Chapter 44 - Journey to the Unknown

"So, when are we going there?" I asked.

"Tomorrow" she immediately replied.

"Tomorrow? Isn't that a little too fast?"

"You've got anywhere else to be?"

I looked down and nodded. This was a sudden change. The selection was held 2 days ago, and I had to join the Southern legion tomorrow?

Well, what Nicola said was right too. I had nowhere particular to be in nor did I have anyone to visit. I might as well go greet my new teammates.

"Fine, but how will we get there."

She looked a little down.

"Remember when I said I was going on a dangerous mission?"

"Yes…"

"Well…I didn't mean the missions that I will have to go to after I join the legion."

"Then, what exactly did you mean?"

"Well, getting there is one of the missions."

"I don't understand."

"Listen, Tony, the reason why the captains were so against joining the Southern legion is because of this. Not because of the missions entirely. Once you decide to join the legion, they won't send an Xrisk to pick us up like the other squads. We will have to make it to the legion by ourselves with limited resources."

"What?"

"Yes… they will let us know the location of the legion and then we will have to travel there by ourselves without using any sort of transportation other than portals"

Portals were artificial special doors. With the help of a portal, one can go to another planet or star in an instant. Unfortunately, there is only 1 portal on every star or planet and the worst part is that we don't know where we can end up on the other side.

Maybe even in a volcano. That's scary to think about. Also, no one knows where the portal exactly eases other than well-reputed fighters of a planet so we will also have to find the portal. It may take several years to get to the designated point of the Southern legion. There's a rather huge chance that we may not make it all together.

Did my dad think that I could make it? There was no turning back now. My heartbeat increased dramatically. The chances of survival were slim. We would have to fight several aliens on the way, and all of this would start tomorrow?

Nicola seemed to feel the same way.

I nodded.

"Well, I hope we both make it safely."
