ELENA
The darkness in front of my eyes slowly began to fade as light patches clouded my vision. With much effort, I forced my eyes open. But my eyelids felt like someone had placed tonnes of weight on them that kept pushing them close despite my efforts.
I closed them again, relaxing for a while, giving myself a few minutes where I had no thought on my mind. About five minutes later, I tried again, and this time, the attempt was easier.
I opened my eyes to the soft rays of sun seeping through the thin curtains. They were not harsh but gentle like the sun's rays on a winter morning.
For some reason, my lips stretched into a content smile. I tried to turn and get my phone out of habit, but a weight kept me pinned to the bed. Frowning in confusion, I looked down to see a muscular veiny strong hand curled around my stomach.
