Chapter 43 - Phones

"Lizzy?" I called out my best friend, the best friend in the world.

"Yeah, gal." She replied.

"Do you mind following me somewhere?" I asked.

"Are we going on a best friend's walk?" She asked jokingly.

"Uh!"

"Maybe," I replied to her and shrugged at the same time.

"So, where are we going?" She asked excitedly.

"I will tell you on our way," I replied to her.

"Are we driving?" She asked.

"Yeah, we gotta borrow your boyfriend's car," I said to her with a smile.

"Yeah, permission granted." She said to me and smiled back.

"Come on, let's go get ready," I said to her and went into my room to change into something else.

I returned to the living room while waiting for Lizzy to come out to join me.

I sat down on the couch and brought out my phone, I checked for the news update.

The police keep picking and arresting many blond ladies and later release them after realizing that they aren't me.

I laughed out unknowingly continuously while reading the news. Different rumours about me keep coming up every single day.

Like, I was still the hot topic for more than a month now.

I wonder if they aren't going to give me a shout-out for my birthday.

Just then, Lizzy joined me in the living room, with a key holder containing a car key.

"Hey, you took forever. What happened?" I asked as I stood up.

We were standing beside each other.

We were about to walk out of the living room when Raymond said,

"Wait up ladies."

"What do you want?" Lizzy asked him.

"Can I join you two?" He requested.

I didn't mind if he joined us, but I do not know about Lizzy.

Lizzy rolled her eyes first and then shrugged and said,

"Whatever." Trust me, she meant yes.

Raymond walked up to us and past us, as he walked towards the door and held it open for I and Lizzy to Walk out of the room first.

What a gentleman.

We got to Hale's car and Lizzy slid into the driver's seat.

She was going to drive, but Raymond insisted on driving, so she allowed him.

I took them to the house in the woods, the one where I left my money, laptop, and clothes.

I don't know if Lizzy still remembers it, but I hope she does.

"Lizzy," I called her name.

"Yeah." She answered.

"Do you remember this house?" I asked her the moment we stepped out of the car.

"It looks familiar, but I am not sure." She said with a frown.

"We have been here before," I said to her.

"Us?" She asked, surprised.

"Yes."

"Don't you remember?" I asked.

She shook her head first and then said,

"No, I don't remember."

"We were here about three or four years ago," I said to her.

"Really?"

"So, why don't I remember?" She asked.

"I don't know. I guess you are dumb or maybe you don't have a retentive memory." I said to her mockingly.

She rolled her eyes and said,

"Whatever, let's just go in."

We entered the wooden house and sat on the bed except for Raymond who was just walking around.

"Wow, how come there is electricity in here?" He asked as he seemed amazed.

"I don't know, "I replied to him and shrugged at the same time.

"It's a miracle, right?" He asked excitedly.

"Yeah, I guess so," I replied.

"So what do you have to pick?" He asked me.

"My laptop, money, and some clothes or should I just pack all of my clothes?" I asked both of them.

"Just those?" He asked.

"Yes. Please help me to grab that bag. Lizzy, help me with the laptop." I instructed them.

They help me carry what I asked of them, while I carry the bag containing my money.

We returned to the car again and drove off, out of the old house premises and returned to where we all live together.

When we returned, Lizzy and Genevieve joined me in my room to assist me to arrange my clothes.

When we finished arranging the clothes and my room, I said,

"Thank you."

"You are welcome. I need to rest." Lizzy said, as she tapped me on my shoulder twice and left the room.

"You are welcome, my Lady," Genevieve said, as she was about to walk out of the room, I stopped her by saying,

"Genevieve, wait. I have something for you."

"Yes, my Lady." She said, as she turned back and walked closer to me.

I reached for my old phone and stretched it towards her. I have already removed my sim card earlier this morning.

I have been meaning to give it to her since, but I always forget it, because I have been having a lot of things going on inside my mind lately.

I would have given it to her the day she and Raymond came to meet the rest of us, but I didn't as part of her punishment for what she did or her confession rather.

"My Lady, you don't have to. It was just clothes. I helped you with no intention of you paying me back for it. I did it out of kindness." She said.

"Don't you mean for my forgiveness?" I asked my Lady.

"I think that is it, my Lady." She said and she bowed her head.

"It is it," I said.

"Yes, my Lady." She said to me, as she shut her eyes too in frustration.

I sighed very deeply and said,

"Raise your head."

"Take it already," I said to her, as I was still holding up my arm in front of her.

She raised her head and collected the phone from me and said in a broken voice,

"Thank you, my Lady." She was smiling from ear to ear too.

I smiled back and said,

"I didn't give it to you because you helped me to arrange my clothes and my room. I did it because I promised you. Don't you remember?" I asked because she was looking a bit confused at what I was saying to her.

"I am sorry, my Lady. I do not remember." She was sad with a sad tone.

"It's okay," I said to her and nodded, smiling too.

"Do you remember the night I was hospitalized?" I asked and she nodded.

"That was the day I promised to give you a phone," I said to her, smiling.

"Oh!" She exclaimed as her face brightened.

"Do you remember now?" I asked.

"Yes, my Lady." She said excitedly.

"Mmm," I whispered and nodded at the same time.

"Thank you so much, my Lady." She said to me excitedly.

"You can leave," I said to her and sat on the bed.

"Yes, my Lady." She said as she began to walk out of the room.

She stopped walking when she got to the door, turned around and faced me.

"Uhm, my Lady." She said,

"Yes, Genevieve. How may I help you?" I asked her.

"I would like to apologize again for what I said to Johnson." She said with her face down.

I laughed softly and said,

"No, it's okay, it's fine. It's been more than a week now and I have long forgiven you." And gave her a reassuring smile.

Before she could say anything, I quickly added,

"Don't worry, you can raise your head."

"Thank you, my Lady." She said with a big smile on her face, as she raised it.

"You can go now. I want to rest.'' I said to her and lay down on the bed.

''Yes, my Lady."

"Thank you, my Lady." She added and walked out of the room.

I sighed very deeply the moment she completely stepped out of the room.

I wasn't dizzy, nor was I tired. I just and only needed some time to think.

I have a lot of things going through my mind right now, especially issues regarding my birthday tomorrow.

I still don't want to think about anything right now.

I decided to go to the living room to have some fun.

I stood up and left for the living room and I was right, everyone was busy minding their own business, including Lizzy and Hale.

A couple of the house were sitting separately, Lizzy was sitting on the floor, eating from a bowl of fruits in front of her and was on her phone too, while Hale was sitting on one of the couches, eating popcorn and was on his phone.

Raymond was going to and fro, with a lollipop in his mouth and was on his phone.

J.J was sitting on the handrest of the couch, chewing gum and was on his phone too.

What the fuck is happening?

Why is everyone on their phone?

Just then, Genevieve came into the living room with her eyes fixed on the screen of her phone, she was the only one not having anything inside her mouth.

I have to know what's keeping everyone busy, what's making them mind their own business.

I quickly reached for my pocket to bring out my phone.

Oh!

I left it in my room.

I quickly returned to my room, in search of my phone.

It was on top of my bed, I grabbed it and fixed my eyes on the screen.

Oh!

This?

Is it because of this that they are all behaving strangely?

It's nothing new, we have been on the top news for the past week now.

While me still being number one for more than a month now.

But, there is a new problem, they already know our exact number.

How the fuck did they know or notice that we are six in number?

It's just been a week since Raymond and Genevieve joined us.

Her agency reported her disappearance to the police and the police suspected that she was with me.

Are they doing their job or are they just being unfair all in the name of doing their job?

I came out of my room and went to the living room, joining Hale on the couch that he was sitting on.

Genevieve's pictures are all over the internet and news.

I just pity her, because she doesn't deserve this humiliation.

I raised my head from my phone screen and shifted my attention to her.

She wasn't crying, but one could easily see tears rolling down her cheek.

She has been themed,

'The Walking Corpse Accomplice.'

It's very sad and heartbreaking because she is just a maid, but I will and must do everything within my power and strength to protect her.

Now, let's talk about Raymond.

He has been themed,

'The Walking Dead Lover?'

Ugh!

They are even bad at giving names.

I shifted my attention to him.

He was looking emotionless and fearless.

He was just sucking on his lollipop.

Lizzy and Hale were nicknamed,

The Corpse's Buddies.

They weren't sure who my direct friend was.

Wait, J.J is not in the spotlight.

They know that there is someone else, but they don't know his identity.

Like any of his pictures were not on the internet.

Why?

But they know that we are six.

How is that even possible in the first place?

He was very calm but was looking a bit sad.

But why?

He is supposed to be happy because he is lucky.

The rest of us are on the police wanted list, but he is not.

It looks a bit fishy, but he had been with us the whole time. So there's no way he must have betrayed us.

I became very fed up with the total silence in the living room and decided to break it.

I cleared my throat first and then said,

"Hey, buddies. I am not sure."

"Should we be proud of ourselves or scared to death?" I asked.

"I thought we were supposed to be freaked out," Eunice said with a shaky voice.

"Freaked out?"

"Why?" Lizzy asked and giggled.

"I thought we were in trouble." She said again in a shaky voice.
