Chapter 5 - The Flight

The next day, Ryan entered the Soviet base and observed. Hmm, there is a lack of security, and I can easily intercept the pilot in the latrine as they are individual toilets. He dashes toward the fence in the darkness of the early morning and hides in the toilet booth, waiting for the unsuspecting victim to come. After a painful hour of waiting, Ryan's poor victim finally entered the latrine to relieve himself. Ryan quickly hit the Soviet's head with the butt of his pistol and knocked him out, then he killed him and donned the victim's G-suit and flight helmet.

Ryan grabbed the body, dragged it in towards the toilet, and dumped it inside. There was a trail of blood in the restroom from the stains left when Ryan disposed of the body. Ryan quickly grabbed some paper towels and attempted to wipe away the blood. When the blood was finally wiped clean, he exited the restroom and walked towards SU-57 that belonged to his victim. The mechanic that was servicing the plane gave him a weird look.

"Dimitri, I thought that you decided not to go back to Moscow because you had a stomachache," said the mechanic.

Ryan, who was sweating because he thought that he was seen through, replied, "I feel much better now, I have now decided to go back to Moscow with my comrades."

"Very good, I wish I could go but it is not yet my turn to return to Moscow. Let us hope that little boy and fat man will not come to Japan again. But I always wanted to become a pilot, but they rejected me because they thought I was too dumb to attend flight school," said the mechanic.

After Ryan boarded his SU-57, he glanced at his face through the reflection of his visor; a weary tired face stared back at him. Ryan suddenly felt extremely tired, and he wondered when the war would end. He pondered his purpose in life; he was twenty-five and he had no one except for himself. Seeing that other pilots were starting the pre-flight checks, he quickly started the pre-flight checks: checking flaps, rudder, brakes, FCS, and his weapons.

After he was done with his prechecks, he turned on the main power to his engines, the fuel lines and started the two powerful engines that produce 20,000 pounds of thrust each. Taxing to the runway with the other SU-57s, he quickly flew up to cruising altitude and he was enroute to Moscow along with the other SU-57s. He gazed at the clouds and the sleek Su-57s around him as they approached Mach 1; their IAS reaching 600 km/h due to their high altitude although their actual speed was approaching Mach and vapor cones began to form around them as they begun to break through the sound barrier.
