Chapter 11 - Adventurers Quest

~Lilly~

As I kept my case focused on the insect in front of us Ren let out a low growl as he straightened himself out. I had felt the killing intent that he had released before he arrived and I'm sure he did too but we had an objective to fulfill first. Ren's face lost all hints of emotion as he looked at the guild master.

"We want guild badges for both of us and a recommendation for the capital."

"That seems doable if you give me some time to prepare everything"

He looked so entertained at the guild master's response I knew what he was thinking and responded aptly.

"No form of test for our ranks or a quest?" I gave a subtle smirk.

"I don't think that is needed after how effortlessly you killed two of the highest ranking adventurers in town would you not say?" He seemed pissed that we killed them too bad it's their fault that they tried us.

"But In return I want you to complete a Job for me as you did kill my best adventurers before they could fulfill it."(GM)

"Your best was shit and we have no obligation to help you after what they pulled"(R)

A look of disgust warped his face from his previous smile but he quickly hid it behind another fake smile.

"Fine I'll sweeten the deal for you. I'll pay you handsomely for doing the Job and lend you a few connections if you finish a... bonus objective."(GM)

"Really now how surprising and here I thought it would be a quick in and out. I hope you know that if you are fucking with us I'll destroy the entire town and kill every person as slowly and as agonizingly as possible."(R)

"I understand... but I still want it done as soon as possible before the situation becomes too out of hand."(GM)

"Oh so what 'Job' is it that you need us to handle? You have my interest if it is that dire."(R)

"A wyvern has been destroying caravans coming from the Magic guardians labyrinth lately. Our best adventurers were going to set out to take care of the threat before you had arrived... Unfortunately."

"A wyvern.. shouldn't be too hard well do it. What's this bonus?"

"I want the scales of the wyvern the more you bring the more connections I will show you. By doing so you'll also be rewarded substantially as the scales are heavy and are hard to harvest from the corpse. You should know that wyverns take an entire team to handle let alone kill but you are merely two people. I give it that you are powerful but the only way for you both to kill a wyvern yourselves is to be a B-rank or above and the last B-rank recorded in history is the king's guard."

Looking at the guild master I casually answered for us both. "We'll get your quest done and we'll get you the scales. So much for not needing to test us."

As we left the guild I could see some of the adventurers sitting back down but with a look of concern while others were looking at us with hostility.

"Ren we should complete the quest after we have rested. While we have faced creatures like the wyvern in the labyrinth we should be careful."

"Yeah I was thinking the same we haven't come this far on just brute strength but also planning."

After we found the inn and booked it for a few days, Ren started tinkering with his weapons while I absorbed a large amount of mana to circulate around my body and Improve my spell casting.

~Next day~

We had finally made it half way down the road leading to the Magic guardians labyrinth and more and more carriages started to appear. Burnt corpses and toppled wagons of different types appeared the closer we got to the city surrounding the labyrinth. It had mostly been peaceful with the occasional bandit and monster but they were weak and a single spell ripped them apart. It wasn't until we got to our current position that we met our main target on a rampage. It was toppling a somewhat fancy carriage with an insignia on the side as it shrugged off attacks from adventurers and guards alike.

There had been wyverns in the labyrinth but even when we were under equipped for the situation we could still take them out with little difficulty. We're all people so... Weak. The way ren spoke about them I thought they were strong no matter who they were and that ren was the weakest of them all with no combat skills or experience but maybe he was wrong? Never mind that I need to prepare for battle.

The wyvern was large for how far into its growth and evolution it was. A typical description of a wyvern would suffice for this type of creature. It has much in common with dragons with the same style of head and wings but only 2 legs Its scales were thick and it had fangs and a tail that from what I could see had a coating of poison. Preparing a low level gravity spell I aimed at the wing and it tore a hole through the thin skin membrane downing the wyvern.

"Thanks Lilly it's my turn to fight this overgrown lizard"

Nonchalantly Ren pulled out his new lever action rifle and took a combat stance. Running towards the wyvern he dodged and weaved through all debris and low level magic attacks that was sent his way eventually finding himself in front of the monster before somersaulting over the wyvern. Pulling the trigger I could hear an explosive crack as black lightning travelled down the barrel of the gun before the bullet shot out at speeds unseeable to even my eyes piercing the wyverns skull like it wasn't heavily armoured. It let out an accusatory screech before ren landed and pulled out his revolvers shooting all of his bullets into its mouth killing it in one easy motion.

The body of the monster layed motionless next to the carriage surrounded on all sides by adventurers who pointed their weapons at ren instead of the dead monster.
