Chapter 8 - Red eyes

Athena's Point of View:

I immediately left for my mother's place after my morning class. I want to find out how they are doing there. If they accept her new husband, I'm curious about how he treats her. The volleyball players' training begins next week, so Joy and I both signed up right away because we adore it. I worry that information of my presence in the Philippine Islands may get to the Buenaventuras, and I feel unsafe here because I can always feel eyes on me.

In front of the gate, I parked my motorcycle. As soon as the gate was open, I rushed over and was shocked to see my mother's sweating face. I have a lot of resentment for my father, but I'm not sure why. I'll be completely honest here: I have no idea who my biological father is anymore since I learned that my mother had been raped. Is the person who raped mommy or Daddy Buenaventura.

"Athena?" I blinked when I heard her soft voice. "Have you been there before? I'm sorry, I was doing a lot and I didn't notice you."

Every time I visit my mother, I worry about whether she will still accept me if I tell her that I was a victim in an experiment. Will she still accept me if I tell her that I have red eyes? Since those individuals brought me to the Philippines, she has been by my side for 19 years. I inhaled deeply and automatically hugged my mother; I could feel her surprise and so I patted her shoulder.

"Mom, I'm right here next to you." I caressed her back and stopped when I heard her cry. "I will not leave you. I will never be like Daddy."

"Athena...dear," She said in a low voice and looked at me. "Always remember that I accept you. I will still accept you no matter what you do."

We walked inside the house with simply a smile from me. My mother's spouse was in the kitchen preparing lunch, and I could see my three siblings studying hard. Despite knowing that mother still loves her father, mommy's husband is nice and has never abandoned her.

"Oh, Athena." He was surprised to see me. I really don't understand why I see nervousness and fear in his eyes and so does mommy. Am I really scary?

"Good evening," I said in a calm voice. "I just came here to see mommy."

I sat down to eat as soon as he nodded. After taking a deep breath, I pulled out the paperwork for my coffee shop and bakery. I worry about what will happen to my mother if I'm not by her side constantly, therefore I want mommy to be occupied in some way without me being here all the time. I inhaled deeply and shook my head. Perhaps it is up to me since I won't let them hurt Mommy.

"Mom, these are the papers for the bake shop and coffee shop." She looked at me in shock. "When the children grow up they can manage a coffee shop and bake shop. I also want you to be busy and do business because...the food you always cooked is delicious."

"Dear...you don't have to give it to me," She said and swallowed. "I don't need that and just seeing you is okay with me. You work hard to have them both so I don't think I deserve it."

While speaking, her husband was looking at me and my mother, so I turned to face him. I took a deep breath and simply nodded because I didn't want to repeat what I had said. Mommy was holding my hand and smiling sorrowfully, so I turned to look at her as well.

"I'm sorry Athena, I just don't want people to say anything to me. I also don't want the Buenaventuras to say anything to me, so it's better that I don't interfere in what you're doing," She said in a calm voice.

I remained in the room as soon as we finished eating. When I noticed that we had a scheduled transaction for tomorrow at 12am, I took a big breath. I quickly used the restroom before changing into a new outfit of black jeans, a white tank top, a leather jacket, black flat boots, and a hat. Since nobody was downstairs when I left the room after taking a quick glance in the mirror, I went out quietly and walked over to my motorcycle before calling Rina.

["We're on our way. I was going to call you but I know you don't need it anymore."]

"See you later. Look around and tell me the details." I said and immediately hang up.

I swiftly dropped once I arrived at the large warehouse and adjusted my mask. I realized I was running late when I noticed the cars parked on the side. I shook my head and made a quick departure for them. As he turned to face me, I overheard Chase grinning.

"Our ALAS is here," He said and adjusted his blazer.

Everybody glanced at me. The fact that they are ten and I believe there are still some individuals in the dark makes me grin even though I know I can't trust them because I don't know them well.

"Good evening," I said. "It's nice to see you, Mr. Gordon."

He smiled and nodded at me, "The ALAS. Anyways, I came here to do a transaction with you, we have the money and if you don't mind I want to see the guns."

Alexander and Sky put the boxes to the side as soon as I nodded. I took a careful look at their people because there were so many of them and so few of us, including my four people. They observed the still-sealed weapons and listened as Sky described our weapons to them; it appeared that those in front wanted it.

"This is nice," said Mr. Gordon. "I liked it so much."

I gasped when we heard a loud gunshot. When they realized the older gentleman was here, I instantly ran to the side because it appeared to be Mr. Gordon's rival. I muttered a curse before firing Sky's gun in the front, looking at Rina as she ran steadily to the opposite side and at Alexander as well.

Then he swiftly drew out his long pistol and said, "Mr. Gordon! Get out of there! You're in a hurry and you even managed to get a rifle, you're going to die too!"

I turned to face Chase, and we exchanged short nods. I gave the man's friends up front a kick in the back. I jumped and gave the person standing to my side a punch to the jaw. I punched one of the two in the stomach before grabbing his arm and throwing him forward.

"Who are you?!" The man shouted but I didn't pay attention to him anymore.

I smacked his face. He loudly moaned as a result of my smile and a waist-punch. My eyes were burning. That changed. I merely smiled under the mask and punched his chest as he stared at me in disbelief.

"Why are your eyes red?" He said, looking at me nervously and scared.

"Who are you to answer?" I said and stomped on his chest. "Remember those eyes. You broke the transaction we had and I will let you die here."

I pulled my swiss knife out and kicked him in the face. The swiss knife I was carrying was in his chest in a second because I lost control of my body. I sighed and blinked because I saw a dead body in front of me once more.

"Athena," said Chase. "Are you alright?"

I nodded while glancing at the person in front of me. We looked at Mr. Gordon right away after hearing Alexander sigh, and I shook my head when I saw that he had passed away. I rapidly destroyed the warehouse with Mr. Gordon's money, put it in my arm, and will deliver it to Mr. Sandoval for the charity I established.

Nice work. I smiled and got inside my car as I once more heard that voice in my head. He is the only person who does this to my body in addition to being there in my mind. This Empire's red eyes are quietly killing me.
