Chapter 71 - Meeting Homer

Brick had put aside his worries about his effects on the world, who was the protagonist, what kind of version of the novel he was a part of whether it was the second round or perhaps the third.

Perhaps it was still the second round as he had thought since he knew that Lucy had already left on her journey before the apocalypse began just like how the novel began.

The reader within him couldn't help but picture other scenarios like it actually being the third round where Lucy had somehow come back again from the end of the novel along with him.

It sent a shiver down his spine as he considered the possibility since he would never be able to know unless she actually told him.

If it were the worst case scenario then that would make it more difficult to do his task and there was another worst case scenario that he thought about too.

The multiple regressor or reincarnated numbers were known to be two but he could not possibly know if there was yet another one out in the world somewhere.

It was so frustrating to come to those conclusions but even if that was the case, Brick was still not discouraged.

All he could do was to use what he had to survive and prepare for whatever possibility lied out there in the world.

He knew that he was being a little paranoid and overthinking things but it was partly due to the many kinds of things he had read in many different web novels.

There was another part related to the regression and how he had become Brick who had regressed which he was curious about too.

Brick knew of one of the underlying reasons why it may have been possible for Lucy to regress since it involved one of the reveals later in the novel.

Brick on the other hand was an unknown person who rarely got a mention and had few lines in the novel.

It caused him to wonder if there was something special about the body of Brick that caused everything or if it had been the result of some kind of accident or fluke event which allowed his last wishes to be granted.

Whatever the reason was for him being in the world of the novel, he was bound to Tanya and could only move forward using what he had available to him.

Even after hitting the glass window of the car a couple of times, there was no movement so he hit it again making a little more noise. "Oi."

Brick had waited for a moment until the car finally saw some movement as the person side started to rock a little.

A figure appeared behind the glass that slowly became more clear until eyes met.

It was Homer who had been napping due to his boredom from not doing anything for so long.

He leaned over climbing back into the front of the car before taking a look towards Brick outside then unlocked the door.

As the door unlocked, his tired eyes squinted a little. "Did you succeed?"

Brick looked towards Homer who had a tired and annoyed look in his eyes that screamed of his impatience then held back from sending a slap across his face. 'Hah.. you have just sat here doing nothing and yet you have the right to question me like this?'

Although he had been trying to pass on updates of what was going on, he could not keep it up forever especially when a lot of the left over powered devices were running lower on power.

With each accident happening or fault within certain areas that maintained any kind of backup power and maintained the connections between humans as the final lines of keeping humanity together, it was not just the power that would be lost as more systems that had failed to reboot or support themselves would begin to crash without the power being put back on.

What remained would soon be lost just like the power being supplied to each location and the final reserves of power left in the backup generators.

It was one of the reasons why Brick was in a hurry to accomplish what he had achieved already.

Unfortunately he had been unable to contact Homer during the time he planned to leave due to him remaining inside the car with his phone off as he slept through the boring task of keeping watch over the car.

Despite the frustration and annoyance Brick felt towards being questioned by someone who was too clueless about what was going on outside and the dangers he had to face, he maintained his calm and smiled. "Of course."

He raised his hand over his shoulder as his thumb pointed towards behind him where a beautiful girl with brown hair and eyes stepped out of one of the cars that had made its way up onto the top floor already and parked to avoid overcrowding.

Homer knit his brows and looked over Brick's shoulder towards Tanya then his eyes lit up. "Well don..."

His words paused as he saw several others coming out of the car along with another car coming up the ramp into his view. "What is this?"

His tone became even more annoyed as if he was ready to scold Brick from a superior position.

His body tensed and the pressure radiating from him had sharpened a lot as he passed Brick to observe the other survivors.

He turned back towards Brick and said coldly. "The orders were to only bring the young miss and anyone that is viewed as being a valuable target."

He had escorted the family several times maintaining the security so he would recognise if there were any familiar faces among the crowd but he saw none that he had been tasked to get back along with Tanya if it was possible to save more than just Tanya.

He saw Brick's actions as insubordination since Brick had chosen to not bring along others that would be helpful to his master. "Where are the young masters?"

Brick felt nothing in the face of being scolded and intimidated, he looked back shrugging his shoulders. "Some are dead or turned to become zombies. Young master Barnes is living along with a few others that are close to his circle of friends."

Homer grew increasingly colder as his tone of voice showed how important the matter was. "He is alive but you did not bring him?"

He was about to scold further when he saw a cold glance from Tanya who had walked close enough to hear his words.

Tanya quickly understood the underlying reason why Brick was being scolded and why her father wanted to bring back such people even if their characters were deeply flaws enough to bring troubles to their community.

With what Brick had told her honestly about, she knew that Brick was taking the scolding for her since he had made the efforts to save those close to her and some other survivors before prioritising her father's orders.

Her steps sped up as she closed the distance before speaking in a cold commanding tone. "Security Vice Head Homer, this one is simply following my orders. Step aside!"

Homer was surprised that the young miss had spoke to him in such a manner. "M..miss?"
