I finally found the comfort of sleep in the early hours of dawn after wasting the rest of the night untangling the mess in my head.
I had just closed my eyes when my phone rang loudly, disturbing the quietness of my penthouse. I first ignored it, but after three more missed calls, I grumbled in annoyance before picking up the phone.
Christine's name flashed on the screen. What the heck?
I swiped the green button before placing the phone against my ear.
"I want to strangle you to death right now."
"Well... good morning to you too, Boss! Nice way of greeting your employee in the morning. Maybe I should try that with my Boss sometime."
I frowned, adjusting my head on the pillow.
"Have you called me so early to display your skills of sarcasm? Because if yes then I would love to display my skills of ruthelessness!"
I heard her chuckle before her voice turned serious.
"I couldn't sleep last night."
"Me too!" I confessed with a sigh.
