"What's happening here?" My demanding voice startled Elena, and she quickly jumped away from the man who looked exactly like the boy I had seen in a picture in Elena's bedroom.
I didn't miss how his eyes hardened immediately, and his hand reached for hers protectively. But before his fingers could even graze her skin, I pulled her toward me. Ignoring him, I said, barely maintaining my calm.
"Where were you, Elena? I was looking for you everywhere. What took you so long? Come on, everyone is waiting at the table for us."
I made sure to run my fingers on the side of her face as I spoke. I didn't need to turn my head to see the other man watching us with confusion.
My hand froze when Elena's honey-coloured eyes darted toward him as she plastered an uneasy smile on her face. She had never acted like that before with me.
