Chapter 4 - Let's Duel

Examiner Carsalina continued," The first round will be duels between the applicants. Just in case you wind up with an extremely strong opponent, the selection system has been changed to a fair method. The applicants will be chosen based on fighting style, qualities, approved strength, speed, and such. The duels begin now! Your opponent can be looked up using your guidance system."

Whoa! She sure fired up the place. Oh, and by the way, the guidance system refers to a watch we all had to wear at the entrance and it had only one button. According to what I know, the button glows yellow when the watch has been sent information. And right now the stadium was a mini sun. I clicked the button, and a holograph appeared. My opponent was a guy called…Gradeath Bohainovich? What? They even had names related to death? I looked up his information. His picture was… Nooooo! The serpent man! I don't want to fight a guy with 22 abs! I mean 22?

I looked around. There he was. Oh no! He was looking at me and…grinning? Of course, he was, his opponent was an eighteen-year-old teenager that was half his size. He walked up to me.

Serpent man said," Hey, kiddo!" his voice was so rough and scary; "You can still run out through that exit you know. Better shame than death, don't you think?"

He laughed in a seriously evil manner. I got chills. Worse chills than when the master arrived. I have been training ever since that incident happened. Won't my hard work pay off? Won't my eight years of pain and endurance help me? Will my dream be taken away thanks to some petty dual?

Before I got any time to think about it Carsalina shouted.

" Now start your duels!"

Before I knew it everyone around me was fighting and one after the other was getting crushed. The serpent man too rushed towards me. I was scared out of my mind! He lifted his impossibly muscular arm about 20 feet over me and crashed it down. This was it. I lost all hope. I looked around. Then I looked at the meteor-like arms crashing down at me.

It is then that I realized that everyone was moving particularly slowly. Even the serpent man took his sweet time landing his blow. Why was everyone so slow? I avoided any extra thought, dealt with the confusion, and took advantage of the situation. The huge fists were just about to hit me but I dodged them plenty easily.

He was extremely surprised.

"How did you move away so fast?"

I wasted no second and took his surprise to my benefit and jumped high enough to reach his face and kicked him straight in the nose and he went flying all the way to the wall of the stadium. Everyone was staring at me. They were all astonished. Even the captains were so. But the master, his face looked as if he expected this to happen.

However, it could just be in my head because he usually seemed unmoved by anything or he was aware of everything before it occurred.
