Synopsis

Chapter 1 - Introduction: Sweet Obsession.

The scourging sun descended on the capital city of Aremeia Kingdom from the sky above. It was a really hot afternoon that day, the fiery yellow hot ball in the sky furiously scalded the skin of the traders in the big open market. However, the sun In its burning fury had not stopped the buyers from seriously haggling and the vendors from reaching out to more customers.

A few upper-class ladies managed to have prepared their parasols to shield themselves from the hot sun while they made exchanges with the merchants who sold fine perfumes and jewelry that were imported from the east.

At one corner, an ordinary-looking carriage stood, a person popped his head out of the carriage, and watched for a second or two before sticking his head back. He turned to face the man sitting in his opposite direction like a statue from thousands of years ago.

"You ain't thinking of finding your mate in a place like this, are you?" the person questioned, his face twitching as he struggled to conceal his anger.

"Can't I?" the other man breathed out a two-worded question, his tone was lazy, both disdainful and arrogant at the same time.

"Of course, you can't!" the young man enunciated, one look from the man sitting opposite him caused him to school his expression immediately. He lowered his gaze and stubbornly opened his mouth again. "Your majesty, I understand you have been looking for your mate for hundreds of years now. But, my king, your mate should be among princess and noble ladies not in a market! Moreover, we have waited here for hours and are yet to find anyone. I suggest we put an end to the search and return. My king, you must remember that you shouldn't stay away from the palace for so long. Recently, the rebel tropes from Riverlain had become unscrupulous and must be attended to with urgency!"

In the entire Kingdom, only the alpha king's beloved little brother and advisor, Delta Dominik had the guts to confront the tyrannical king. Alpha Ezriel was not only known for his ruthlessness across the kingdom, but he was also highly favored by the goddess making him the strongest, most powerful, and most lethal beast ever mentioned in history.

When he was younger, he conquered several great empires and defeated their alpha, he forcefully subjected the werewolves of the different packs to become a member of his kingdom ruling them by fear and superior prowess. Over the centuries, the alpha accumulated wealth and prestige from other kingdoms, species, and other races but he never found his mate and wanted one badly.

Alpha Ezriel glanced at his Delta, the young man looked at him with wishful eyes hoping they could leave the place as soon as possible. Delta Dominik felt discomfort from the torrid heat of the afternoon. He cocked his brows and opened his mouth to calmly ask,

"Shall we leave now, my king?"

Ezriel was unperturbed by the atmosphere, he cast one last look outside the carriage and tapped his fingers on his slightly, "go ahead" he muttered.

Delta Dominik heaved a breath of relief, he patted the head of the carriage signaling to the coachman to make his move. The coachman pulled on the reins, tugging the horses to rush forward.

Just then, as the carriage was about to vanish into the streets, Ezriel raised his head abruptly, he felt a stubborn jolt and movement caused by his wolf. It was a kind of flip filled with excitement that he had never experienced before. His eyes narrowed into slits and his nose flared, his senses became alert.

A peculiar tangerine-flavored scent that seemed to be messed with local spices and dust wafted into his nostrils. The alluring fragrance caused his mind to be momentarily messed. He shot his eyes outside the carriage and looked around but, when he tried to trace the direction of the smell, it disappeared.

The sweet smell was replaced by the distinct mix of food, vegetables, and people. He sat back, perhaps, he was mistaken just now.

...

A young girl of about six years old watched the market scene from a corner, she took cover under the buns stall and quickly slipped a flavored bun into her mouth causing her cheeks to puff out.

Her golden eyes twinkled like the million galaxies that accompanied the moon as she chewed the bun hurriedly. Her lips were glossy and puckered, and despite the hay and dirt sticking out in her braided red hair, she was adorable and had the cuteness of a child, having no idea of the wickedness of the world she was in.

A man stood by her side, his attention was barely on her as his eyes darted back and forth each second and only looked at her a few times. After a while, the man bent down to her height and handed her another bun.

"Take, you must wait here for Papa, do you hear that?" the man said to her.

The little girl offered him a toothy smile before bobbing her head in understanding. She took another oily bun and stuffed it into her mouth. A frown flickered through the man's eyes as he watched the girl wolfishly devouring the food. He was not worried about her, he just wondered if only she could channel her gluttonous energy into something else like making her wolf appear but it could never happen.

He drew in a short breath and stood up, mentally preparing himself for the next event. "Papa will come back for you soon, I have to find a person so no matter what don't leave this place, do you hear me?" he voiced.

"Okay, Papa" she answered and nodded. Seeing the man turn around and walk away from her, she transferred her buns to one hand and waved her free hand. "Come back soon, Papa!" she yelled after him like an endearing little child. Others could not help but stop to look at the child whose squeaky voice attracted their attention. They smiled and thought, such a loveable little girl.

The man stopped and tilted his body slightly, his face curled up and he could only forcefully return her smile. He hummed and nodded, then he waved at her before he began rushing away unable to face the child any longer.

What could he do with a child like her who had an obsession, only knew how to munch food, and disturbed his poor family with her insatiable appetite? To make things worse, she was wolfless, meaning that she was a useless breed in their wolf community.

How could he have a child like that? She would not bring him power nor prestige but worry.

It would be better to sell her off! The two gold coins the buyer offered could be exchanged for fifty copper coins which could feed his small family for a whole year. He could not be more pleased with the transaction.
