DEVON
I stepped inside the bedroom to find Elena packing our bags. I tried to read her straight face but couldn't decipher her thoughts.
Sensing my lingering form in the door, she looked up and smiled.
"Is George here?"
I nodded before pushing myself to walk her way. I took the top she was folding from her hand and placed it down on the pile of clothes she had stuffed in the bag.
I took both her hands in mine, and staring deep into her eyes, I asked, "Do you really want to do this? You know I don't-"
"Devon!" She cut me midsentence. "We have talked about this before. I have thought well through this and given the circumstances this is the best thing we can do for our family."
"But they don't consider you as their family!" I argued, almost desperately to change her mind because the reality was that I was not ready to go again to that house.
Not when I knew Elena would suffer.
