Exactly thirty minutes later, Karina woke up again. Her head hurt less this time, but she still felt a dull ache.
Pushing herself into a sitting position, she looked around the room one more time. She remembered seeing Veron walk out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist, but he was nowhere to be found now.
Her eyes veered to the closet, and when she saw it was closed, she let out a relieved sigh. She must have passed out again as a result of what she drank.
Climbing down from the bed, she started walking toward the exit door, but paused when she saw the curtain covering the screen door which leads to the balcony open. The door was also slightly opened.
Before she could stop herself, her legs moved in that direction. Soon she was standing on the balcony, looking at the city beneath her as she drew in deep breaths and exhaled. Her eyes snapped shut when the cool night breeze hit her face, and a small smile made its way to her lips. This felt exhilarating.
