Chapter 48 - Best thing.

"What is the blood for?" I asked, holding the tiny bag of blood, and showing it to her.

"It's for you." She replied to me with a wild glare.

"What?" I asked and she just nodded.

"What am I supposed to do with it?" I asked confusedly and curiously.

"Drink it." She nodded at the same time.

Was she encouraging me to drink blood?

I know vamps drink blood, but I am not that vamp.

What if I hurt my friends like the ones in movies?

They start hunting innocent people like prey for blood after having the first sip.

No, I don't want to be like them.

What if it's real?

What if I become like them after my first sip or bag?

No, I won't drink this.

"You must because you have to. If you want to survive as a vamp. Like, It's the only way a vampire can survive. Blood is our source of being alive and surviving as a vampire." She said to me and nodded.

"Really?" I asked and she nodded.

"What about water?" I asked.

"Water?" She asked back and I nodded.

"You can still drink water when you are thirsty but it will make you long for more blood because it will make you become more thirsty." She explained to me.

"Really?" I asked and she nodded again, smiling too at the same time.

"So I don't have another alternative?" I asked, she pondered as she placed her palm on her jaw.

"You do have a choice but at first it will be hard but trust me, you can overcome it if you want to. Remember I was once like you, naive."

"I don't mean to be disrespectful, but can you explain everything you just said?" I asked and started to pout.

"Really?" Veronica asked as she fluttered out of frustration.

I nodded as I started to study the blood package bag.

"Okay, let me begin from the top, again." She paused as she swallowed, sighed with her eyes closed and her hands on her hips, she opened her eyes, swallowed again, cleared her throat and then continued,

"You can choose whether you want to eat with your friends or not. You can overcome the temptation but never drink water when you are with them, no you can drink water when you are with them. Ugh!" She screamed as she looked and became confused.

"Easy girl, breathe in slowly and nicely and then breathe slowly and nicely too," I said demonstrating with my hands.

She just ignored my advice, sighed and then continued,

"What I mean is that you can choose to either be a good or a bad vampire. If any of your friends are exposing a part of their body that is sensitive to vampires, especially their neck, tummy and thighs, never drink water in front of them because they might end up being your prey."

She sighed, smiled and then asked,

"Do you understand now?"

"Yes, I do," I replied, nodding at the same time.

"Good girl." She said, smiling. She seemed very satisfied.

"I have a question." I blurted.

"Oh, dear father, what question do you have to ask again?" She asked and sighed as she was looking even more frustrated.

Am I really that good at frustrating people?

Whatever!

"Can I not really drink water in front of them, ever again?"

"Oh Father, give me patience." She prayed silently, sighed again and finally replied to me.

"I didn't say you can't drink water in front of them, you only can't drink water when their sensitive parts are visible, like their neck, tummy and thighs because it will make you want to eat them, okay?" She asked, glaring at me as if I was going to say or do something that will change her life forever.

She walked towards me, collected the bag of blood from me, tore it open and then stretched it out towards me and said,

"Now have your first sip."

"Really?" I asked.

She nodded and replied,

"Yes."

"Okay," I said to her and collected the bag of blood from her with shaky hands and raised it towards my mouth, but paused when she said,

"Wait, how about you put it close to your nose and smell it first, it feels like….like…"

"Don't worry, I understand," I said to her with a smile, nodding at the same time. I did what she instructed and it was true, the smell of the blood makes you speechless and short of words.

I took the first sip and guess what?

It was the best thing I have ever tasted in my entire life. I quickly gulped down the whole content upon realizing it. I made sure a single drop did not run down and a single drop did not remain in the bag. I even craved for more but there weren't.

What to do?

I wiped my mouth and returned the empty packet back into the bag.

"Thank you," I said to her and she nodded.

"How was it?" She asked as she sat down beside me again.

"The best experience ever," I replied with a smile.

"Did you enjoy it?" She asked.

I nodded and replied,

"Yes, thank you for the food and the drink."

We both giggled and sighed at the same time.

She must be very proud of herself, if I were her, I would be proud of myself too for what I just did, for helping another vamp who is new and totally clueless about how to be a vampire.

She sighed again, smiled and asked,

"Are you filled?"

I shook my head and pouted without saying anything, trying to look cute.

"Lier, this should last you for a week." She said and laughed softly.

"For a week?" I asked with a frown.

"Yes." She replied and nodded.

"It's not like I am on any diet or anything like that, so why should I stay a whole week without eating anything?" I murmured and kissed my teeth.

"Tomorrow is your birthday right?" She asked me with a smile.

I wasn't sure how she knew about it but I am going to ask her about it anyway.

"How did you know?" I asked with a frown.

"Ding ding, I am a vamp and remember, I can read your mind. I know your every thought. I know everything you have been thinking about since I came here." She said and smiled revealing her gracious dimples.

"Oh!" That was all I was able to say.

"Yes and happy birthday in advance." She said,

"Thanks," I said with a smile.

"Don't worry, I will give you a bag of blood as your birthday gift since you won't be able to eat cake," Veronica said.

"Really?" I asked excitedly and clapped my hands.

"Yes," Veronica replied, nodding at the same time.

"Thanks in advance," I said and giggled.

"You are welcome in advance." She said with a grin.

I cleared my throat and said

"There are some things I want to ask you."

"What are they, I am all ears." She said as she brushed her hair backwards and put it behind her two ears at the same time with her two hands.

"How long have you been a vampire?" I asked and hoped I didn't offend her by that question.

She cleared her throat twice and replied,

"It has been ever since I was born."

"Are both of your parent's vamps?" I asked.

"No," Veronica replied.

"Which one is a vamp and which one isn't?" I asked.

"I can't tell you, I am sorry." She said and pouted.

I have never seen her pout before. I didn't know vamps can get nervous too.

"It's okay," I said with a forced smile.

"Do you have…..No, do vamps have other types of power, like superpowers, other than transforming from a vamp to human and vice versa?" I asked and hoped she obliged.

"Yes, being a vamp is not all about transforming from human to vamp and vice versa, there is more and it only gets even better the more you realize them and them right because you are special." She said,

I nodded and asked another question,

"Are there really other creatures like a globin, wolverine, witches, wizards and fairies?"

"Have you seen any?" She asked, rolled her eyes and shook her head at the same time.

"No…. Not really…. But I have seen one, not a human one, though." I said to her and hoped she would ask me 'who or what is it?'

"What do you mean?" She asked instead.

Whatever.

"A guardian angel, mine," I replied to her.

"Hmmm, I already know and believe that angels exist, but I don't know about a guardian angel." She said,

"We are just opposite, I don't know about normal angels, but I know about a guardian angel, mine. I have seen mine." I said to her excitedly, giggling.

"Is there anything else you would like to ask me?" She asked.

"Why? Are you leaving?" I asked.

She shook her head and

"No, not yet but I will. Remember, I didn't freeze time." She said,

I cleared my throat and asked,

"How old are you?"

She was shocked but didn't look shocked, she made sure she didn't look shocked, she is very good at pretending.

"That's a tough question but I know and am sure that I am older than at least ten of your ancestors." She replied with a smile.

"Really?" I asked and she nodded and blinked multiple times.

"Yes, I should be around a thousand years old." She replied and smirked.

"Ah! Lier, you look like a fifteen-year-old girl in her thirties." I said to her,

She looked confused, even me, I was even more confused at what I said.

I didn't understand too, but I will definitely tell her what I meant if she asks.

"Eh?" She asked almost immediately.

I was a bit embarrassed, but I cleared my throat, smiled at her and said,

"What I meant by that is that you look both young and old at the same time. Wait, are you really a thousand-year-old?" I asked again.

"Sweet father." She said as she rolled her eyes and continued,

"Yes, that was what I just said and besides, I am not sure. Who knows, I might be exactly a thousand years old or older than that, so, that's it." She said and shrugged.

"Wow. So when is your birthday?" I asked.

"I don't know. I guess I have forgotten, I haven't celebrated it in more than six hundred years. To me, every day is my birthday, every day is special to me." She replied with a bright smile.

"Really?" I asked, I was very surprised at what she just said.

"Do you have any siblings?" I asked curiously, the more I listened to her story, the more interesting it got.

"Yes but once again, I can't tell you anything else." She said,

"Okay," I said and nodded.

"Are you disappointed?" She asked.

I shook my head and said,

"No." I lied, I just lied to her. Of course, who wouldn't be disappointed when one is not trusted? She doesn't trust me.

"I do trust you, but I don't trust humans." She clarified herself.

"But I am no longer a human, or…. am...I?

"You once were and I am afraid, you still are….a human." She said with a low tone.

"But I am a vampire too, just like you," I said to her,

"No, you are not." She said almost immediately that she almost interrupted me.

"What do you mean?....I….I...do…." I stammered but summoned courage again.

"I don't understand," I finally blurted.

"You won't and you will never understand because you are too human to do that." She said to me with a frown.

"I am sorry for asking too many stupid questions, for crossing the line." I apologized with my head bowed.

I have never bowed my head respectfully to anyone else before except my mom, my grandma and Mike, my stepdad.

I blamed myself for asking too many questions, but it wasn't my fault.
