The words were not strange to him. He wasn't that big of a reader but the story about the power magician Merlin and the King of Britannia had somehow managed to catch the fancy of everyone at a time.
It was a novel that was later adapted into a series. He was part of the novel readers before the movie came to be. And of course, no one knew he read novels. He wasn't a big fan of them, but sometimes he gets bored.
That was how the word came alive to him. Mage, magic, spells. Judging things based on the knowledge he had of magic from the novel, it was a complicated thing where the magician would have to find catalysts.
Spells couldn't be successfully cast without verbatim. He hated the idea, it was too much of a hassle.
