Chapter 7 - The Elders

Locked in for so long.

Barricaded, with no air space

And no one.

But as time fleets past,

And days turn weeks,

Weeks to Month,

And Months to Years.

They became dearer.

preciously held within our hearts like pearls.

Just like old fine wine.

The room seemed to be spinning. Ralph felt a severe headache the moment he opened his eyes, and the sunlight radiating through the opened windows reflected on his face making him unable to focus.

'Where was he?' He thought, The last thing he remembered was being on his knees with the Auburn beauty in his arms.

He turned his head to Diane his attendant. She was dozing off beside him, her hair was rough and haggard.

'Did she watch him all through the night?'. He was in his room and he had no idea how he got there. He tried standing up but his movement woke up Diane.

"Don Ralph". She said as she stood up.

"For how long have I been out?" He asked her.

"Jack brought you home unconscious two days ago".

"Two days ago?!" "Did I sleep that long?" He asked himself rhetorically. He felt a sharp pain on his left arm, he raised it to look at it. It was the hand he had used to stop the falling object from landing on the Auburn beauty in the burning building.

"The burn was severe, but Doctor Iron butt said you'll be fine". Diane said almost instantly as she saw him staring at his arm.

"Where is Jack?".

"He went to welcome the Elders".

"The Elders?" Ralph nearly shouted, immediately shocked by the revelation. "Why are the Elders here?"

"Well, We received words that The DeAngelis Don was coming for a meeting with you and since you were unconscious, So Miss Sophie called the Elders to join her to meet him".

'The DeAngelis!'

'Have they found out that he attended their ball and gotten hurt?' his thoughts weren't stable so he couldn't figure out why they suddenly visited him.

He tried standing up from the bed again but the bed cover falls off him, and he realized he was naked. Diane's Jaws dropped immediately, she seemed as though she had once again seen another piece of Leonardo's Artwork.

"Get me my clothes". He commanded and the young lady left immediately and went into his closet. He had no reason to feel embarrassed, he was confident in his body. He had a body no woman could resist.

"The Elders have arrived", Diane who had just returned with his clothes said snapping him out of his thoughts.

The Elders were the older members of the Wesley family, comprising some of Ralph's uncles and aunties.  They were four and they were never in charge of running any of the family business. Their only duty was to step in whenever the Don was indisposed and make decisions regarding the well-being of the Dons.

They were known for always making cold-hearted decisions.

Ralph could still feel his head spinning as he dressed up. He could see Diane staring intensely at him as though she was savoring every moment as he dressed. He staggered a bit as he tries to take a few steps after dressing.

"Don". Diane called as she rushes to assist him but He stops her. Diane was a deviously weird lady and he was almost certain that the only reason she wanted to help, was to touch him.

He takes a glass of water from the bed stand and sits for a little while to put himself together while taking occasional sips from the glass.

"Is The DeAngelis Don here already?"  He asked as he stands up to take his gun and tuck it in his holsters.

"Yes, Don Ralph". He has just arrived."

"Where is the meeting taking place?"

"The outer bar".

"Thank you. You may leave". Ralph orders and Diane walks out, closing the door behind her.

He dropped the glass back on the bed stand after he had patched up his dry throat. He felt much better now, though he was still a little dizzy. He clutched his left fist to feel how much pain it emanates and unluckily, he felt a very sharp pain and regretted the action instantly he winced a little and unclutched his fist. He must have seriously been burnt when he was trying to save the Auburn Beauty at the DeAngelis ball.

'Auburn Beauty!!' He smiled as he thought of the name he had given her.

His gut told him that The Auburn Beauty was the lady in red at his uncle's funeral. He would have to find out more about her once he gets done dealing with the DeAngelis today.

As he held the door knob to open it the thought of the Auburn beauty climbing up the stairs to join the DeAngelis aids and key family members at the stair balcony crossed his mind.

She was already the mysterious lady in red. She was also the only one who had enough guts to call his name and try to piss him off. She already had two sides of her he had seen and he was sure she had more. She was daring enough to even demand an apology from him.

'What else could she be?'
