Chapter 46 - Agrath's Royal Academy Entrance Exams: Spiders dislike sunlight.

Calico: Sigh... Let's get this over with, Draven.

Draven: C'mon, I feel like your heart's not into it.

Calico: Fine then, I'll attack first!

[Calico used his threads to restrain Draven's arms and legs by tying them together.]

Draven: Oooh?

Calico: So...Did I win?

Draven: Heh. Not quite.

[Draven effortlessly broke out of the threads.]

Calico: Tch!

[Draven dashed towards Calico and took a swing at calico with the wrapped sword it couldn't go down.]

Draven: Huh? Woooaaah!

[Calico set up springy see-through threads where he was standing so when Draven came close and swung his sword, it ejected him backward.]

[Draven did a backflip whilst in mid-air to stop the inertia, he landed on his feet near the end of the ring.]

Draven: Phew, that was close. You're tricky.

Draven's POV

Let's see what you've got! !

Draven's eyes glowed goldenly.

Thread Magi. Calico ruren, 17 years old, High agility, and his magic signature is also high but not tremendous, other than his agility he seems average in everything else but he's hiding a special skill and I'm seeing lots of different magical signatures from him that he's suppressing...Even his own.

Also, his body doesn't seem all the way normal...That's rude but it's what I see.

Looking at this much of he's info feels like prying so I better not squint to see any more than I need to.

I'll just use my eyes to find an opening and knock him out of the ring.

Draven: Let's get back to it!

[Calico didn't say a word and was just staring drowsily at Draven.]

Draven: Hey! No sleeping! Our match can't be that boring, could it?!

Calico: Huh?? Uh, yeah, yeah, sure. [Yawns] Where were we?

[Draven ran at him again but this time proceed with caution. He uses his to look at the magical signatures of Calico's threads if he couldn't see them physically.]

Draven's POV:

I can see the threads, they're shining white to represent the mana I see.

[He already had pre-set threads, Heh, all I have to do is avoid them.]

[Draven ran through the ring in an unusual manner that confused the crowd but from his perspective, this was the only clear path to Calico.]

He reached him instantly.

Calico: You can see them?!

[Draven swung his sword horizontally,

Calico backflips to dodge the attack.

Whilst in mid-air...]

Draven's POV:

Finally a chance! He can't dodge in midair!

[Draven concentrated magic on his palm and shot a light-based blast at calico from behind.]

[Before the light attack could touch him, Calico grabs a hold of his threads and quickly pulls himself to the ground evading Draven's shot without directly looking at it.]

Calico: Phew, that was an even closer one.

Draven: How'd you know I was gonna attack like that?

Calico: I don't know, it just happened? How'd you know where my threads were?

Draven: I don't know either, probably just happened too.

Draven's POV

His reaction time is no joke.

[Draven's attack hit the roof of the dome and shone a bright light.]

[They both look up at the slightly blinding light.]

Calico: AHHHH, my eyes!!

Draven: I-it wasn't that bright.

[Calico rolled around on the ground in pain due to the pain of seeing the brightness of Draven's failed attack.]

***********************

Aiden: Huh? What happened? It wasn't that bright...fil, hehe.

Akeru: What's wrong with Mr. Calico?

Aiden: I don't know, maybe the light hurt him more cos he's one of those closed-eyes characters or something.

Akeru: Huh?

Aiden: Nevermind.

[Everyone was wondering why Calico went down to such a mediocre glow of light.]

*****************************

[Back in the dome]

Draven: I'm sorry is something wrong with your eyes?

[Calico staggered to stand up and Draven saw his eyes were swollen red.]

Calico: Yeah, I'm very sensitive to light. You were the worse person I could have fought.

Draven: Oh, I'm sorry about that.

Calico: No need for apologies I'll probably be fine in a few hours.

Draven: Can you still fight?

Calico: Heh, you wanna finish me off completely, huh?

Draven: At least let's end it so they won't think you're weak.

Calico: Sigh... I can fight without my eyes too so yes we can continue.

Calico closed his eyes and then tied a blindfold on them.

Draven: A little over the top but sure...

[Calico runs towards Draven and Draven the same, they both meet in the middle but he tried to swing his arm but it was stuck, Draven couldn't swing his sword because there were threads that kept him from being unable to pull it down.]

Draven: This again?! How do I keep falling for this?

[Calico punched Draven in the stomach and he flew back, Draven used his legs and his other arm to reduce friction through sliding.]

Calico: I'm guessing barehanded I don't have an advantage.

Draven: Your resourcefulness is one too many advantages already.

Calico: I... appreciate that.

Draven's POV

I could see the threads he already set, why couldn't I see the one that caught my hand?

Another trick?

Calico: Stop focusing on the brighter stuff and you'll be fine.

Draven's POV

What does he mean by...Oh!

[With his active he squinted and saw very faint magical signatures of threads all around him, they were more threads than he saw previously.]

Draven: So that's it huh? This whole place has threads set up everywhere— like a spider's nest and he can move freely within it—Huh?! Where'd he go?!

Calico: Up here Draven.

[Draven looked up and saw Calico standing invertedly on the roof of the dome....he was just hanging upside down with his leg on a thread.]

Draven: Staying above me won't help you.

Calico: You can't fly.

[Draven freed himself from the thread's hold.]

Draven: < Luminous slicer>

[Draven infused light magic into his wrapped sword and let off a thin slice of light magic that cut through numerous threads. Draven kept on slicing and slicing until he could no longer see the faint threads glows.]

Draven: Woah!

[Calico released his foot from the threads and fell down from the dome, mid-fall he combined many on his thread into a whip and swung at Draven.]

[Draven used his sword to block the whip's lash then Calico smiled as the whip wrapped around Draven's sword.]

He landed on his feet.

Draven: Wow, you're cool when you're serious.

Calico: Heh, I'll admit I'm having fun but I miss my eyes.

Draven: I'm curious about how you're even capable of doing this without them.

Calico fell silent.

Calico: ...I can feel magic easily that's all, that's how I can see.

[Draven's sword was still tied with Calico's whip.]

Calico: Tch! I don't have the physical strength to pull you forward.

[Draven shot balls of light at Calico but he dodged them, but one hit his arm.]

[He let go of the whip.]

Calico: Argh!

Calico's POV

I've gotten a lot of Light magic essence from him, but I'd like to know who'll win between us both.

Calico: *Huff-Huff* I'm starting to run very low on magic.

Draven: I've not even started using magic.

Announcer: Two minutes have passed since you both started, you have one more minute before we call this match null. Be quick.

Everyone: Shhhhhh!!

[The crowd hushed the Announcer in anticipation of what was going to happen next. To them this was the most exciting match of the whole day.]

Announcer: I-I'm sorry. (But I'm the announcer)

[Draven used a bit of fire magic to burn the whip to ash.]

Calico: I'm not done yet!

[The battle went on longer than the allotted time but anytime the Announcer tried to call it over the crowd shushed him.]

[He was upset, he nearly cried a couple of times.]

Calico: Looks...like I'm out of ideas, Heh, *Huff-Huff.*

[He wore a satisfactory smile on his face.]

Draven: I....don't believe you. *Huff-Huff*

[Draven's hands on his Knees were out of breath as well, they were both covered in bruises from the other's attack.]

Calico: Hup!

He jumped up.

Calico: One last play just came into my head, and it'll be the last one.

Draven: I knew you weren't done. Heh, bring it on!

[Calico used the last of his magic to make another whip.]

[He ran around the ring whipping Draven as he circled, but Draven blocked all his attacks and shot hyper-fast light magic orbs at him but he dodged as well.]

[Then Draven made multiple light balls at once since he was cautious about getting close to Calico he shot them at once but Calico managed to dodge most but not all, three of the multiple orbs hit him and he fell to the ground.]

[He wasn't moving...]

Draven: I knocked him unconscious, Hey Announcer drop the ver—Woah!

Where'd that boulder come from?!

[Draven dodged a huge rock that came from behind. He turned his head to the side of where he was and heard a small laugh coming from Calico.]

Calico: So close, I was hoping to throw you outside with that.

[Draven smiled.]

Draven:Heh, I knew I couldn't be too cautious around you. I thought you were out of magic.

Calico: Call it a last reserve.

[Calico pulled another string and another boulder flew at Draven at higher speed but he easily cut it in half.]

[It turns out that the threads were under immense tension and when Calico pulled on it, it released that tension by pulling a chunk of ground with it, Yes, Calico's threads are that strong.]

[He pulled numerous at once and herds of rocks headed at Draven omnidirectionally.]

[Draven used his wrapped sword to cut the many large boulders into small pieces easily, the last one came from behind, Draven spinned and caught it one-handed.]

Draven: Oh yeah, I forgot I could do this.

[Calico and the Audience looked in shock and surprise at Draven's monstrous strength.]

[Draven blew up the boulder with light magic, the impact of the explosion was so large it pushed Calico out of the ring.]

Calico: Argh—Oof! H-huh?

He landed on Aiden who stood there to catch him.

Calico: T...hanks...

He passed out.

Aiden: Ouch! My back! Get off me! Anyways Congratulations both of y'all did great.

Announcer: Due to a ring out the winner is Draven Lucius Apollo!

[The girls cheered heavily for him, you could hear the same screaming "Sir, Draven is amazing!" "Sir, Draven is fantastic!"]

[Draven walked out of the ring and headed towards Aiden.]

Draven: Hey, how is he?

Aiden: He's alright he just fell asleep...ON ME!! Get him off me!

[Draven burst into laughter.]

Draven: I hope we all get into this school together.

Aiden: Yeah, Yeah.

[He carried Calico off him and they went back to their stands.]

[Meanwhile in Aser's Stand]

Aser: Has Draven gotten weaker? How could he have a difficult time with that nobody?

Breeze's POV:

Oh my, I knew smart men were attractive but Calico is quite superb, Such capabilities, from smarts to battle strength to resourcefulness and he's easy on the eyes. Oh too bad he's a commoner.

[She had a coy smile on her face which Aser noticed.]

Aser: Hm...

[Jack looked at the match with much despair in his eyes.]

Jack's POV:

How could that peasant who was scared of me in the forest be the same one to take on Draven on equal terms, who even I couldn't defeat?!

[He put his arm on the guard rail and squeezed it tightly.]

Jack's POV

Even peasants are surpassing me! It's not fair!

[He accidentally froze the guard rail and broke it with his tight grip.]

[Brian who watched this whole thing was silently laughing from behind.]
