I couldn't help but stare at Devon in awe. His words warmed my chest, and at that moment, I thought I was invincible because this man was there with me, sitting near me.
"Why do you care?" I blurted out what was going on in my mind for quite some time.
He didn't answer for a brief moment before he asked, "Don't you want me to care?"
"That's not an answer to my question. At the Green Lotus... you said you... will ruin me, teach me a lesson. So why are you helping me now with everything?"
He stood up from his place, and I thought he would flip again and walk out yelling at me. Instead, he came to sit beside me, where dad sat a few minutes before.
His eyes didn't leave mine, and no matter how much they intimidated me, I couldn't look away from them.
