Waking up I could feel that my mana reserves had been reduced by 10% I had been learning to not use my status as I couldn't always look at it in a fight. Curled up next to me Lilly with her hands wrapped around my neck. We were back in the labyrinth but we needed to get some info from the baron. I needed more than what I know from the library and anything that might be wrong after all History is written by the victor.
Getting geared up we were ready to leave. Next time I would have to remodel our rings to have the teleportation circle miniaturised but it would take days and a lot of mana. Teleporting to our 'home' we set out to the barony and after making it to a nearby hill even I had to marvel at the barony. Cascading walls made of what looked like high class bricks made out of a grey material. More advanced living standards than the capital could easily be seen with the barons home in the center working as the perfect outpost to react in all situations. Adventurers going in and out in small groups, must be for quests huh. Homes looked to be well built and the closer to the mansion we looked the more military in nature things became barracks and armoury's littered the streets but that didn't mean that there was no policing near the walls. Guard stations were strategically placed. I liked the place for its efficiency but there were too many people and I couldn't trust them.
Turrets and bastions were placed along the wall with guard towers and strong gates. I hadn't looked at the barony as I had my eyes closed to sense any presence that could harm us so looking at it was genuinely impressive but not perfect. Finally moving towards the city I turned to Lilly for her opinion.
"What do you think?"
"Impressive but there are problems and one of us alone could wipe out this place without issue"
Interesting. After facing off against that noble and seeing the general strength of people I had to agree that we were stronger than most Let's get this done so we can leave before I reach my limit.
Slowly walking towards the manor I looked at my surroundings. A line of weaponsmiths and armour smiths with a few tailers. It was a combat heavy city filled with adventurers and families. A city of power and wealth. So why didn't that bastard use them in the so called war they are facing. More questions keep piling up and too many holes in my information network.
Finally entering the manor we were greeted by that receptionist from yesterday with the maps.
"Oh young master and mistress I will inform the lord of the city to your arrival"
"Cheers"
I could feel him moving towards towards the stairs already so he probably felt us entering but what I felt was strange. There were multiple presences upstairs spread around. Aiz was walking downstairs in a luxury suit that seemed to be tweaked for battle. He looked more like a general going to war than a governing lord.
"Mrs Lilly Mr Ren I was worried that you had perished in the monster horde we saw in the direction of your new land."
"Mhm it was weaklings but they taught me a lesson and I have improved upon my combat. Were here for information from you not a library as information written can be modified. But I can tell when you lie to me about information you know. "
"Sure if that's what you want then please come upstairs to my meeting room"
"Speaking of meetings have we interrupted a meeting of yours it seems that there are multiple people upstairs?"
Hmm no it's only me and one other person upstairs why?
He's not lying. His heartbeat and breathing, the slight twitches and his eyes tell me everything. Putting myself on alert I followed him upstairs.
"So what do you want to know?"
"The capital and the heroes along with any events and the whereabouts of the 'dungeons' in the continent."
"That's... a lot of information but sure I owe you that much at least."
"The capital's name is Celestia reigned by his Highness Vasilias Agidyne IV, There are 16 cities in the continent as far as I am aware of onto the heroes, They are currently in a parade in the capital before they head to the dungeon to increase their strength-"
Losing my composure I let out my bloodlust before quickly reeling it back and absorbing it but not before it caused cracks in the walls.
"Apologies I have... bad memories of the heroes and to hear that they are parading... sent me over the edge."
Looking at me with sincerity he waved me off " No problem a lot of people have suffered at the hand of the king and his power to aid the heroes party."
"Anyway they seem to be heading here for the dungeon gate we hold and to gain some form of aid from us. Honestly I'm surprised due to the king not liking us and has ripped the status my family earned through generations to the point where he left us to defend the borders from the other countries and monster hordes."
"They're coming here? What dungeon do you have control over?"
"It is not an actual dungeon it is a gate to the depths of the great Magic Labyrinth where the monsters are immune to magical attacks and weak to physical damage. We use it to gain easy combat experience and mana when our soldiers and adventurers start out."
"Looks like we should delve into the labyrinth first to gain more combat experience. Has anyone made it to the bottom before??"
"Unfortunately no, The deeper you go the more resistant they get to physical attacks."
"Aiz this information has been inciteful and to repay you I will give you some insight. Information is a gift-" Pulling out my revolvers I got into a battle stance and aimed at a wall
"Get ready for a battle it seems you have intruders upstairs."
He immediately stiffened and shouted Adventurers battle stations.
Grabbing his giant greatsword from its resting spot next to himself he started chanting in a mumbled tone
Pulling the triggers of my revolvers I shot towards a wall, Blood splattered on the wall as a body materialised in front of the baron. A person dressed in a light black material with only holes for the eyes. Slowly more masked people materialised around us.
"State your purpose you are encroaching on land of the empire"
The baron and the adventurers that he had called upon let out a strong bloodlust. They were definitely seasoned adventurers and soldiers but the masked people did not falter.
A short masked person materialised their presence even weak to me holding out a scroll towards the baron
Slowly opening it he read through the contents his face paling the more he read Turning to us he replied shakily.
"It's the-"
