Chapter 11 - Blurred Past

"Sezia," Kate slowly stepped out from behind the tree, her gaze on the report lying on the ground, "Let's prevent another Zone G."

Sezia smiled, "Yeah let's."

"Also.." Kate added, "The van won't blow up, right..? "

"No, it won't." Sezia said, turning to look at the van.

Boom!

A lightning struck the van as the teachers stared dumbfounded.

"The kids!" Kate ran forward, her eyes glowing bright green as she was about to touch the door when Dav quickly raised his hand, pulling her arm away.

Frad, who was no longer hiding behind the tree, had sweat dripping down his forehead as his arm was stretched out.

"The van is a good conductor of metal..." Sezia stepped towards Kate, "Besides, the lightning won't hit the van either." She pointed inside, "See that?"

From the van window, at the other end, they could see a metal rod sticking out of the window, as Otta was sitting in the back seat with her laptop out, and River wiping his forehead.

"They are crazy.." Kate sighed, slowly feeling her arm drop to her side, as she took a few steps back.

"And we should guide them the right way." Sezia said, slowly walking to the back of the van.

She opened up the trunk and heard the keyboard clicking away.

She grabbed two sticks and closed them.

"Catch!" She threw it at Frad, walking towards Kate. She opened up a mini forcefield.

"Why open an umbrella?" Kate asked as Frad opened his umbrella.

"Cause.." Sezia raised a finger, "Cause.."

"Cause?.." Dav slowly walked towards Frad.

"Alright my ability isn't the most timing accurate-." Before she could finish her words, water started dripping onto the ground, "Cause rain!" She acted as if the awkward moment didn't happen, "Predicted it!" She hopped away.

"Hey!" Kate followed, making sure she's still under the umbrella.

"I don't like the rain.." Dav softly commented as Frad wrapped his arm around Dav's shoulder.

"I'm here, you don't have to be afraid." He softly whispered as Dav's head leaned on Frad's neck.

"Gay!!" Sezia shouted, pointing towards the two.

"You didn't know they were a couple?" Kate asked as she tried catching her breath.

"Ah.. now that took away the fun since it's official.." Sezia mumbled, as her umbrella was snatched away, "Hey!"

"Your not trusted with that anymore." Kate grumbled, slowly walking away from her, "Your sense of humour is weird too."

"Your not trusted with that.." Sezia mimicked what Kate said, as she slowly followed, "Your sense of humour is weird.."

They walked away from the couple, going further and ducked under a string that was set.

After a while, Sezia looked up at the rain that was still coming down.

"Kate," She said as she took out a paper, "Here," she said as she was passing a folded piece of paper to her, "I didn't read what was written, because I felt like I shouldn't. I've only saw my face on one of those reports,"

Kate stopped walking as they stopped at where the forest ended.

Beyond them was just a grass field.

Kate took the paper and just kept the paper in her own pocket, "I will keep it safe for you then."

"No, I just feel whatever is written," She looked up at the cloudy sky, "You should know."

"Feel huh? Ain't you always the kind that will use logic?" The wind blew a little, as Sezia sneezed.

She sniffed, putting her hand in her hoodie pocket, "Nah, logic is boring. But I'm used to making logical decisions after being in the army rank for so long."

"Right," Kate asked, "Who is Zero? You said she saved you before?"

"No, I lied. I hate her guts so much, I have no idea why either." She shrugged, "Right, Zone G. Do you even remember anything about it? The before and after? Or even in between? It had only been five years since its collapse, no one got any kind of ptsd?"

That question stunned Kate, as she narrowed her eyes, "Now that you mentioned it..there wasn't even a cry of nightmare when we escaped. But we somehow was able to work together," Her grip tightened, "We just thought it was cause we survived the same thing."

"Where's the files for Zone G?" Ignatius asked while following Lux's back to her office.

The rain outside became stronger and stronger.

"I've got a copy." Lux's footstep hurried as she keyed in her password in a hurry. She opened the door and saw someone inside the room.

The opened window blew, as both of them stared at each other.

"Intruder!" Ignatius quickly ran forward, spreading his palm wide open, as a fire bullet formed.

The intruder quickly turned around, the cloak fluttering with the wind. Holding the hood, they jumped away.

The bullet shot out, only to hit the end of the cloak. He cursed and ran towards the window.

"The files!" Lux turned on the light and saw the computer wracked beyond repair.

"Isn't it in the system?" Ignatius asked as he looked out, trying to spot the Intruder.

"No, I got it by chance and took it to copy and print it.." Lux's voice became softer towards the end.

"Another accident!" His arm smashed onto the window frame, "Someone's scheming something, and it's getting under my skin."

Fire slowly escaped from his hand, only for it to be extinguished by the rain water.

He lowered his head as his eyes glowed orange, "Lux," He gripped the window frame, "Gather the helpers given to us."

He pushed himself away from the window, "Go back to eating dirt, Lux. The smoke has clouded your brain." He stomped off.

Lux muttered to herself, "His only chain is now gone, but it's for the best." She turned to look at the open window.

"The city needs him more than ever now. Even if I hate the old him."
