Chapter 11 - Descent of a Being

One after another they were cut down mercilessly by my blade. Darkness sprayed off with every hit, blinding the creatures that endlessly marched like violent waves. I've lost track of how long its been since this battle started, though all I could think is about Zeraf and Ghost. As long as they are safe then we might be able to outlast this situation.

This time I was not only using stamina to move, I was utilizing frin in an experimental way as a substitute for physical stamina. The logic behind this is that in this environment there is a lot more dark frin to synthesize into energy. A big issue with this plan is my vein capacity. Untrained veins can get fatigued by prolonged use, and even become obsolete at carrying frin.

(''Ghh'') Out of every few attacks one gets through. As shallow as they may be, when all are in a similar area they build and hurt a hell of a lot more. If only I knew how to heal in the same way she did back then! She is a being of darkness, meaning that the technique is out there to learn for me. God, I wish these guys would give me a break!

Void had grown bored during my fighting. Waves of monsters meeting their end to my blade was repetitive. She had grown a chair out of the darkness to sit on in the mean time. Aside from the fact she wanted to devour me, I could see myself in her. Overcome by boredom in situations we created. Though this is much different, not sure I can afford to be bored when a psychotic woman was trying to eat me.

How to buy some time? Some rest would help out perfectly, just to regain some stamina. It's hard to maintain shadow frin without thinking about it on the fly. Wait! I could try creating a forest of seedling pods, each petal melting an individual enemy! On average each one drops over four hundred petals which should buy me a few minutes.

(''Seedling Garden-'') Blood trickled down from my arm as hundreds of trees shot towards the sky. Petals whiter than snow rained down from above melting all they came in contact with. Wails of agony flooded my ears, almost numbing the pain pulsing from my forearm. A hole the size of a fist punched through barely grazing the bone. It refused to obey my command and my body was rebelling against my brain.

With a flick of my wrist a dozen or so asipilias sprouted from the ground. They slithered onto my wounded arm like a python, squeezing until no more blood leaked. There are potions and medics who are proficient enough at healing this wound, the issue is making it out alive first.

My shadow movement could work but I'd only be able to carry one other person with me. Or at least that was the case a while back, maybe I've improved enough to save all three of us. Hmm…let's use that as a back up option, she might instantly see through my plan.

In the small area surrounding us I grew several more asipilias to heal Zeraf and Ghost. I have to at least protect them. Think Abaddon, think! I've already used all my creativity on coming up with the ethereal swords.

(''I'm growing tired of your charades boy. If you don't find a way to entertain me soon I will just gobble you up.'') Her demonic voice pierced harder than the ruckus of sea of ghouls. She is really pissing me off!

(''-let loose-'') Huh?! What? Who said that?! A voice calm yet full of excitement ordered me. Its pitch and accent were different from Void or anyone I've ever heard before…yet it felt so familiar. My neck snapping from corner to corner looking for the source only to find nothing.

Let loose? Is there something I could do in this situation that would give me a chance to beat Void? I don't need more questions, I need answers! This god damn mind of mine is annoying!

I could feel the trees of seedlings being torn down and ripped apart. This won't hold up much longer. Come on think god damn it! Think!

==================================================

(''Well well, the boy has come out of his little hiding hole. Have you thought of a new trick for me?'') She laughed her heart out, badgering me with condescending talk.

My legs shook below me from a combination of fear and fatigue, to an extent even she could see. The ghouls paused their attacks while she spoke. (''Boy, you have certainly grown in this battle. I commend you for that, you will be my tastiest meal in a while. I will humour you with a bit longer to fight till the brink of death. Maybe you wanted to know what your heroes felt like before they perished. HAHAHA'') With her cackle ending the endless waves of monsters ensued forward.

My right arm melted into a blade of darkness and a crown formed around my head. If this is to be my last fight, then let's make it a good one! I encased Zeraf and Ghost in a tomb of roots which submerged both of their bodies below the ground.

It felt like a dance, the way my blade moved through each walking corpse. Cutting like butter through the ethereal flesh. My blade moved on its own while my mind focused on inching closer to Void. One wrong step and I could be devoured by the crowd.

Frankly I am terrified. How could this all have gone so wrong in the span of three days? Everything was perfectly fine. I could even say that I was certain everything would go right… that was until she started following us. (''Ghh-'')

(''Tsk Tsk boy, don't let your mind wander off in the middle of battle. Its bad etiquette.'') Some ghouls managed to leave scrapes around my torso, enough to sting but not enough to put me down just yet. Fighting with a single arm was much more tiring, having to swing it twice as fast to make up for the injury.

I could last a maximum of a few more minutes at best. Maybe a miracle will just pop out of the sky.

==================================================

Bang.

(''Boy you have disappointed me.'') A large hole cut straight through my leg. Blood gushing onto the damp ground, not even the roots I barely summoned could stop the blood leakage.

Bang. (''AGHH'') Another hole in the opposite leg.

(''I was hoping that you had just a bit more spirit in you to grow into a sublime meal.'') She creeped closer through a clearing created by the ghouls.

Bang. (''Ghh'') She finally punctured my right arm. Everything pulsed through my blurry red vision. I could barely even make out her form creeping closer.

(''But what should I expect from a human?'') She is right, if I had been born an elf or an angel. Even a demon, my magic affinity would've been stronger. Because of my weakness Zeraf and Ghost will die…

(''You know, I've been watching for much longer than before you left Shiwick. I could've killed you…and everyone in that village. Men, women and children. But I stopped myself, it was an act of mercy for you. A little gift before you depart from this world. Knowing that the little village that you cherish so much, it gets to live.'') I don't understand. How can such a vile monster have a compassionate heart? To spare a village and only pick off those who take to the streets of the outside world.

(''I-I thank you for that. I accept the end you have presented me with. Please just never touch that village!'') You could call it my dying wish. I coughed it out along with the blood built up in my lungs.

My vision grew more blurry, tainted with red but I could make out shining lights falling from the sky. Almost as if stars crashed down onto Kine. The ground shook violently rocking me around and causing more blood to seep out. A large spear of light stood brightly between me and Void.

(''That was a valiant effort, Abaddon. Allow me to repay your kindness with my own.'') Hundreds. No. Thousands of spears flew down onto where Void was. Wails of agony cried out mimicking a scene from a disastrous tale.

Images of lightning flew through my mind as I tried to comprehend what was going on. Though even my brain couldn't come up with an explanation for what has transpired. A being strong enough to trample on a creature that took our whole arsenal to even amuse. A force to be reckoned with.

The heavenly voice that spoke before echoed through the fields. (''You may rest well young Abaddon, you have done a fine job. We will recover your friends-'') Her speaking cut short as two figures draped in black approached me. I could not make out anything aside from two shining eyes.

A hand slid onto my cheek, warming and reaffirming me that the conflict was over-
