"You heard me clearly," Camilla pressed on.
Krishna furrowed her brows after confirming that Camilla truly meant what she said.
"Why did you have to mention my fiance, George? Is it your habit to slander even the dead now, Camilla?"
Camilla did not retort but pursed her lips.
After a brief silence, she told Krishna,
"I'll be honest with you now, Krishna. I have never liked your fiance since the very beginning. But you fell in love with him, and I don't want to break your heart. He is your first love, after all. So I keep silent. Then, his death is a heavenly blessing in disguise."
"What did you say, Camilla?" Krishna tried to suppress the chill that ran down her spine, but she could no longer stop her body from trembling. "How could you say that to the man I love? I don't mind if you don't respect me now, but at least give the dead some peace!"
Camilla lowered her gaze. She picked up her glass and gulped the content. When she did not speak, Krishna added,
"You were trying to change the topic, Camilla. But I'm here not to speak about other things, especially about me. Now answer my question. Florian is married. How could you be a home wrecker? Do you know that he and Stella have a daughter? You witness how painful it is to grow up without parents. When Cecil committed that, her children were…."
"You don't know everything, Krishna, and it is better that way," Camilla snapped.
"Don't confuse me, Camilla. I'm seriously telling you this. Break up with Florian, please... If he and Stella don't have a loving marriage, then don't be the reason for their divorce. You are better than this!"
"I am actually happy if that happens," Camilla uttered like she was only talking about how wonderful the night was.
"It seems like you are no longer the Camilla I know." Her heart filled with sadness and disappointment.
"You are right, Krishna. You don't know everything about me, and you don't have to know this side of me. It will be for your safety."
Krishna sighed in her heart after Camilla gave her another riddle.
"Are you doing this for Cecil, or did you truly fall in love with a married man?" She doesn't want to answer this question by her presumption; thus, she expressed it for Camilla to at least explain a little to her.
"Before I answer your question, let us eat first. I ordered your favorite desserts. You have been holding back on your diet since breastfeeding your son, George." Camilla got up and strode away.
Alone in that spacious room, it drew her eyes toward the garden below. Then her gaze traveled to the magnificent scenery before her.
Aphrodite Palace was erected near a cliff in the southwestern part of the city.
Like Ocean View Country Club, there is beautiful ocean scenery.
Tonight, the moon is shining exceptionally brightly. Its moonshine kissed the saltwater, leaving it sparkling as the tide made a smooth wavelength on the surface.
How beautiful…
Dining in a luxurious restaurant like this is a high society privilege.
'It could be what life Camilla wanted to live, the reason she embraced the title as a mistress of a wealthy family?'
She could not stop having this thought playing in her mind. 'But why does Camilla have to badmouth my dead fiance, George?'
It's been over two years since he died, and until now, she could not move on completely.
Soon, Camilla came back. Standing on the door frame, she was on the phone, and Krishna guessed it was Florian who she talked to the way how sweet her voice was.
"Alright. I will find you later."
It was what Krishna heard before Camilla hung up. Then she looked over her shoulder and spoke. After that, three servers entered the room, pushing food carts.
Krishna had only observed them in silence while Camilla busied typing on her phone.
'I wonder whether Florian has known me as Camilla's friend. If so? Why did he act like he didn't know me? I don't understand what is going on anymore. The Lives of the wealthy are too complicated. I never dreamt of having one. It is better to stay poor than play the rich families' game.'
In the past two days that she has hung out with the Graham family—aside from having enemies, she also discovers their complicated relationship.
Florian doesn't love his wife, but George likes her. However, Stella is crazy in love with the former and no one else she adores.
But because of this one-sided love of the three, two wanted to destroy the marriage.
The funny thing is George believes she is the mistress.
Gladly, she is not, so the guy could not use her as the reason that Stella and Florian got a divorce.
"Let's eat, Krishna," Camilla announced after the servers arranged the food at the dining table.
Krishna stood from the accent chair and strode toward the table. Then she occupied the chair opposite Camilla.
After sitting comfortably and placing a tablecloth on her lap, her eyes twinkled upon seeing the dishes on the table. Most of them were her favorite; thus, she didn't hold back.
"I missed my godson. I only met him twice."
Camilla suddenly brought up her son again. Though she had no plan to hide him; however, she was now in the spotlight.
She feared people would speak ill after they learned George had no father because she didn't know who she slept with on that unfortunate night.
That night, she commemorated George's first death anniversary. She went to Greece and thought she could accept that George was gone forever.
Yet, her heart was still mourning.
After throwing a bouquet of lavender into the sea that night, she dropped by an exclusive bar for a few drinks. But then, she should have remembered to take it easy.
She got drunk instead and didn't know what had happened the rest of that night.
Now, she is such a disgrace. What face could she show her son when he asks who his father is?
She could not take advantage of his fiance's name, implying him as George's father because she conceived him a year after he died. The people in her community would never believe it, so she could not lie.
Thinking about this, bitterness filled her chest. Krishna put down her cutlery and wiped her mouth after sipping her wine.
"Are you done?"
"I lost my appetite. Can we continue talking now, Camilla?" Krishna badly wanted to convince Camilla to stop her insanity.
Camilla has a promising future, unlike her, who got pregnant accidentally.
She could not just ask around with the identity of every man who came to the bar that night, then randomly point at someone after recognizing a little resemblance to her son, George.
How embarrassing to tell him — "It might be you, my son's father."
