Chapter 18 - Assignment One Part Twelve

Fey rushed to the cave where she last saw Dax fighting the slime. When she got to the cave she quickly went inside to look. After scanning the cave, she saw Dax unconscious on the cave floor. "Dax!" She yelled frantically. "Wake up!"

The spiked slime was inches away from impaling Dax with its spines. Fey Jumped down landing hard on the cave floor and scraping her knee in the process. She tossed one of her daggers at the slime and it bounced off, twirling until it implanted itself into the ground. This did however change the slime's target, it immediately started inching in Fey's direction instead of Dax.

Fey ran over to her dagger and picked it up. She studied her surroundings for something, anything that could help her. On the cave ceiling were stalagmites, she did a bit of quick math in her head and threw her daggers at the stalagmite over the slime. Her aim was true, and the super sharp blades easily sliced through the rock.

The large stone spike landed directly onto the slime and shattered, burying the slime in a pile of rubble. Fey then rushed over to Dax. She bent down and slapped his cheek repeatedly. "Wake up Dax!" She yelled again. "We need to go!"

Dax remained unresponsive.

"Shit." She said, pulling out her phone. She did not want to call for aid, but it did not seem like she was going to have a choice in the matter anymore. She unlocked her phone, and a no service message filled her screen. "Figures." She said with a small chuckle as the stress of the situation was beginning to get to her.

"RAWR!" Another loud roar of the bull monster echoed above the cave. Its cries of pain had ended, and the ground shook with its ominous footsteps as it approached. High ranking monster species have a natural healing factor. This beast had clearly fully healed from their earlier encounter.

"It's a damn A rank." Fey said. She switched to shaking Dax violently now in an attempt to rouse him. "Come on Daxy!" She pleaded. "I don't want to abandon you here Daxy!"

Her daggers were stuck to the roof above her, and Dax's sword was completely broken. If the monster showed up now, she would be defenseless against it. "Dax!" She yelled again.

The bull monster burst into the cave and made a bee line straight to Fey. It picked her up and started to squeeze.

She kicked and punched at the beast, all while yelling in intense pain. "Let me go!" She yelled.

The bull monster seemed to find sadistic joy in torturing her as it slowly increased its grip on her.

"Let go!" Fey cried out again, tears running from her eyes. Her voice strained from the immeasurable pain she was experiencing.

"Enough!" A deeper voice yelled from Dax's body. Faster than anyone could see his body moved. He was now standing next to the bull beast's arm that was holding Fey. He moved his arm in a chopping motion and removed the beast's arm from his body. Blood shot out by the gallon and the beast yelled out in pain as it dropped its mace and grabbed what was left of its other arm.

Fey was barely conscious at this point. She looked up at Dax and could not believe how different his appearance was. His hair was standing on end, his eyes were pure white that glowed with immense power, and lightning arced from his body. "Dax?" She asked, not quite sure it was actually him.

The beast could sense that it was outmatched and ran out of the cave. Dax Jumped after it. As he watched the beast run, he called down fifty lightning strikes that all converged on the beast at once. The loud thunderclap's shockwave uprooted trees in the general area. When the dust settled there was nothing left of the beast, only ashes blowing in the wind.

After the beast was slain Dax's hair and eyes returned to normal and the lightning stopped arching from his body. He closed his eyes again and fell face first onto the ground.

The sudden exit from the bull beast caused a ramp of rumble at the entrance of the cave. Fey was able to crawl out.

She saw Dax's unconscious body at the cave's entrance and a large, scorched area with uprooted trees. "Thank you…" She said as she collapsed next to Dax. "Thank you Daxy…" With her last bit of strength, she tried her phone again. It had service this time. She quickly dialed her father. He picked up immediately.

"What is it dear?" He asked. Fey was trying to form words but was too weak. "Fey? Are you alright? Answer me, Fey?!"

"H... e… l… p…" Fey said barely as loud as a whisper.

"Understood." Her father said as he hung up the phone.

He and his squad were standing outside of the cave that Dax had told him about the day before.

"Secure the perimeter." He said. "No one goes in until I return."

"Sir?" One of his squad members asked.

"I have some personal business that I must attend to." He replied. "Just guard this place, actually erect a forcefield. I will be back later to inspect your work."

"Yes sir!" They all replied in unison.

He pulled up an app on his phone and it pinpointed Fey's location. "Why are you outside the safety of the city?!" He yelled out. "I am coming, baby!" He hopped on his hoverboard and flew as fast as it would carry him, all the time keeping his eye on Fey's location.
