"Okay. I will see it right away." Devon ended the call.
Mr Ortiz sensed the sudden shift in the air. Forgetting about his laugh, he asked, "Is there any problem? I smell tension here."
Devon glanced at me, silently asking if I was okay with involving the old man in the matter. Devon wouldn't have wasted a single second before spilling beans to him if it was concerning to him.
But this was about me, and he wanted to know if I would like Mr Ortiz to know about it.
I gave him a subtle nod before turning to Mr Ortiz. I took out the note from my bag and placed it in front of him. He stared at the piece of paper in confusion for a moment before he picked it up and read its content.
I could literally feel his body stiffening like a rock within a fleeting second, his face mirrored the line of his thoughts.
"What nonsense is this?" He demanded, and I was quite surprised to hear the protectiveness in his voice.
