"Do your lips also get red when you blush?"
"Hmm?"
"Your lips, they are so red, like cherry red." He explained fixing his eyes on my lips. I knew why they were red, I was biting my lips so hard when I had my face buried in his chest.
"Do you wanna kiss me?" I smiled when I asked him.
"Can I? I mean....if we kiss....the alcohol, you are gonna taste the alcohol, do you...." He was stuttering with his words but I knew what he was trying to say.
"Do it," I told him, I surely didn't mind if he tasted like alcohol.
He didn't hesitate the moment I said those two words, he just went for my lips, bringing me closer and kissing me deeply even though it wasn't a tongue kiss. He was right, he did taste like alcohol but it was okay.
Our lips separated and he had this satisfied smile on his lips.
"Julie, you are....."
"What?" I asked when he didn't finish his sentence, he looked like he was trying to think of something real quick.
"Help me out, what's a synonym for pretty, I feel like I've told you that too many times and it might be boring." I chuckled, shaking my head because this was definitely a drunk act.
"Beautiful." I helped him with a word.
"Beautiful, yes! Why didn't I think of beautiful? My beautiful Julie."
"You didn't think of it because you are drunk."
"I'm not drunk."
"You are."
"Okay, maybe. Maybe I am."
"No maybe, you are drunk," I told him.
"Just a little drunk, just this little." He brought his thumb and index finger so close to each other to show me how not-so-drunk he was. (🤏)
I laughed when he did that.
He suddenly took two steps down the stairs and I wondered why he did so until I saw Nick walk in and close the front door behind him. He did know when Nick was coming. I smiled at him and got a wink from him.
Nick came up to where he was. He looked haggard and he smelt so much of alcohol, I could smell it from two steps away at the top of the stairs where I stood. How much alcohol did he have to be smelling like that? Uche didn't even smell like that.
"You are gonna want to shower, your mum is coming back early today, I don't know what you both were thinking getting drunk," I said closing my nasal cavity with my thumb and index finger, that was how bad he smelt, I couldn't just help but wonder how Uche was standing there, so close to him.
Nick ignored what I said and just turned to Uche.
"Are you....are you gonna be staying here till my mum comes? For dinner?" He asked Uche.
"No, I'm not sure I can eat anything tonight, I might just throw up. I just wanna lay my head down, get some sleep if possible."
"Oh. So why did you come here then, you should have just gone to your house directly, I thought you were gonna...you know stay or something."
Uche gave me a look when Nick said that, he came to see me, that was why he came in here instead of going to his house directly.
"Yeah, I should be going. Goodnight." He patted Nick on the back.
"Goodnight man." Nick hiccuped.
"Goodnight Julie." Uche smiled at me before going downstairs.
Half an hour after Uche left, my aunt came home from work. I stood at the top of the stairs as she locked the front door and kept her bag on one of the couches in the living room.
She went straight to the kitchen and checked the pots, they were empty, she also checked the microwave and shook her head.
"Nick?!" She called out from the kitchen. I looked over to Nick's room door, he didn't answer, he was probably deep asleep.
"Nick?!!" My aunt called coming up the stairs as she called for the second time.
"Welcome, aunt." I greeted her when she got to where I was. She just smiled.
"Where is Nick? Is he home?" She asked and stood, waiting for my answer.
"Yeah, he is in his room. He is surely home, why wouldn't he be home, it's past 8." I laughed awkwardly, hoping I wasn't giving too much information to get her suspicious or anything.
"He has been out late till 1 am before, it's why I asked. Did you eat?"
"Yeah." I nodded vigorously. Mannnnn, I was bad at lying. I wasn't hungry but I didn't eat either, I was lying because Nick was probably going to be chewed off by her if I said no and I didn't want that. I don't want to be the reason he has problems with his mum.
"Okay. I asked Nick to make dinner for you both, I thought he didn't do what I asked."
"He did!". Lying was hard.
"Okay. Why are you still up when Nick's asleep? He is, right? That must be why he didn't answer when I called."
"Yeah, I think so. I was about to go to sleep when I heard you at the door. I guess I'll go back to sleeping now, goodnight." I just said and went into my room, closing the doors. I heaved a sigh of relief the moment I closed the door and was alone in my room. I was a bad liar and I knew it.
