Chereads / ALPHA'S SWEET OBSESSION / Chapter 8 - Calculative Little One.

Chapter 8 - Calculative Little One.

Ezriel remained frozen for a moment, he thought he heard wrong, he lowered his eyes and looked at the little lady before him.

"You are hungry... for food?" He peered into her rare golden eyes, and she looked back at him innocently, the look in her eyes was tender, he really hoped that he was not mistaken.

"Mm..." Eve responded quickly, she had no idea of what troubles were going on in the man's head, she pursed her cherry blossom lips and nodded. Her cheekbones were tainted with a tinge of pink as she blushed.

Of course, she was flustered to ask a stranger for a meal but, this was a matter of her stomach and survival. She already took her time to study his style of dressing and from the exquisite gem on his chest alone, she was certain he was a noble and must be able to afford a simple meal.

She blushed in embarrassment and thought it was okay if he was not willing to give her something to eat, she would just look for someone else then.

Ezriel peered into her eyes for a while longer before taking a step back. He cleared his throat and smiled a little. He was afraid that if he frowned in her presence, she might just run away from him. This little mate of his, she was not like those girls he had always heard of.

"Mhm... What would you like to eat, milady?" He asked as he tried to maintain an innocent distance from her and he stuck his hands into his pockets.

Eve pursed her lips when she heard his question, she looked down and chewed the insides of her mouth anxiously. The man smirked as he watched her actions closely. He assumed that she was being hesitant and shy so he offered her a small nod of encouragement. However, little did he know that 'shy' was not a word in Eve's dictionary.

She raised her head and met his eyes, she blinked calculatingly and wet her lips before speaking again.

"I would like to have a whole roasted lamb, apple cake, warm roasted nuts, and cheese... Uhm... I wonder if I can also get soft bread rolls!" she shamelessly voiced out her exact cravings at the moment.

"..."

"You can't give me that much?" Eve uttered and frowned a little when she saw that he was silent. She gave him a quick look over, she already assumed in her mind that he probably was a stingy kind.

"No," a small laugh escaped his throat and he shook his head. "I don't mean that. I was just wondering if a tiny lady like you can eat that much" he explained.

"Oh," Eve voiced and shrugged nonchalantly. It was as though she expected his reaction, a lot of people have wondered that too. Moreover, what she asked for was not considered much.

"So, are you getting me the food?" Eve questioned, her eyes holding a hint of impatience.

Ezriel's brows jerked slightly, and the corner of his lips formed a smooth arch. It was at that moment he realized the lady had nothing else in her eyes but food. She had not even looked at him as a man but as a food dispenser. Her attraction for him was also on the basis of the survival of her stomach. She was a very calculative little one and it made him feel at loss for a second.

However, this only gave him ideas on how to trap her. She loved food? Then, food it was. A satisfying sensation engulfed the alpha's heart and his searing red eyes darkened slightly.

"Dear me! Eve, there you are! I have searched for you for what seemed like an eternity!" Before the alpha could speak back to the little lady, a sharp feminine voice suddenly intruded the peaceful atmosphere. Eve turned around instantly while Ezriel raised his head. Seeing that it was another lady, he was only slightly displeased.

A short brunette approached the man and the lady, she dragged her heavy skirt with her and her eyes held displeasure as she drew closer. Eve saw a vortex of fury and a hint of fear in her best friend's eyes, she revealed a sweet smile.

"Maddy, what brings you here?" Eve uttered sweetly.

Maddy was even more furious after she heard Eve's expression, she rolled her eyes back in exasperation. "Don't you dare be sarcastic with me, lady! Where in the goddess' name were you?!" Maddy pointed.

"Ah? I am standing right in front of you, ain't I? Eve expressed innocently.

"You—!" Even a dumb person would know that Eve was playing dumb at the moment. "I don't want to discuss with you yet, you are coming you me this instant!" Maddy uttered.

Eve wrinkled her brows and pursed her lips, she had just won herself a golden chance to eat an extraordinarily rich person's food, how could she bear to lose it? She could almost hear her stomach grumble with her in agreement not to lose this chance. She looked at her best friend and attempted to speak.

"No, I am not listening to you, lady! Madame Gertrude is just somewhere around and you dare slip away from my sight! I am bringing you back with me!" Maddy voiced.

When she said this, Maddy looked up and met with a pair of cold eyes boring holes into her skull. She was already shorter than most girls so standing beside the man, she appeared even shorter. From her point of view, the man's pair of cold eyes made her believe that he was an angry man. She protectively pulled Eve to her side and hide her behind her.

"Sir, I know my friend must have done something wrong, I apologize on her behalf... I will also bring her away immediately. Many thanks for your kindness sir" Maddy said to Ezriel and gave a small bow.

Considering Eve's attitude which she had been very familiar with since they were young, she guessed her friend must have offended the man whose identity they had no idea of. This was the grand palace of the werewolf king, a person like the man could be anybody and for people of their status, they dare not offend even the least ranked werewolf.

Maddy gave Eve no chance to speak as she grabbed her wrist and pulled her along. Eve did not want to leave, she turned her head and looked at Ezriel but Maddy directly blocked her view, she could only grit her teeth.

What a sad loss of food... she sighed and licked her lips. Her mouth drooled each time she thought about the food she missed. She could only glare at her best friend in bitterness.

However, she was not foolish to not know that Maddy was only trying to protect her. Even if Maddy never came, she already planned to escape from the man as soon as possible, of course, that would be when she was through with eating.

After all, she had long heard the rumors that nowhere was safe in the palace!
