Chapter 25 - When she pulled the insane act...A trick?

Evans Kurt dozed off after examining his critical patient whom he had to monitor at various intervals, but his brother's sudden emergency call startled him. To make matters worse, Eric's few words after he picked up the call had him worried and he wondered what could have happened to the girl.

The worse that could happen was for her to regain consciousness and maybe, a minor relapse of the mind. A more serious condition might be memory loss, which he hoped and prayed wouldn't happen but that's very likely to happen in her situation due to the hard blow.

Developing memory loss in their current situation may result in many complications. One of them was the interference of the cops and the reputation of his brother's career on the other hand.

Therefore, Evans immediately got up as fast as he could and run to his car to get to the house quickly and sort out any complications before it gets worse. He couldn't help his imagination from going wild.

It was already morning and his shift was over anyway. Even though Evans wanted to return home earlier than now, he decided to just sleep in his private room last night at the hospital since he was too tired to drive home.

On his way, Evans tried Eric's number many times but he didn't pick up which had him tensed, so he had to call his brother's manager Jeffrey to go check on them.

Jeffrey stayed in a villa attached to Eric's Mansion.

Meanwhile, the situation at the Mansion was getting more intense as Eric tried to calm Kristine down from her sudden strange episodes and tantrums.

"Hey there,...I don't know what's going on with you but this place is definitely not Caleb's, nor Is Caleb hiding anywhere here. This is my house! and my name is Eric Kurt. You were hit by a car last night remember?" Eric drew closer and sat next to her on the bed. But Kristine seemed unbothered, not moving an inch, and continued her countdown...Four...Five!.

It was as if she didn't even hear anything he just said. But suddenly, she paused midway in her counts and turned her attention to him.

"I know he is your friend and you are trying to cover for him by hiding him. please! tell him I am not mad at him. You see, like I said, I am not even yelling so he can come out from wherever he is hiding." Kristine spoke after a long silence, while Eric was trying to figure out what went wrong with her sudden long pause.

Why was she still insisting on Caleb being here? Who was that freaking Caleb anyway...

"Why do you think I might be hiding Caleb...I don't even know who you are or the Caleb you are referring to." Eric emphasized, hoping to get some sense into her.

However, Kristine turned to look at Eric's face and glared daggers at him before she got closer to look deeper into his eyes. As if she would notice in his eyes whether he was lying or not.

Meanwhile, when Eric thought he was finally beginning to get her attention and she was starting to believe him, what she said next frustrated him even more...

"Did he tell you to say that to me... that you don't know him?? Or are you trying to play with me like he did?" Kristine uttered maliciously.

Eric was taken aback at this sudden accusation. He had finally had it with her, with all sorts of foul comments from her mouth, hence, he gave into his frustrations and decided to give up on trying to calm her until his brother arrives.

Evans was taking too long in getting here and he was losing his patience, so he decided to play her game and test her to see whether she was actually pretending about her insanity.

Eric's mind became occupied with various thoughts on how to go about testing her.

Did she already lose her sanity or did the accident mess up her head after the hard blow? or Maybe, she recognized who he was and was pretending so she could get more compensation out of him. That's quite logical for a reason.

Well, let's find that out. He was ready to play her game.

Eric thought of ways to approach the girl in front of him in the game of pretense and blow her cover. Then an awesome idea stuck in his mind.

Why shouldn't he pretend like her and play along, he should act like he knew what was going on or what exactly she was talking about so far. It looked like she wouldn't believe anything contrary to her assumptions anyway, so he needed to play along in order to test her, or maybe, until his brother arrives and handle the situation.

Nevertheless, he needed to match her beliefs. He was an actor after all....this was a piece of cake! Eric drew closer to her while seated on the bed, and brushed his fingers on her cheeks in a soothing manner of caress.

Kristine frowned at his sudden reaction but still did not move an inch from her spot until he moved closer and hugged her. That was when Kristine's defense instinct kicked in and she pushed Eric harder than she did on the bed a while ago. He fell hard on his butt and winced in extreme pain.

"I hope she had warned me. This hurts like hell!" Eric hissed in frustration.

This time around, he stood up to hold her down on the bed and talk some sense into her, but instead, his action startled her and made Kristine assume the worse. She slipped out of his hand and ran out of his room, down the stairs, and opened the main door until she got outside the house toward the garden.

All along, Eric was on his heels behind her, chasing after her and trying to stop her before she falls and worsen her condition even more.

The moment the outside cold breeze washed over him, Eric paused in his tracks as a realization he didn't notice before.

To his amazement, he just realised how this strange girl knew her way around the big house and how smoothly she moved around despite being in a haste to get away from him. When this was apparently the first time in his house.

Any new stranger in this house will be confused about where the stairs or the main door to the exits were, but he realized Kristine already knew every corner of the house as he trail behind her all this while.

"How did she run around his house so freely. As if she had been here all her life?. how could she be soo familiar with where to go and the way outside the house soo easily! Just How?!". And that was another mystery on the list of things Eric had to find out about this stranger in his home.

For now, he had to stop her from making her condition worse and avoid his brother's scolding.

Evans would be like...

"You can't take care of a girl I left in your care? Thank God you are not the doctor between us, or patients will die before they get treatments." Eric mimicked his brother's words some time ago during Evans's doctor training in college.

An episode that brought amusement to his face whenever he remembered that incident. It was about Evans's first trial patient in his care who run away from her ward and had everyone in the training group looking for her.

That time, Eric came to support his brother in his training and accidentally found that patient inside the men's restroom then called Evans to come get her.

"Hold unto her and don't let her escape until I get there...she can be devious so don't believe her no matter what she says and wait for me." Evans instructed Eric on phone during their call as he hurried to come get the girl.

But by the time Evans arrived, the girl disappeared once again and it frustrated Evans so much he began to scold him and they nearly fought over nothing.

Such memories still amused Eric anytime he remembered them, especially all the petty fights amongst themselves and how they later realized their fights were merely petty and over nothing.

Well, they grew through it and it bonded their relationship for the best. Since they had to rely on each other at that time, with their Nanny Rachel gone, and their stepmother Clara's dislike for them. Their dad was the only one they bonded with until they began to question why he remarried a woman like Clara Johnson after their mother's death. It was during that time that their relationship with their dad began to fall apart and the distance got worse after Nanny Rachel left.

Well, back to the present...

Eric run behind Kristine until she reached the direction of the main exit gate of his mansion. Since the gate was locked and looked so huge to approach, Kristine had no choice but to stop in her tracks.

She turned around to confront the threat behind her but Eric also paused when she stopped.

Threats were Kristine's only way to escape from her pursuer's clutches so she calmed her resolve and gathered her courage to put across a strong warning for Eric to stay away from her.

"I dare you to come closer and I swear you are going to regret it." Kristine warned raising her finger to show how serious her words were. She puts on a well-deserving intimidated face that would have scared anyone who didn't know her.

But unfortunately, Eric dealt with her already so he appeared unfazed by that strong threat.

To match her reaction, Eric put on a fierce look of a tormentor, as an actor, he had all his expressions on point and Kristine seemed to stumble when she noticed him stepping closer toward her.

Suddenly, she began to scream for help when she realized her threats weren't enough to hold him back.

All her frustrations about Caleb and her past with him came like a flash before her and got her more enraged. That was when she let out all the frustrations and contempt she developed for Men in general, after her incident with Caleb Donnells in the past.

Feeling betrayed about her formal relationship and how cruel her break up with Caleb was, Kristine realized she still had feelings for him when she thought he brought her here. And that realization enraged her beyond imagination.

Why did she have to think about Caleb after she let go of everything related to him in her past? Why now?!

Meanwhile, judging from the pervert tormentor before her right now, she realized all men were the same. They aren't worth a dime of sincerity or loyalty.

The thoughts about her sister's breakup and the tragedy Rhea experienced at the hands of men add up to her anger.

It was as if all her anger on men suddenly multiplied tenfold at that moment and she could no longer take it, so she had no idea when she suddenly let loose all her bitterness and frustrations on the poor man tailing behind her.

Eric had to take on all her spite and contempt he had no hand in, as Kristine apportioned the entire blame of every Man on him.

"I hate you! In fact, I hate all the men in this universe. You all are betrayers... and you don't deserve any woman's loyalty or tears. I want nothing to do with you so don't you dare come closer". Kristine labeled all her accusations on Eric to get him off her back.

Eric, on the other hand, became amused at her outburst. He must have gotten used to it by now with her ,numerous tantrums a while ago.

Anyway, he could care less about what she thought of him. She was only saying that because she was trapped and had nowhere else to run, so he hardheadedly drew closer to her step-by-step, but Kristine took desperate steps back until she felt a wall behind her back.

She was now trapped!
