So I continued, "Elena was too shy to admit her feelings. And I couldn't bear the longing glances she stole at me every time. So I stepped up and asked for her hand.
I know that I should have first come to you and asked for your permission, Mr Bell, but the situation was such that I had to propose to her then and there before she changed her mind about me."
I stifled my grin, seeing Elena's face turning beetroot coloured. She again pinched me in the back, giving me pleading look.
Perhaps I should just stop now.
Mr Bell was silent at first. He was still comprehending and grasping my words. But still, they sounded surreal to him.
"But... how is that... I mean..." He breathed to calm himself and gather his thoughts.
"Mr Sanders, please tell me if this is any kind of a joke. How did you fall for... this?" He threw a weird glance at his daughter, which left me speechless.
