Chapter 18 - The prince of darkness

Amira yawned lazily when she heard her grandma's words. She was trying to brush off the topic because it seemed like her grandma was not going to give up anytime soon.

However, that didn't change the fact that she was indeed exhausted from the day's activity. Lady Serena shook her head in disbelief.

"I can't believe we're two steps towards my father's freedom, grandma," Amira said as her lips curved into a smile.

There was sadness behind those brown hazel eyes even though she was trying to put on a gentle smile to mask the sadness. Lady Serena nodded her head in agreement.

"Come here."Lady Serena outstretched her right hand and moved on the couch slightly, creating some space for her.

Amira walked to her grandma and sat beside her, she brushed dark hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear before leaning her head on her grandma's shoulder.

The old lady wrapped her hand across Amira's shoulders and pulled her closer, planting a gentle kiss on her hair.

"I miss your son grandma," Amira admitted, a small smile creeping on her lips as the old memories that she shared with his father flooded her mind.

"I miss my son too."Lady Serena confessed, giving Amira's shoulder a slight squeeze and sucking in tight air.

It was silent inside the wooden house, even a drop of a pin could be heard.

"However, we need to be a little bit patient."The old lady reasoned out and Amira nodded her head in understanding.

No matter how much Amira wanted to get justice for her father. She had to be patient because it's a process, she needed that power to get him out of the prison and getting that in her hands will take time.

It was silent for a moment inside the wooden house. Amira and Lady Serena basked in each other's embrace.

"I still recall whenever we went fishing with father."A gentle smile flashed on her lips when she remembered, that was one of the good memories she shared with her father.

"I think you need to freshen up."Amira's grandma said, wrinkling her nose as if something was smelling.

" Don't tell me I  smell that bad like a rotten fish I have just talked about."Amira chuckled.

"You need to get a thorough bath."The old lady said jokingly as she stood up from the couch.

"I'm going to prepare your bath. I think I'll add some strong herbs to help with your aching muscles."Lady Serena said with a smile on her lips.

She wanted to help her granddaughter feel better because she knew that Amira was tired even though she was trying to look like she wasn't exhausted that much.

The old lady knows her granddaughter better than anyone else. She knows that Amira likes to act strong.

"Thank you, sweet grandma."Amira stood up and planted a butterfly kiss on her grandma's forehead and ascended the wooden staircase.

"Spoiled Princess."Lady Serena joked as she watched her granddaughter climb the stairs, supporting herself on the wooden railings.

She was grateful to have such a brave granddaughter who doesn't back down from anything. Even though Lady Serena was surprised when Amira proposed her plan to get her father's justice, the old lady didn't show it on her face.

_______

"Your bath is ready, your highness."Amira's grandma bowed in respect, like how the commoners bowed for the royal family.

Amira was watching the sunset on the veranda. She turned her head gently to look at her grandma and shook her eyes gently.

"What are you doing grandma?"She asked with a smile in her voice.

"I am just practising how I'll be addressing you once you become the queen."She shrugged nonchalantly and twisted her shoulders.

Amira was so happy that her grandma believed in her, that she can win the hectic competition and become Wylan's queen. There are times when Amira doubted herself.

"You're so funny, grandma."She admitted and laughed out loud. The old lady looked at her granddaughter with creased eyebrows.

" You don't need address me with a royal title grandma. You'll be calling me by my name, okay." Amira patted her grandma's shoulder and walked to her room.

She grabbed the towel and walked to the bathroom. Strong herbs filled Amira's nostrils as soon as she opened the wooden door.

Amira closed her eyes momentarily and sniffed the herbs in the air which calmed her nerves even before she stepped inside the wooden bathtub.

She removed the gown and placed it on the wooden stand carefully. Amira walked to the steaming bathtub and stepped the first foot, second and she finally laid on it.

She closed her eyes and leaned back, the warm water was soothing on her skin and she felt her muscles relaxing just like how the old lady had promised her.

_________

Inside the big and luxurious castle of Wylan kingdom. Prince Zeb stood by the window with a faraway look on his face.

The strong wind penetrating through the window blew his jet-black hair, making it messy as it fell on his forehead. His huge room was dimly lit by candles.

The cold moon showed on his face, matching his cold dark piercing eyes. Despite his coldness and faraway look, he looked strikingly handsome under the dim light from the moon.

Zeb heaved a sigh when he heard footsteps from afar, indicating that someone was approaching his room.

He didn't turn his head to look at the wooden mahogany door when it clicked open. Zeb didn't need to look at the door to know that it was his right-hand man who entered the room because he could smell his scent from afar.

Zeb never allowed anyone to enter his room apart from Malachi who's his right-hand man, the old lady Sarah who cleans his room and The king.

Zeb's room is out of reach, the few chosen ones are the only people who are allowed to enter and leave his room.

"Your highness."Malachi bowed his head in respect. Despite them being good friends for so many years, Malachi had to address Zeb in respect because those are the rules of Wylan's kingdom.

"Why the long face?"Malachi asked with slightly raised eyebrows.

"Would you like me slit the throat of someone who made you angry?" Malachi asked when he didn't get a quick response from Zeb.

"No, today you're not going to kill anyone." Zeb said with a more serious face."Instead, you're going to spy on someone."He added, although Zeb was not talking about murder, his voice was so cold like an ice rock and his face looked gravely.

Malachi creased his eyebrows when he heard Zeb's words. He's used to separating someone's head from the body whenever prince Zebulon had that look on his face.
