Chapter 30 - A Little Help Part 3

"Alright now that all the paperwork is taken care of let's get you some nanites!" Regi said excitedly as he compiled the papers that Dax had just signed and walked over to a storage area. "So where do you want the shot? In the arm, stomach, or butt?"

"Wait." Lana said. "You said you blew up the last time, right?"

"Well, the room was charred, yes." Dax replied.

"Alright, so we will be taking this to the bunker!" Lana said.

"I ever so do love the bunker!" Regi said. "We honestly don't use it enough, you know."

"Well, it's been a while since we have needed it." Lana said.

"Why do you have a bunker?" Dax asked, slightly concerned by the fact.

"We also develop weapons; it is what our family is known for actually." Lana said. "I can't believe your mother hasn't told you anything about your legacy."

"It isn't important." Helen chimed in. "What is important is we take care of my son."

"Okay, okay." Lana said. "Follow us to the bunker."

Lana and Regi went back upstairs, and Helen and Dax followed them. They led them through the house and back out into the backyard. It was massive, at least one hundred acres. They walked until they reached the shoreline of a large pond. Along the banks was a concrete structure with large thick steel reinforced corners.

"Behold the bunker!" Regi said. "Been far too long since we used it. We have yet to make a weapon strong enough to crack that nut so to speak. The concrete is five-foot thick with steel reinforcement every six inches. Yes sir, no matter what kind of bomb we have set off inside the bunker withstands it."

"Well, it is also reinforced with seven different force fields that counter pretty much any type of force." Lana added. "We built a few more of these bad boys for the government. The VIPs always want a safehouse or two."

"So, you make weapons and bunkers for the government?" Dax asked. "So, you are like an arms dealer."

"That kind of hurts, coming from family." Lana said. "Helen, you really need to fill your son in. I mean, there's a chance he could… not survive this. I think he should know where he came from at least before he risks his life."

"Fine." Helen said. "Dax, my family… We are special."

"He is definitely going to need more than that." Lana said.

"I am getting to it!" Helen said.

"It's okay mom, you don't have to tell me if it hurts you." Dax said. "It isn't like this knowledge will change who I am, or what I need to do."

"Now you have to tell him." Lana said. "I wish my child was that mature."

"I have a cousin?" Dax asked.

"You do, they just started the academy as well." Lana said. "He is in S class, of course. So, you probably didn't meet him. I am sure if your nanites got toasted they stuck you right in F class."

"That they did." Dax said. "But I do have one S class friend. I will ask her if she knows him. What is his name?"

"Ron." Lana replied. "I am surprised you have a S class friend; things must be different from our days in the academy."

"It's her daughter." Helen said.

"Her?" Lana asked.

"Her." Helen replied.

"Oh! Her!" Lana said. "So, she is rebelling hard against the old bitch then? Good for her."

"Look Dax, I want to tell you about my family." Helen said. "Long ago, your great grandfather was one of the greatest generals this country has ever seen. He single handedly won a war that would have completely wiped out our way of life and culture, with nothing more than his wits and tactics.

Later he was elected as president and became one of the most beloved leaders this country has ever known. His son, your grandfather, my father, continued in his footsteps. He became a great general as well, but never ran for public office. His father told him how horrible and corrupt the government was.

That no matter how hard you tried, you couldn't change anything. Corporations control everything from the shadows. Using this knowledge, my father started his own corporation after his time in the military.

As Lana said, my family makes weapons, armor, and structures for the military and government. This has given us close ties to the higher ups, and we can use our corporation's influence to get small favors. That is how I got your father his job.

I didn't want you to be burdened by this. I just wanted you to have a happy normal life without the stress of such a powerful corporation influencing you. I thought it would give you a happier life if you didn't know. I am sorry that I kept it from you so long. I hope you will forgive me."

"I know you were just thinking about me." Dax said. "Don't worry mom, I had a great childhood and wouldn't want it to change in any way."

"I am so relieved to hear that." Helen said. "How ever did I get so lucky to get you as my son." She said as she gave her son a hug.

"I didn't know it bothered you so much growing up sis." Lana said.

"Being the eldest daughter of such a powerful family, how could it not cause a ton of stress?" Helen replied. "I just wanted out, I wanted to have a normal family away from the stress and for my son to grow up in a normal home. That's why I married for love, even though dad had the S class only rule."

"I get it." Lana said. "When you were essentially exiled, all that stress went to me. Luckily, I had Regi to help me along the way. He has really been my rock."

"I am happy that you found someone you can count on." Helen said. "I really am."

"Well, if we talk about this anymore, I might get emotional, and no one wants that!" Lana said. "So, let's get Dax some nanites!" She took the needle from Regi and gave Dax a shot in the arm before pushing him inside the bunker and closing the door quickly behind him. "And now we wait."
