Chereads / Jewels of the Heart / Chapter 5 - Words Unspoken

Chapter 5 - Words Unspoken

The next morning Hammun enters the medicinal gardens and motions for Musinm to give him and his fiancee space. He finished up his chat with his brother that night, and left with the moon high in the sky. Now heading to the pergola, dawn is breaking through the dark sky. Not bright enough the pergola is still littered with candle light, illuminating Hestia with a beautiful glow. As he walks towards her he can see that she is grinding up yellow powder, her body moving with each turn she makes in the pestle bowl. Reaching her he taps her left shoulder and leans on the table at her right.

Turning and seeing no one Hestia makes an expression of a cat being interrupted and turns back to the curcumin. Jumping in surprise at the tall man beside her, "Hammun!" she whines. "I have asked you not to scare me like this anymore." her eyes scan the garden and feels betrayal when she see Musinm, back towards her guarding the pergola.

The political smile he keeps morphs into a true one, "It is so early, but I knew you would be here. You are making tea?" seeing a glass of milk he lifts it to smell, "Why coconut milk?"

Taking the milk from his hands she places it back in the same spot, "Hammun I am focusing, do not mix up the ingredients." she gives him a pleading look.

Grinning Hammun playfully slides the milk to the left to see if Hestia will notice. He closes his eyes to hold his laughter when she moves it back to the original position. Lifting a small bowl of a soft brown powder to sniff, "Ginger?"

Taking it from his hands, 'Yes ginger, and before you touch other things, she points to the pestle and mortar "curcumin," pointing at the bowl he touched before, "ginger," her pinky points to a small bowl, "cinnamon, and," pointing at two small jars, "nutmeg and honey." she exasperates and pulls on Hammun's arm when he goes to pick something up. "I told you everything, must you touch them?"

"I will put it back." his response is met with a blank stare, "please kitty."

Pouting, "I am not a kitty." she grumbles. "You never put them back in the proper place. Every time I make anything with you I always make mistakes because you switch the ingredients around."

Hammun grins unbothered by Hestia's complaints, her pout makes it impossible for his smile to falter. "This time I shall help you." He unties his leather vambraces, tosses them at the corner of the table and rolls up his sleeves. "It is for my mother, of course I shall help."

Huffing, "I am already finished." Hestia grumbles.

Resting one arm on the table Hammun leans down so his mouth is level with Hestia's ears, "Next time then." he replies hopefully.

Moving her shoulder up to protect her ear, "Hammun," she calls softly. "You do this every time." her hand rubs her ear, "It is distracting." she shudders.

Rising to his full height, "That is precisely why I do it. The repetition will help you." he says like he is in deep thought, his innocent expression with twinkling eyes. "If I continue to do this you will not be so easily distracted in the future." Leaning on the table, "You are welcome." His eyes stay on Hestia as she mixes the ingredients into a sauce pan. "I also love seeing you so focused."

Whisking everything in the pan, "Hammun we are not supposed to interact like this. The palace has rules. I may not know all of them, but interacting like this in public is surely one." she juts her chin.

Standing behind her, he moves her hair off her shoulder, "I thought you did not like the palace rules?"

"It does not matter if I like them. I must learn them. I cannot run freely like a child forever. I need to focus on being a princess, which means you and I should have some distance." she says with a sudden maturity.

Chuckling softly, "Distance? I have been away from you all day." his hands falls to her side to tap the table, "The moon is already fading from the sky."

"Either way, you and I should focus on our positions." she says.

Stepping back to stand at her side, "I know my place Hestia. I focus well. Every moment I spend away from you I am focusing and being the prince." he allows his fingers to brush against Hestia's. "Why in private must I continue to be so?"

Hestia bites her lip not sure how to respond.

"Why do you ask for distance from your fiance? Have I disappointed you?" Then his eyes soften and a sly smile creeps onto his face.

"No." Hestia say immediately, "Whatever you just thought is not correct." The milk simmers and her eyes go back to the pan.

Chuckling, "Have you learned of your feelings for me, and now you wish to have distance?" Crossing his arms, "You are afraid of what you will do now that your heart beats faster at the thought of me?" he confidently tells her.

Eyes widening she coughs. Dropping her head to focus on the pan, "Because of what you think you are blind to what you see."

Cheesing, "Am I Hestia. My Princess Hestia, am I incorrect in my thinking? Rarely am I ever wrong." he teases.

"Hammun!" Hestia can feel her face heating up, "must you be so distracting today?" His bright smile makes her grumble even more, "Who likes who? Whose heart is beating for who? My heart beats because it is supposed to."

Laughing, "Alright, you wish for distance. How far shall I stand?" he backs up 5 paces, "Is here satisfactory?"

Pouring the milk from the pan into a pitcher, "I just think that we need to develop a more proper relationship." she tells him feeling comfortable speaking now that he is no longer standing next to her.

"Proper?"

"We should follow the rules more. Be an exemplary couple, and that can help the peace between kingdoms." she says shyly.

The humor fades from Hammun's eyes, "Hestia you do not need to stress about these matters. I will protect your kingdom, you need not fill your mind with worry."

"Life is not always peaceful. Even birds find themselves flying through storms. If you are the only one with wings fighting for my kingdom in court," setting the pitcher down, "it is my kingdom. I must mature myself to protect it. Today's matters made me think, if something happens, the peace may not stay the same. If we keep things the way they are, would that not harm us instead of aid us?"

Hammun holds back his response. It is precisely because the princess of the Nevalvn kingdom is so disconnected from political affairs that the treaties between the nations are not impossible. If Hestia starts to move and act as a true princess it could create fear and an imbalance of power.

"Sometimes I wonder-" closing the milk Hestia begins to put away the powders and bowls on the table.

"Wonder what?" Hammun asks, walking forward to help her.

"If I moved the way Aaleyah does, would that aid my kingdom more?" Hestia voices her thoughts. "The aura she has, people follow her, she is a natural leader, and walks with something I cannot name. But with one look she could have people bow for her." Hestia bites her lip. "That kind of power could help my kingdom. If I could learn to move the way she does then maybe-"

"No." Hammun places a hand atop of hers, "You are powerful the way you are. The Hestia you are today helps your kingdom in many ways. You are a breath of fresh air, officials know they can trust you. You hide nothing and that is a powerful thing." Hammun tells her. "My sister Aaleyah has a different air around her. You need not mimic it. Her power stems from so much pain. She is unreadable, a book of poems with stanzas that have been blotted out. Her nature is hidden underneath pain, you can admire her, but never attempt to emulate her."

Turning to face him with angry eyes, "Are you saying I do not know pain?" she accuses.

"Not at all." Hammun tells her calmly, not rising to meet the anger in her tone. "The only person you need to be is you. Do not attempt to fly with another's wings.

Crossing her arms, "Perhaps I am too young. I have also not been a princess for long. I came from a noble family, but I was training to be a pharmacist, to study how to make medicine. Now I suddenly have a fiance, and power I am unable to use. A mother I desperately wish to help. If everyone in the palace uses their power, then maybe the queen would not have been harmed." Rubbing her chest, "I should learn to make people fear my kingdom, then they will know this kingdom has a strong ally."

Opening his arms towards her, "If it brings you comfort I can arrange a tutor for you to learn the rules of the palace." Hestia steps into his arms just enough for his hands to rest on her shoulders, "However, there is nothing you need to radiate but your true self when in front of me. I can teach you horse riding, hosting, and how to speak to the people. Just keep in mind that the people of the Nevalvn kingdom chose you for a reason. If you change from your authentic self it may cause them worry." he tells her hoping she will hear his words and stay away from the political paths.

Smiling, "The Hestia I am now, is it really acceptable?"

"Yes." he answers with such conviction that Hestia can not help but smile. "Knowing I will be married to you brings me joy. If you change into a different person then I would not know the woman I am to marry. Knowing I have you, the you in front of me. The you who is radiant brings me all the joy I need to do my job and protect the kingdoms." he tells her hoping to erase her insecurities.

Hestia thinks back on her interaction with Aaleyah today. Aaleyah's face was calm, it was as if she was unaffected by what was happening. She did not seem scared, or worried. Could Hestia really act like that? Shaking her head, her emotions are too strong for her to hold back. Aaleyah is the high princess for a reason, she seems to have experience, and far more knowledge of her position. It makes sense for people to bow to her. Hestia just needs to find ways for it to make sense for people to bow to her as well.

Aware of the continuous thoughts Hestia must be having in her mind, "It is too early for you to hold so much in those beautiful eyes of yours. Allow your heart to lead you, it has done an exemplary job so far. Ignore your brain and come to breakfast with me." Taking the milk she just finished making, "We can give this to mother." Offering her one hand, "Let's get you changed and ready for the day?" Speaking louder, "Musinm, you are relieved, get some sleep." He tells him he has another guard stationed outside the gardens.

Filling her cheeks with air she scans the now clean table. She spent the entire night, pouring her energy into making tea to aid the queen to sleep through the night. Tea to help with pain. And now, milk to help with healing, but also to give the queen a break from tea. Feeling content with all she has made she places her hand in his, "Hammun?"

Hammun hums and turns his head to look at her.

"More than just my role as a princess," she fidgets with the jewels on her dress, "are you satisfied with my role as your fiancee?" she asks, her voice a whisper. She is not very affectionate with him. It has been 7 Blue moons since she came to the capitol. She is aware that their friendship should morph into something else.

"My sweet kitten. You do a great job, it is not a job you can fail at."

She squeezes her hand, but remembering Hammun is holding it she releases quickly, "But we are not very uhm, well," she swallows.

"The life of a royal can be a scary path, it is beautiful to shine in the sky with another star. That fact that we get along is perfect enough for me. I am satisfied with being your friend." her comforts.

Hestia smiles and hugs him, hiding her face in his chest.

Chuckling, "I thought you wished for distance?" he teases, laughing when she makes him move away. Keeping her hand in his, milk in the other, he takes her out the gardens to her chambers to change for breakfast.

When Saan wakes up the next morning there is only the blanket in his arms. Turning his head he looks out the balcony towards the sunlight, and sounds of the birds. Hearing movement behind him he turns expecting to see Aaleyah.

Dreaa, one of Aaleyah's servants bows, "High Prince Saan, I am ordered to come wake you." she says nervously. She has never woken the high prince before and her eyes stay glued to the floor and refuses to allow herself to him in his sleepwear.

Rising from the bed, "Where is the high princess?"

Stepping around the corner is Aaleyah dressed in a soft red gown, her hair not yet done, simply clipped back with a silver and red hair comb. Some hair strands falling down her back, in her hand is a bundle of clothes draped over her arm. "Good morning, I retrieved your garments for you." she tells him with a warm smile.

Standing from the bed he walks to her and checks her eyes. His hand on her cheek to have her look up at him. The ladies all turn away. "Your eyes are swollen" he says gently massaging the space under her eyes.

Clearing her throat, "It is nothing." Taking his hand from her face she gives him his clothes. "I had a bath drawn for you. You can bathe and get dressed for breakfast." noticing his reluctance to move, "There is nothing to worry about. I will not worry you again." she vows.

Pulling her close he kisses her forehead before walking towards the bath.

Watching him walk off Aaleyah gathers the items she will need when he comes out. Setting the comb on the table in the main room, she lifts his crown from the table by her bed and carries it carefully to the main room.

Leelin comes in with a tray of flower pouches, lifting each one up Aaleyah smells them carefully, before choosing one scent to tie into his clothes. Leelin sneaks glances at her lady, "High princess, permission to speak?"

Aaleyah pauses her movements to focus on Leelin. Leelin is her senior by 2 Red moon, the wrinkles around her beautiful brown eyes from her life of smiles have already begun to appear on her face. It is said that she used to attend academy with her father and they studied together. When the Aljehni's fell, Leelin gave up her position as a scholar, refusing to condemn her friends. By the time the king had changed, Leelin was offered her position again but news had traveled of Aaleyah's return. When Aaleyah came to the palace it was Leelin who volunteered to drop her status and become her servant. No longer being a scholar, she chose to stay by Aaleyah's side instead.

 "No need for formalities. Speak."

Leelin kneels on the ground, "High Princess Aaleyah,-'

Reaching her arms out to pull her up, Aaleyah sighs when Leelin refuses to rise.

"The world is filled with great evils, even honey can have a sting, so if you find someone who will take the stings with you, it is vital to hold on."

"Please do not speak on the floor like this, rise." Aaleyah's urges do not work so she drops to her knees, "What else is it you wish to tell me?"

"High princess, you must never kneel to me." Leelin shakes her head knowing of Aaleyah's stubbornness, "this humble one wishes to advise you to hold on to the ones who care for you. Please do not cry alone."

Aaleyah's eyes dart to the direction of the bath. "In this life, learning to do things alone is a vital lesson." Extending her hand she assists Leelin to her feet and they stand together. "I understand your words, but one must not forget that some die from bee stings, while others only feel pain. Why risk the death of another? A few stings will not harm me for too long."

Leelin keeps her brown eyes on the floor refusing to allow her high princess to see them. To see the remorse, to see the pity. Alas, she knows her place.

The women go back to picking out clothing, and when Saan's clothes are chosen, Aaleyah sits at the vanity and allows Leelin to comb her hair. Leaving dark strands to frame Aaleyah's small face, the top of her hair is braided back. Twirling it into a bun a red moon clip sliding through the bun to leave it tied up. 4 thin braids fall onto the rest of her hair and the crown is placed on her head.

Leelin spares a glance at the blue colored garments Aaleyah picked out for Saan, "Shall I fetch the blue garment to go over your dress?"

Putting each cuff onto her upper arms, "Yes thank you Leelin." picking up a bracelet she slides the first part onto her finger before fastening the rest around her wrist.

Leelin rushes off and Saan returns his hair dripping water from the bath.

Picking up a cloth Aaleyah rises and motions for him to sit in the seat she was in. "If you keep your hair wet like this you will catch a cold."

Closing his eyes as Aaleyah dries his hair, "The sun will dry it, you need not worry."

Aaleyah hums and combs through his hair, avoiding Saan's gaze in the mirror.

"Aaleyah will you speak to me now?" he asks gently.

Her hand does not falter as she begins braiding Saan's hair. "One would not dare ignore the high prince."

"Last night," Saan starts and he catches the way her hand hovers in the air before continuing to braid. He watches the deep breath she takes and counts to 2 when Aaleyah closes her eyes. Her way of maintaining control of her emotions. The vulnerability of last night, the closeness she allowed, it is not something he will experience again anytime soon. If he forces her to speak she will distance herself. In the minute time, the time it takes 2 inhales and exhales of breath, "This morning I will give you some honey water, I will also need your help today. We will pay a visit to my mother, if you have other schedules, may I selfishly ask that you stay by my side instead?" catching her eyes in the mirror, "I should apologize, but I do not wish to be alone." he tells her.

Finishing his hair, "I will not leave your side."

Saan holds back a smile and rises from his seat. Picking up the garments he scans Aaleyah's red dress and then looks back at his blue clothes. Before he can open his mouth Leelin returns holding a blue outer robe.

Saan nods, "Leelin, are you well?"

Leelin bows and places the blue robe into his open hands, "This humble servant is well, thank you."

Saan motions for Aaleyah to turn around so he can place the robe on.

Standing motionless, "This subject shall not trouble the high prince, allow one to use their own arms."

Raising a brow, "Is it not an honor to have the high prince help? Will you leave your high prince waiting?"

Leelin is still in the room, it will be rude to disobey the high prince's orders. Thus Aaleyah slowly turns around and allows Saan to help her wear the robe, her hands sliding through the big silk sleeves. When it is on he twirls her around and fixes her hair.

Aaleyah's eyes connect with Leelin and Leelin bows before exiting the chambers.

Once she is gone Aaleyah takes a step back.

"Being so far from me, does this mean I will have to dress myself?" Saan asks, keeping his smirk in his heart.

Picking up the black inner robe she helps Saan dress, fastening the ties at his sides. Saan stands obediently, arms spread out happily allowing Aaleyah to dress him piece by piece.

Finishing up she places the outer blue robe on and helps him tie it with the blue belt.

When they are both ready to depart Saan extends his hand towards Aaleyah, and seeing her hesitate to take it, "You promised to stay by my side today." he says with a sad look.

Staring at his outstretched hand, "Does the high prince believe I will run away?"

"Absolutely." Saan says without hesitation.

Taking a step back Aaleyah rubs her chin, "This humble subject has promised to stay by your side. The promise will not be broken."

Annoyed at the name she has given herself, "if you claim to be a subject then you shall follow all of your high prince's orders, no?" he asks.

The only way for Aaleyah to deny taking his hand would be for her to stop calling herself a subject, which is precisely what Saan wants. However if she does not do so she will have to take Saan's hand, which is no problem for Saan.

Placing her hand in his, she follows him out of the chamber.

Saan smiles, but it slowly turns sad. When they were young he was never able to beat Aaleyah in the battle of words. The one who always won what they wanted was her.

"Leyah," young prince Saan sighed and rubbed his head. His hair was a mess, the braid had come apart, the ribbon on the end tying it together had failed at its job. "I won, you said the winner has to carry the other person on their back." he crossed his arms and gave his most serious glare at Aaleyah. Tilting his head, "Turn around." he attempted to order. He was excited, it wasn't often that he beat Aaleyah in horse racing.

Little Aaleyah cleared her throat and kicked at a small pebble on the dirt path. "Saan," she whined, crossing her arms behind her back, "I think it is a tie." nodding to herself, "You know it as well don't you?" she spoke as if she was teaching a child. You know what you have done wrong, and you are aware of how to fix the problem. Her convincing tone of voice was urging Saan to do the right thing and concede defeat to carry her on his back.

But she lost.

"Besides." she added pointing a finger as if she just realized something, "We arrived to the stables at the same time." she lied.

Saan fidgeted with the cuff of his sleeve, "Leyah you are not being fair. My horse was the fastest. It was not a tie at all. I beat you, I even dismounted the horse before you." Thinking more he smirked, "The only thing that we did at the same time was look at each other when it was all over. The look of a victor and a loser." Saan humphed.

Aaleyah filled her cheeks with air and slowly exhaled, "Herom said that the royals horse breed is meant to be much faster." She shrugged her shoulders, "My Arabian will always be unable to race against such European horse breeds." She brushed her hair back into her bun, but the yellow hair pin was loose from all the riding. That and the strand she just moved got blown back into her face from the wind.

Raising his head, "Sounds to me like you admit to losing." Saan scoffed.

Fixing the sleeves of her outer garments, "How dreadful to think that the royal family of the capital kingdom unfairly races against a poor girl who loves to ride horses." she said, her voice filled with disappointment.

Saan rolled his eyes, "The Aljehni family is poor now? I had no idea." he laughed sarcastically, "I did not cheat, but there is no point continuing this conversation. Besides you made no complaints about me using a Thoroughbred horse before. Now that you lost you suddenly have grievances."

Aaleyah bowed, "Prince Saan please judge favorably over this situation. Despite my horse breed this humble subject kept up with you and strived to do their best. Should they be punished for the breed of their horse?" she asked, appalled.

Saan shook his head feeling cheated, "How humble is the subject if she requires I carry her?" knelt on the ground before her, "Hop on, let's go eat."

Aaleyah smiled victoriously and fixed the belt at her waist, and once she was ready she hopped on his back having no fear of him dropping her.

Saan staggered forward from the sudden weight, his arms immediately gripping her legs around his waist, "Leyah! I have no desire to see the royal physician anymore. The last time he made me drink terrible medicine. Leave my back unscathed please." He felt her arms cross over his chest as she clung to him and he couldn't hold back his slight smile.

"My Akhal-Teke!" she cheered, "go!" She thrust her hand in the air cheering as Saan began moving. "Prince Saan, my winning steed, be sure not to drop me or I am telling my brother." she threatened.

Feeling slighted, "When have I ever dropped you?" he turned his head to face her, her hair tickling as it flew past his cheeks.

Her bright golden eyes shined, "Never it is good to keep it this way." then she kissed him on the cheek, "Go your majesty to the palace! Fast like how you did during the race."

Saan started to jog back, "Now you admit I won."

His response only got excited giggling in return.

Saan exits the chambers with Aaleyah's hand closely in his. "Are you able to have breakfast with the queen today? Or shall we eat alone?" he asks as they walk at a slow pace down the hall.

Aware of her inability to visit the queen last night, now that her emotions are at a calmer state she does wish to see her. She always wanted to see the queen, but the fears haunt her.

As if he can read her mind, "I stand by what I said," leaning close to whisper in her ear, "we have military for a reason, you need not feel responsible, or at fault."

Smiling softly at his words, "Is her majesty able to attend breakfast?"

"We will eat in her chambers, she will not need to move too far." he squeezes her hand. "She asked for you, come and visit your mother with me."

Her heart warms at his words, nodding, "We can warm her some honey water." Thinking more, "Actually Princess Hestia will have something that will soothe the queen."

Laughing, "Hammun spoke of going to visit her in the gardens after we parted last night. She may have spent the entire night concocting something."

The conversation lulls and they both silently continue walking.

"Is it," he starts catching Aaleyah's attention, "that you do not wish to see her?"

Halting her breaths, "Has the king given more orders?"

"In regards to yesterday?" Saan sees her fervent nod, "There are no further orders that can be given." He motions for Helan and the other guards to give them more space. "Aaleyah, there is nothing I want more than for those I love to be out of danger. No one will gamble with your life, no one will think to do so," his eyes narrow, "not even you. Do not fear anything."

Searching his eyes she cannot detect any nervousness. What he has said he truly believes, there is no trace of weakness. These are not words he says to comfort her in the moment, but he will stand by them; and knowing this Aaleyah is not sure if she feels better or worse. "This subject has been selfish thinking only of herself. She humbly apologizes, the high prince must be given undivided attention and the utmost respect and honesty. This subject accepts punishment for not doing so."

Saan seems somewhat angry at her words. His hand tightens into a fist, then seconds later he calmly smiles at her. His eyes dark, the anger still not dissipated.

"Before the queen you will refer to yourself as Aaleyah, am I understood?" he tells her with a slight scrowl.

Hestia follows Hammun in annoyance, "I said I would carry it." She reaches for the tray in Hammun's hands but he moves it away, "return it to me."

The young couple makes their way to the queen's chambers. Hestia had made the drinks for everyone to avoid the queen being the only one. The tray that Hammun stole from her carried warm servings of golden milk. A jade tea pot of tea also sat at the corner of the tray.

Hammun smirks, "Save your strength for later, you do not need to carry it." He side steps her again when she attempts to grab the tray, "Be careful I may drop it while avoiding you." he teases.

"Then stop avoiding me." she quips back.

"What will my mother say?" Hammun uses his elbow to hold Hestia back from him while quoting his mother, "Is this the son I raised? Is this the prince of the kingdom? How can you allow your wife to lift a finger in front of you?" He turns to face Hestia and she almost bumps into the tray, "Is your desire for me to get into trouble? The queen mother is sick, a scare is not good for health."

Hestia's response is halted as Aaleyah and Saan come from the other corridor. Helan behind them with 2 guards.

Hestia bows to Saan and Aaleyah, "Good morning."

"Have you slept Princess Hestia?" Saan asks.

Hammun smirks and makes eye contact with Aaleyah; he motions for her to come stand next to him.

Hestia, happy to see Saan and Aaleyah, "That is not an important matter to discuss." pouting her bottom lip, "You must help me, Hammun refuses to listen to me." she complains and walks in stride with Saan.

Saan smiles, "How has my brother given you grievances so early?"

When Aaleyah does not move from Saan's side Hammun goes to her.

Pointing at the tray in Hammun's hand, "He stole my tray." Hestia whines. "I worked all night to get things ready and now that I am finally finished he stole it from me." she accuses.

The guards step back saying nothing. When it comes to Hestia the guards are used to this atmosphere she creates.

Saan glances at the tray in his brother's hand, "Ah you made golden milk? Is this for everyone?" he asks, ignoring the point of Hestia's words.

Hammun nods, "Yes, and it smells heavenly. I tried some earlier, it is very good."

"I quite enjoy Hestia's moon milk." Saan says recalling the rich drink Hestia had made for him in the past.

Hammun's eyes brighten, "Yes, I have almost forgotten that."

Hestia huffs and peers around Saan at Aaleyah, "They are just ignoring me. You understand me right?" she asks Aaleyah with pleading eyes.

Hammun who is walking at Aaleyah's side, "Sister, please tell Hestia I am only being helpful." he asks her in a moving tone.

"We are almost there." Aaleyah says ignoring their playful argument.

Sure enough the group of four have arrived at the entrance.

Hestia grumbles but focuses on fixing her dress that does not need fixing. Her hands smoothing the collar, and organizing the jewels and clips. Her fingers moving towards her neck to situate the necklace just right.

Hammun motions for the guards to open the door, "Hestia will you walk in first?" he asks knowing she will want to tell the queen that the tray he is holding is hers and not his.

Hestia leaves Saan's side to rush in without a moment's notice. Hammun smiles softly and walks after her.

Saan keeps a gentle but tight hold on Aaleyah's hand, he motions for Helan to follow inside and they walk in as well. Helan closes the door behind them and stands guard inside.

Inside Hestia must have been granted power from the Simurgh to already be midstory. "-then I also brewed you tea that will help with the pain and help you sleep. Rest is very important to the healing process." She picks up chalice and pours the golden milk inside. "Just drink a bit, do not push yourself."

Hammun places the tray on the table and kisses his mother on the cheek.

The queen smiles, "How lovely," her words are spoken in a breath to avoid the pain in her side, "as always I am forever grateful to you Hestia."

Hestia beams.

Saan pulls out a chair for Aaleyah to sit but Aaleyah refuses and bows in front of the queen.

Reaching her hand out, "Child Aaleyah come." she beckons and Aaleyah walks towards her and kneels at her feet.

Queen Anahita pats Aaleyah's head. "I have caused you worry, allow me to see your eyes." The queen studies Aaleyah's face, "You did not sleep well."

"This," she hesitates and her eyes flicker towards Saan, "one apologizes for not seeing you." she finally says.

Squeezing Aaleyah's hand she aids her to get off the floor and tilts her head to the chair next to her at the round table; Saan quickly pulls it out for Aaleyah to sit.

The queen never releases Aaleyah's hand, "You must have been so scared." she forces herself to say. Ignoring the pain in her side she moves her other hand to squeeze Aaleyah's shoulder. "You have been so brave, I thank you for retrieving the king."

"You needed him." is Aaleyah's reply.

Hestia is silent still holding the cup of warm liquid in her hand not sure if she should interrupt or not.

Saan takes a seat next to Aaleyah, "She came to see you yesterday mother, but you were sleeping and she did not wish to wake you."

The queen nods, "Yes, I see," her eyes study Aaleyah's golden ones, "Yesterday must have been strenuous for you." she gravely says, her eyes watering as she takes in Aaleyah's tired state.

Squeezing Aaleyah's hand, "You be sure to eat well, after you go back and rest. We do not need two women in the family to be unwell."

Hestia takes that moment to place the cup in front of the queen, and Hammun hands her the second cup to place in front of Aaleyah.

"If you are also unwell you can come see me, I will make you something to help you rest." Hestia worriedly says.

Aaleyah shakes her head.

"Yes, that would be a great help. Please make something to help Aaleyah have a dreamless sleep." Saan tells Hestia, and smiles when she nods in agreement, promising to do so.

In an attempt to return the attention to the queen instead of her, "Your majesty, my apologies for causing you to worry. Please think of nothing but recovering. If there is anything that can be done this su- one promises to do so." Aaleyah corrects herself from saying subject when she hears Saan cough. "The kingdom as well as your family needs their queen to recover." Aaleyah replaces her hand with the cup, "please drink."

"Yes I agree. Mother need not worry there is no one in this room that will not defend their family." Hammun vows.

Saan silently taps for Aaleyah to sit comfortably in her seat and to drink the milk as well. "Mother, shall fill her mind with nothing more than recovering. I will worry about Aaleyah." he vows.

Aaleyah turns her head, and from the corner of her eye sees Helan move to open the door,

"The King has arrived."

Everyone sans the queen rises to greet the king.

Stepping into the chambers the king's hair is braided into 7 braids at the top of his head tied up in a silver hair clip. The rest of his black silk hair falls down his strong back. His black jacket is embroidered with intricate symbols and designs to depict longevity and strength; it is tied at his waist with a dark blue belt. His black cuffs tie his sleeves down giving him a smooth fit.

He steps into the chambers and walks through the room straight to the queen, "Anahita," he breathes her name and kisses her forehead, having all present look away from the display of affection. "How are you this morning?" he asks while waving his hand to notify everyone to sit back down.

The queen smiles and Hammun vacates his seat so his father can sit next to her.

Sliding into the seat the King smiles at the drink in his wife's hand. "This is good, it will help you sleep. How much have you had?"

Grinning, "I have only just gotten it, not even a sip has been taken." she tells him with amusement.

Aaleyah has still not taken her seat and it is only due to Saan taking her elbow and leading her to her seat that her body moves.

Sitting in her seat she fidgets with her hands under the table.

"I feel lovely knowing that the entire family can sit at a breakfast table together." The queen looks at all of her children around the table with a loving smile.

Placing his hand in Aaleyah's so she can play with his ring, "Mother I came to eat with you last week. We ate and I let you tell me all about the flowers in the garden that are in bloom. I listened to every word with no complaint." Saan says jokingly.

Hestia bounces excitedly when the servants come to set the table with more fruits and breads. "It has been some time since we all ate together. The last time was before your marriage to Aaleyah." she says picking up the queen's plate to give her some fruit.

Aaleyah freezes and looks up from Saan's ring to see everyone's eyes. "My apologies for not having more of a presence in the family meals." she calmly says, releasing Saan's hand but his fingers wrap around her tightly.

"There is no need to apologize." Saan tells her, then turning to Hestia, "If we eat a meal with you one may come to understand the phrase an ocean needs no more water." he jokes.

The queen nods her head, "Your apology is not necessary Aaleyah. A family meal is not just your responsibility, my sons have filled their lives with other engagements."

Hammun finishes a swing of his drink, "I would not say working in court is an engagement that I am choosing over meals." scratching his nose, "If I could make the meeting shorter I would, but with every word there are 2 statements to decipher."

The king nods, "But enough of that, let us enjoy our meal."

The conversation stills and everyone picks up their utensils to eat.

Hammun stares at his brother, noticing him using his right hand to eat. His eyes widening slightly in confusion, then he chuckles to himself and discreetly fixes his pant leg so he can look under the table. Sure enough Saan is holding Aaleyah's hand.

It is not as if Saan and Aaleyah are not affectionate with one another, but Aaleyah today seems very rigid. His brother does not hold her hand lightly and lovingly, but he holds her hand as if he is pulling her to safety. Tightly, and with no signs of letting go.

Hammun places a date on Aaleyah's plate, "Have some Aaleyah, they are sweeter this season." He watches how to see if she will accept.

Nodding, Aaleyah lifts her fork and pauses.

To eat a date one must use both hands, one to bite, and one to remove the pit.

Saan takes the date from Aaleyah's plate and bites into it. Once he can see the pit he pulls it out with his teeth. Tossing the pit on his plate he puts the rest of the date back on Aaleyah's plate. "Hestia today I hear you will make wine?"

Hammun splits his attention to await Hestia's reply.

Finishing her bite of toast, "Yes, we will be picking out the grapes and smashing them today. The wine we created last moon was not sweet enough." she puts some fruit on Hammun's plate, "I will be sure to bring Musinm so you do not worry."

Hammun pushes his food around, "I was actually hoping to come with you." he looks at his father as he speaks.

"You do not wish to come to court today." King Hammaan chews his food. "Today will be a strenuous day in court. If you are not there it may be difficult to avoid giving Aaleyah her punishment for interrupting yesterday." he calmly states.

Aaleyah's hand freezes, she had thought her punishment was already given. She had to tell Saan, and thus opened up her mind to the memories of the past. She was also told to visit the academy. Was that not the punishment? Clearing her throat she places the fork back onto her plate, "When shall I enter court?" she asks, forcing herself to speak in a light voice, to prevent Saan from reading her nerves.

"Hammaan," the queen shakes, "it was under my orders that she came. If anyone shall be punished let it be me." She reaches over to squeeze Aaleyah's hand, "must we give her more stress?" shaking her hand, "look at her eyes, she hasn't slept at all."

Aaleyah shifts away from the queen closer to Saan unconsciously, "I am quite well. We are currently in the process of building friendships with neighboring kingdoms, we must not make the state of the court seem weak. It is more beneficial for me to be punished publicly to show that no one is fit to disrupt the Dlumaeni royals, not even an Aljehni." She moves her hand away from the queen's and places them both on her lap.

Saan pulls Aaleyah's chair closer to him, "We are not punishing Aaleyah not publicly or otherwise." sitting back leisurely in his seat, "A king that does not care for his queen will not care for his kingdom."

Hammun nods in thought, "That is true, we could spin it that way." Rubbing his chin, "The king's loyalty knows no bounds. We could vow to be as loyal to our friends as we are our own family."

The lips of King Hammaan curls, "Hence why it is important you come to court." he muses. His dark gaze focuses on Aaleyah.

"There should still be a punishment of some sort. If I go unpunished it sets a precedent that anyone can invade the king's court." Aaleyah ignores Saan tapping the edge of her chair.

Hestia usually does not join in conversations like this. Her mind is not able to follow the politics and human nature to what she would call betrayal. "But," next to her Hammun nods for her to continue speaking. "Aaleyah is an Aljehni."

Hearing the repeated statement Aaleyah's chest grows cold. The name Aljehni is a sword hanging over her head, tied by a jute rope. With each sway of the wind another part of it breaks, and she lives her life waiting for the killing blow.

Unaware of Aaleyah's thoughts Hestia continues, "An Aljehni is more than just a princess, her family is blessed by the Lord of the Heavens. It is her spiritual relationship that has allowed us to get to the queen." Turning back and forth between the king and Saan, "Could we not say something like that?"

"I do not converse with the Lord of Heavens." She moves her chair back to its original place ignoring Saan, "It would be a sin to lie about that."

"Aaleyah if we punish you we can please some kingdoms," Hammun scratches above his eye, "but not all." He gazes at his fiancee for a moment before returning his attention to Aaleyah, "Other kingdoms may be insulted as well as outraged. Your family had many connections, and some of the friendships our kingdom has is solely due to your family. To punish you would anger those kingdoms."

It is not stated outright but the kingdoms are obvious. The Heahnian kingdom is the most powerful one. Known for staying neutral, but their peace does not equate to weakness. If angered they have the means to take over lands and build their own empire. Luckily the king and queen were close friends of Aljehni's and followed their will to form an alliance with Aidkjeen.

Saan taps his fingers on the table, "We leave Aaleyah unpunished," his eyes hold a dark glint, "then we sit and wait for the old rein's followers to retaliate." Looking at his father, "this is our chance to know who is truly on your side or not." Saan snakes his foot around the leg of Aaleyah's chair and pulls it back towards him, "The reason she goes unpunished is not because she is an Aljehni," he looks his brother in the eye as he says these words. "But because she is my wife."

Aaleyah, no longer able to ignore him, turns to look at Saan's hard expression.

"If the future queen is punished it takes away her power. As far as the people in court need to know, the king gave Aaleyah this power, the queen gave her this power, and I gave her this power. To punish her is to punish the crown." Then with a smirk he adds, "Aaleyah will stay at my side for half a moon. If need be you can allow the world to see that as a punishment."

As the saying goes, 'The words of the king are law.'

The king's eyes twinkle at his son's blatant protection of his wife. "Yes, Aaleyah will stay at your side to be watched, she will be unable to stir more trouble." He waves towards the food on the table, "Enough discussion, let us enjoy the meal with Anahita."

Saan takes Aaleyah's hand and places the fork back in it, "Have some fruit." he tells her, piling her plate with grapes and plums.

King Hammaan sits on the throne, on either side of the aisle the officials and advisors sit. On his left Saan sits in his royal garb, a dark expression on his face. He has been listening to the disagreements and whines of the children that claim to be court officials for an hour now. With nothing to say he had sat quietly in his seat, his expertise not needed. That is until Aaleyah walked in.

On the king's right is Hammun, a brush in hand as he writes on the paper. The topic of funding for the academy and magistrates updates have finished, and Hammun organizes them while speaking to Advisor Shah.

Aaleyah stands in front of the king, in the middle of the two aisles. Her cold demeanor would normally make the advisors and officials nervous, but knowing this could be their only chance to punish her some ignore their fear to speak.

Official Amon stands and bows deeply, "Your majesty, if I may," he waits for the king's acknowledgement before speaking, "to allow a crime to go unpunished can have dire consequences. What if others seek out the same power you are allotting?" he turns his gaze to Aaleyah, who does not spare a glance in his direction. "The crime must be punished to give an example to the world that no one should insult the king."

Standing up on the opposite side, Official Darius pontins his fingers, "Others like you!" he accuses. "Funds were given to the department of agriculture to aid the farmers. Some of those funds disappeared and the last to touch them was your son, no?" he asks with a mocking grin. "If anyone should know about seeking power they do not deserve it would be the department of agriculture."

"How dare you!" Amon walks to the front of the aisle, the only reason he does not cross it is due to Aaleyah's cold eyes that freeze him in his spot. "You dare to speak about my son? We were proven innocent."

Official Darius smirks, of course he is aware of this. He purposely brought up the topic knowing of the response he would get. "And who pray tell is the reason behind that? Is it not the high princess you are pleading for the king to punish?"

Minister Amon swallows and sneaks a peak at the high princess before him. If not for the high princess urging for evidence his son would have been framed. It was High Princess Aaleyah who personally came with the commissioner to help catch the culprit, saving Minister Amon's son as well as his entire family.

"One must not allow friendships to corrupt the sanctity of court." he mutters.

Official Darius laughs and moves the back of his robe so he can sit back down, "I am so glad to hear you agree. Thus the king has given his order, for the sanctity of the court we as officials shall follow it." Side-eying Minister Amon, "Unless there are those who claim to be more knowledgeable than the king."

Minster Amon's teeth grind. To continue to fight with Official Darius he would be forced to publicly disagree with the king. While the case with his family was solved, he still has eyes on him and must tread carefully. Being forced to accept his defeat, "Of course not. I only had concerns for the state of the kingdom's peace." he says. Bowing, "My humblest apologies." He turns to return to his seat but is stopped by Saan's words.

"The one you should apologize to stands before you." Saan rises from his seat, "Minister Amon, head of agriculture, you seem to hold knowledge of the safety of the kingdom, perhaps you are in the wrong position." he says darkly as he makes his way down the stairs. "If I was aware of your skillset I would have intervened earlier."

Hearing the threat in Saan's words Amon drops to the floor bowing deeply, "This subject does not deserve such praise. The High Prince needs not look at me." he yells.

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, "You are a subject?" he asks in a confusing tone. "Why do you kneel before me?"

Raising his head, "You are High Prince Saan, next in line for the throne, one must show you respect." Amon answers feeling confusion on the questions he is being asked.

"Your son Akl received honors from the academy, however there were other students who showed promise. Accepting him into the king's court was truly a gift." Saan says in a bored tone. "A gift that was only given because of my brother, the prince and the high princess's careful consideration." Staring down at Amon, "Minister Amon's family has climbed high, high enough to believe they can yell at the High Princess."

Minster Amon shakes his head, "I apologize-"

"Don't interrupt me." Saan commands. "This court is fair, you have every right to disagree and state your opinions, but you will do so with respect." Walking past Amon in a nervous puddle on the floor, Saan eyes scan everyone in the court, "Without respect your words will be heard only after punishment for your insubordination."

Standing by Aaleyah's side, "The high princess of the kingdom will stay by my side. With me keeping an eye on her, who would dare say she is causing trouble?" he asks aloud.

Amon stays nervously on the floor awaiting his punishment for speaking rudely.

"Speak." Saan orders darkly, "Have you nothing to say?"

Amon turns on his knees and bows to Aaleyah, "High Princess Aaleyah, this lowly subject apologizes for speaking loudly in your ear. This lowly subject had forgotten his place, and thanks High Prince Saan for reminding me. My loyalty is to the throne and therefore to you as well."

Saan's dark eyes lighten as he turns his attention to Aaleyah, "High Princess Aaleyah is kind and does not demand you to follow the rules and hierarchy. She humbles herself to be punished as if she is another citizen of the kingdom." Returning his dark eyes to Amon, "I on the other hand am not. You will address the high princess the same way you address me. She is not your equal, and it is through her that you, Minister Amon will leave with a warning. For it is she that has once again saved your family."

With one motion of Saan's hand Amon scrambles to get off his knees and return to his place.

Aaleyah's dark eyes follow Saan but she is unable to speak, her words of disagreement will only create more discord. Instead she gives Hammun a look for assistance.

Rising from his seat, "As High Prince Saan said, the High Princess will stay by his side, are there any other concerns regarding the matter?" Prince Hammun's calm brown eyes scan the other officials who have been oddly silent.

King Hammaan claps his hands, "Then allow us to adjourn, the sun is already moving towards the west."

Thus everyone bows and exits the court quickly, hoping to avoid High Prince Saan's wrath. All the while whispering about what they just saw.

"It has been some time since High Prince Saan attended court. Now I know why."

"He was so quiet the entire morning, one could almost believe he was not even listening before."

"It is good that the high princess was not punished severely, Lord of Heavens truly watches over the last Aljehni. If not for the high prince, she would never demand the respect she deserves."

When the doors close Saan takes Aaleyah's hand, "Must you insist on punishing yourself?" he sighs, "Did you truly have no intention to stop him from disrespecting you?"

Hammun sets the brush down and makes his way down the stairs, "Saan, Aaleyah was only trying to avoid chaos. Do you not recall our conversation at the breakfast table? If she demands more power and respect it only lightens the candle of tension that an Aljehni has too much power." he tells his brother, his hand on Saan's to have him release Aaleyah's hand.

The frosty look in Saan's eyes does not fade as he turns to his brother, "And I thought I made myself clear. She will not be punished, she will not apologize, she has done nothing wrong. I will not diminish the power she has to please the very men who sit in their chairs due to her kindness." He steps close to his brother, "To assume I will is foolish." He does not wait for Hammun to respond and takes his wife's hand to exit out the side doors.
