Chapter 9
It has been five minutes, and the drink is still not ready. She has been wondering how long it takes to prepare a simple iced coffee.
No drinks and no Kaye were in sight, so Z just pretended to look down at her phone. Swiping up and down the notification bar like a madman helped ease the awkwardness.
She then noticed once again out of the corner of her eye that the kitchen door had opened again, revealing the goddess she had been hoping to see since last night.
She could see that the goddess had fixed her hair in a tight bun, although she liked it either way, revealing her lengthy and enchanting neck. She dared to imagine what it would feel like to run her nose over it and sniff that beautiful line down to her shoulder.
She changed to the same size t-shirt but with a different design that hides her short shorts while still showcasing her thicc and tantalizing legs.
She could feel a sudden rush rising up her neck as she watched Kaye walk like a supermodel on a runway to her table. She rose slowly, still in awe, taking in all her interests.
"Hey there! I'm so sorry about that." The strawberry blonde woman let out a cute little giggle and added, "That idiotic brother of mine was being mean by not telling me who's looking for me. I, I was in the middle of something, hence the messy state I was in earlier." Kaye explained as she looked down and placed her hand on her back, cursing her brother silently in the back of her mind.
"No, uh, you don't have to apologize. Sorry for the sudden visit; I didn't want to bother you all." Z waved her hand in dismissal and smoothly added, "And—you looked pretty either way." She said in one breath that she had to breathe slowly to recover, not aware that she had been holding her breath as she watched her.
"Thanks." She flushed and smiled.
Z gestured to the seat and said, "Please have a seat."
She was still admiring the beauty in front of her when something registered on her mind and Z had to ask, "Brother?"
Kaye just glares at Oliver as the guy walks up to them and hands her the iced coffee she ordered.
"Yes, this dummy here is my big brother," Kaye said, rolling her eyes at her brother.
Astounded, Z stands up to meet her brother. "Oh, I had no idea."
She motions to face Oliver and extends a handshake, which he gladly takes. "Oliver's the name, and it's nice to meet you."
"The pleasure is all mine. You can call me Z." She said politely, thankful that she didn't lash out at his antics.
"I was wondering when my little sister would introduce me, but yeah, now that introductions are done, I'll let you two be." Oliver nodded, his trademark smirk on his face.
"Thank you." Z nodded and smiled.
"Why are you here? Just leave already." Kaye signed and shooed her brother away.
"See you around, Z." He finally said and went back to fix other people's drinks.
"I'm sorry about my brother, he's kind of messed up in the head, so please don't mind him."
"No, I don't mind him at all. I totally get how you feel. I live with someone who is far worse, so I'm good with that. In fact, your brother might be an angel compared to my friend J. I'm rather thankful he called you out." Z tried to convince Kaye.
"Oh, by the way, what did you need me for?" She asked expectantly.
Z felt pressured, not knowing how to answer the question, and just said the truth "I erm, I just, I wanted to see you, like, hang out maybe?"
She saw Kaye smile sheepishly and continued, "My friend went home for the weekend so yea, I got nothing to do so I bought some drinks."
"So I'm a substitute for the missing friend?" she teased.
"Not really, no. I mean, I thought I'd drop by if you wouldn't mind me doing that." Z bit the inside of her bottom lip as she felt her nerves shoot up for some reason.
"You don't have any other friends?" Kaye asked innocently. She didn't want to ask such a question but she found herself teasing the woman in front of her.
Her left eye twitched at the question and she answered, "I actually do, but they don't live around here, and this is the closest place I can think of."
Not sure if it was her imagination, but Kaye's eyes sparkled when she asked in an excited manner, "So do you live around here?"
"Yeah, I don't know, maybe 10? …15 minutes' walk from here? Give or take." Z shrugged.
"That's awesome, and you work around here as well, right?" Kaye further questioned.
"Yes, that's right." she replied.
They just went on and talked about random stuff. Z learned that they own the place. They fail to notice that the sun is about to retire. Their drinks have been long gone, and they seem to have forgotten about the people around them and got lost in their own little world.

Their moment got cut off by a call from Z's phone. She excused herself and rose from her seat to answer the phone outside the shop.
"Zup, brother!" J roared as she answered.
"You know, you always call me at the most inconvenient time." Z talked back with a bit of annoyance hinting in her voice.
"Yeah, that's my forte. So, what's up? You miss me already?" J just casually answered, not minding her tone.
"Why'd you call?" Z sighed.
"Mom is pestering me again about you. She wants you to come home for dinner, and I'd love for you to pick me up."
Kaye just watched her from the shop. She thought about how adorable she is as she softly kicked the ground while talking on the phone.
Z's eyes traveled back inside the store to check on her and caught her staring at her.
'She likes to stare a lot,' She thought while still speaking with, now, Amelia on the other line.
Kaye averted her eyes for a moment but slowly looked back only to find the tall girl staring at her as well. Everything around them went into slow motion as they were both in a trance and admiring. They almost looked as if they were seducing each other.
The call ended, and she went back to the shop. "Ah, that was my brother, I mean, my friend, asking me to pick him up."
Z casually said, in a way that Kaye understood, "I see. How about you go on your way now. It's getting late."
"I see you don't want me here anymore." Z fakes a pout.
"I mean, if you have to go, then by all means." Kaye replied in a low voice, biting her lower lip, while Z just died inside, thinking, 'How can someone be so cute and hot at the same time?'
"Yea, no, he's just trying to annoy me, he drove his car all the way up there." she cleared her throat trying to ease the tension that still lingers.
"Although I still have to go because his parents want me there for dinner, and I can't just say no for the nth time." She let out a sigh and chuckled.
Z ended the silence that took over for a whole minute and asked, "Perhaps, are you free tomorrow?" This was all or nothing for her, but she gave it a try as the idea came up.
"I believe so, yes. Why?" Kaye replied almost instantly, her eyes glittering for a moment as she wondered if she was asking her for another date, to which she would agree in a heartbeat.
"I was wondering if you'd like to go on a trip with me?" Z spoke cautiously, looking for any reaction from the girl sitting across from her.
"Not a trip trip but I'm going out to take photos for reference we need at work. Maybe visit someplace out of town for a day." trying hard not to sound suspicious, hoping this won't scare her off.
The goddess blessed her with a bright smile that she thought was brighter than her future, and it made her heart skip a beat.
"I would love to!" Kaye beamed and leaned closer, showing her excitement.
Z just couldn't contain her smile anymore, showing a perfect set of white teeth. Little did she know that Kaye was having some gay panic inside caused by that lovely grin.
"That's good to know." As she stood up, she said.
They both walked to the door, smiles not leaving their faces as they reached her car, which was parked outside the shop across the street.
She opened the door of her late father's Chevy Impala and rested one elbow on the roof while the other was on the door. "Pick you up in the morning at maybe around 8?" she asked Kaye. She knows it's too early even for her, but she might as well take the chance.
Kaye admired how she looked cool with the car; she thought she was looking at a car advertisement with Z modeling for it.
"Sure, I'll be waiting here." She nodded, flashing her lovely smile.
Kaye just watched as the car drove away until it was out of her sight. Her mind went over the horizon as the thought of a date sank in.
