Chereads / Sovereign Of Wrath: Rise Of The Demonic God / Chapter 4 - Paragon Magician

Chapter 4 - Paragon Magician

On entering, Zareth saw a young looking woman covered in a large black hood sitting on the other side of a petite table in the middle of the fair-sized room.

She had a golden monocle on one of her eyes, and was staring down at a round crystal orb the size of a pumpkin situated below her on the table.

The shiny orb was almost see-through, except for the countless cracks that appeared to be inside of it.

Freya sat down on a chair opposite to the woman, as Drufus stood beside her.

Without a moment's hesitation, the girl spoke uninterestedly as though she was a robot.

"Whoever is testing their magic affinity, please put your hand on the orb and let it rest there. It may take several seconds for the orb to do its job."

Zareth was around two month's old at the time, but his nerves had not grown enough for him to use his hands yet.

On top of that, Zareth's meridians - route channels that allowed magic energy to travel within and throughout ones body - had not developed at all, so he was not able to manually strengthen his limbs and joints either.

In the next second, Freya took Zareth's hand and placed it on the orb.

After a couple seconds, mechanical revving noises of a machine starting up began sounding in Zareth's head.

'Ah, so you are here at last...' He thought to himself.

*Ding* [System Rebooted!]

[Hello, welcome to the System of The Wrath Soverei-]

The system itself was cut off by its creator.

'Took you long enough. Now, just tell me the information you finally rebooted yourself up for.' Zareth said in his head impatiently.

[Fine...]

[Host currently retains affinity to all four magic elements. Wind of the green aura, Water of the blue aura, Fire of the red aura, and Earth of the brown aura.]

'Ah...'

"I want him to have a magic affinity, but it may be even better if he didn't you know. Then, I could train him to be a warrior just like myself!" Drufus suddenly said with anticipation and excitement written all over his face.

"Oh of course you would want to halt your son's potential in this world for your own gains, how selfish could you be!" Freya joked.

"Hey, you sure you're not saying that just because you want him to be a magician like you instead?" Drufus cleverly replied.

'Seems like depending on what I show, I can either be a grand mage who catches the attention of all who pray upon the sleeping dragon's within this world... Or, I can be a magicless warrior who slips under those dangerous gazes.'

Zareth had already made up his mind.

Eventually, the white crystal orb began to radiate a bright blue color.

"Water... and a deep connection at that." The young woman spoke with a hint of awe in her voice.

Suddenly, the orb then began changing color in front of everyone's eyes.

It first morphed into a vibrant red color.

"Fire?" The young woman spoke with a slightly confused expression.

She had never seen anything like this before in all her life of testing affinities.

Then, it turned into a brilliant green before once again becoming an earthy brown.

A small grin appeared on Zareth's face.

'Gaze's of mere mortals? Don't make me laugh.' He thought to himself.

The orb continuously switched between these four colors at increasing speeds, eventually forming a rainbow hue that began to stir the air around it into a soft breeze of wind.

Soon enough, the breezes became strong gusts that were powerful enough to pick up the hair on one's head, at which point Freya removed Zareth's hand from the orb.

Everyone in the room was utterly shocked.

"A- a paragon magician... One who holds control over each and every element that exists!" The young woman said in a haze before touching the golden monocle on her face.

On doing this, a wave reverberated throughout the glass of the monocle which was sent into the air.

"Ga, ga ga ga."

Zareth couldn't help but laugh at everyone's silly expressions.

"Test 208, Zareth Vanaheim, has passed his magic element affinity assessment with flying colors!" The voice of the lady at the front-desk spoke from the speakers.

A small cheer suddenly erupted in the waiting room that could be heard through the door.

It seemed that the anxious people in the waiting room had sort of placed their hopes in Zareth as the son the of Vanaheim family, and the son of the respected Duo of Twisting Love.

Drufus and Freya broke from their awe-fueled daze as the door of the testing room suddenly slammed open, revealing a flustered Reena who quickly barged into the room.

"A paragon magician? Did I understand that correctly!?" She yelled, walking over to the hooded young woman.

"You arrived... so quickly." The hooded woman questioned.

"Of course I did! As soon as I got your message from the monocle, I ran here as fast as I could!"

Reena then looked at Zareth.

"I must inform the general-manager! This is unprecedented." She said before looking at Freya.

"Your son is a genius! No, a one in a million years prodigy!"

Drufus looked as though he wanted to speak, but contained himself, also looking at Freya who looked to be in deep thought.

"No..." Freya suddenly said. "You are not informing anyone of anything."

"What do you mean!? Don't you want your son to be a top class adventurer?" Reena shouted in confusion.

"Stop!" Freya said before pausing. "It's too dangerous... This is too dangerous for Zareth!"

"What in the world are you tal---"

"You know the adventurers association as best as I do Reena! If you tell Eustas about this, he will not hesitate to inform the headmaster!"

On hearing this, Reena took a step back. She couldn't argue with what Freya was saying, as she knew it was the truth herself.

"They will take Zareth away from me! They will take my baby away at such a young age!" Freya yelled desperately.

If Zareth had gotten a single magic affinity, it would not have been such a big deal. He would have been known as a great genius and would have lived a successful life as a high-ranked adventurer.

However, now everything had changed.

If knowledge came out that Zareth was a paragon magician, then he would certainly be stripped away from Freya and Drufus, and would be trained rigorously to potentially become another usable puppet for the kingdom.

After all, no kingdom would waste such a talent. No, Freya knew that they would definitely use Zareth to benefit them beyond all measures.

"Fine..." Reena said with a hint of embarrassment in her voice, realizing that she had been careless to Freya's point of view.

"I will not inform any official of this, and we will mark Zareth's affinity as a powerful wind type... However, I cannot promise that the truth will not get leaked. That is not in my control."

"Thank you for understanding." Freya said before walking out of the adventurers building with Zareth in hand and Drufus following behind her.

After getting inside of the carriage, Freya laid her head against the side of Drufus' shoulder before beginning to silently weep.

Drufus put his hand on Freya's head and gently comforted her.

"It will all be okay Freya, trust me. No one will take our child away from us." He said, clenching his teeth.

Throughout all of this, Zareth had not really give a care in the world for what was going on.

Right now, he was in his own head.

'Alright, now that I have some peace and quiet... System, show me my stats.'
