Chapter 44 - Sense of Responsibility

Ever since Krishna entered the car, she was quiet.

Jerry couldn't resist sneaking peeks at the rearview mirror to gauge his passenger's mood while driving the car at an even pace: not quick or slow.

He observed her face was solemn, and sometimes her brows furrowed. Hence, he could not shake off his nosiness.

"Is everything okay, Miss Krishna?"

It intrigued him to find out what had happened. After George Graham's men interrogated him, he was keen to know Krishna's background because his employer directly assigned him to protect her.

However, he could not fathom what was playing in her head, so he casually queried his quiet passenger.

Krishna was snapped back to her senses after she heard Jerry speak. However, she didn't listen to it clearly.

"Oh, sorry. I missed that," she said, embarrassed after realizing she had only ignored Jerry.

Jerry smiled, full of understanding. "Are you okay, Miss Krishna? You don't look well."

"I'm fine, Jerry. Thanks for the concern." She smiled to assure the chauffeur.

"Well, how's your dinner meeting? Did you enjoy their food?" Jerry asked further. He remained chatty to lighten up the gloomy atmosphere inside the car.

Krishna nodded and replied with honesty. "Lovely. It was on top of the world."

"Great…" Jerry beamed, but after she saw the distant look in his passenger's eyes; thus, he dropped the thought of lengthening the conversation. He was discreet; hence, he understood his passenger preferred her space.

Indeed, Krishna's thoughts wandered somewhere.

Ding!

A phone chimed, showing she had received a notification from a particular app. Krishna pressed the notification and was brought to her Instagram App.

She was tagged on ANNA COLLECTION's official account. She just made her latest posts.

[The Goddess Limited Edition comes in various cuts and styles. Please, check out my latest designs by visiting our website or make an appointment to see me personally to customize your gown in your preferred colors and choose your favorite gemstones! We carefully embroidered our gems….]

Anna posted a lengthy caption describing her latest craft.

Krishna, on the other hand, her eyes lingered on the woman in the photo, who possessed a goddess-like beauty.

Numerous comments were left on ComSec about the model, commenting on how it was great for Anna's clothing line and deserving the title The Goddess Collection.

In fact, a few known fashion accounts reposted Anna's post on different social media platforms.

Some artists borrowed it and drew a painting out of her face. Others edited the picture, and Krishna became Athena and Hera. Some were using her face and inserted it into Venus or Aphrodite statues.

Even famous public figures inquire about Anna, and where she found her model.

Krishna read the comments and was overwhelmed by how the netizens warmly accepted her.

However, concern sprouted deep down in her chest. What if these people would no longer like her after learning that she already has a son and doesn't know the father?

Although in this era, most netizens don't mind if you are married and have children as long as you show off your curves and flaunt your perfect figure; however, some would love to dig into one's background and throw stones at being such a woman.

Contemplating, Krishna heaved a worried sigh. She prayed that everything would go well in her career and she would not regret signing that contract.

Fighting her anxiety, she lowered her gaze and lingered on the woman displayed on her phone screen.

She could not believe until now that the woman in the photo was her. 'With Godmother Donny's miracle hands, he did my makeup exquisitely perfectly.'

Her long hair was finely combed behind her head, and its length rested on her back, down her slender waist.

After a while, she scanned her photo album and chose the three best photos that her boss had taken.

She posted them, thanking Anna, PRISCILLA, and ROBERT BLOCK's latest collection, who sent her a pair of silver high heels she wore tonight.

Ding!

A new notification arrived.

Krishna was still in a trance when she looked at her phone. Then, her eyes widened dramatically as her mouth opened when the notification was about a money transfer.

After reading the content, it shocked her to learn that George wired her money, which was a significant amount!

[Why did you send me money?] She didn't want to delay her inquiry; thus, Krishna hurriedly typed on her phone.

[I'll give you more bonus when you behave during the party.]

Instead of replying to her question, George reminded her. Krishna wrinkled her forehead, and her left brow lifted upward.

'Am I a five-year-old to be reminded?' she mumbled while replying to George.

[It's too much already. I should return some amount.]

[Really? Do you know how others would even demand more? But here you are complaining when I am generous with your service.]

Reading the new reply, Krishna's face flustered. She felt uncomfortable the more she read the message over again.

'It felt like I had a sugar daddy!'

[Well… I'm not like them. I know my talent fee is not yet high since I am just a novice.]

Krishna complained because she was afraid Crazy George might have something in mind, and she would become his bait for whatever he was planning during the party.

On the other side— it surprised George after Krishna wanted to return half of the money he had wired.

After he learned about her plans to build a comfortable home for his son, a sense of responsibility shrouded his heart.

Thus, even secretly, he wanted to be a committed father to his son.

As Krishna was being honest, George could not overlook the fact that his baby's mama was a wonderful person.

[Alright. If you return the money, you must repay every cent three times the original amount I wired.]

Typing this message, George didn't notice that his lips pursed into a smile.

Meanwhile, Krishna was agape, reading the reply.

'Is he for real?'

Krishna was utterly shocked after George wired even more money into her bank account, leaving her flabbergasted.

'He's indeed crazy! I was convinced he had a split personality! Why is he so nice to me so suddenly?' she mused, then mumbled, "Should I thank him?"

Jerry tried to listen keenly but failed to distinguish what Krishna had uttered.

Once again, he glanced in the rearview mirror; then, he caught a suspicious presence as he was about to retract his gaze.

"Miss Krishna, please tighten your seatbelt."

"Hah?" Krishna was immersed in exchanging messages with George that she didn't understand what Jerry was saying. "What did you say?"

"I think there are cars following us."

"What?" Krishna turned around—she then saw a few cars following them. "How could you say that they were following us?"

"There are a lot of cars that already overtake us. But those two cars were following us steadily, matching our speed," Jerry explained.

"Why would they follow us? Are they your enemies?"

"Oh. I don't think so, Miss." Indeed, he was careful not to make enemies but ensured he could befriend as many influential people in this city as possible.

"But I don't know anyone, so why would they come after me?" Confused, Krishna muttered.

"I'm not sure, Miss. If they were after you, even though you don't have an enemy, it was probably your boyfriend's enemy."

"My boyfriend? But I don't have a…." Just then, something occurred to her.

'Could it be that guy, Leonard Greene? Has he mistaken me for George's girlfriend? After all, rumors are circulating already.'

The scene in the elevator and then a worried look on George's face resurface in her memory.

Krishna was in deep thought when her phone rang. The caller ID was flashing Rowan's name.

"Hello, Rowan? Ahh!"

"Hello, Krishna? What happened?" On the other side of the call, Rowan panicked after hearing Krishna's piercing scream, followed by a loud thud.

"Hold on tight, Miss!"

Rowan's worry worsened when he heard the chauffeur's reminders.

"What is going on? Krishna, answer me!"
