Yes, that was the first time his mother mentioned their name for the first time in his life. At first, he was a bit surprised at the sudden occurrence, but his curiosity got the better of him to read the content of the letter. After few minutes of absorbing the information the old, mysterious white paper its letters where written in blood contained, he held his hands to his mouth, preventing the scream of pure terror he so desperately wished to release from passing through his lips.
The content of the letter contradicted what he had been taught since childhood. They made everyone believe that the Aeons were the destruction of humanity, and for such, their Race was exterminated from Earth's surface. The whole thing sounded completely ridiculous to Romeo, and yet it made perfect sense to someone as smart as him.
All these were lies. A facade used by those who held power to cover their heinous crimes. Every single soul on earth knew of the existence of the Aeons, but no one dared to speak about them. To say their names out loud would be like spitting the foulest of curses towards the very Race who never deserved every second of pain inflicted upon them.
Romeo clenched the letter in his hand. His nails dug into the paper until small droplets of blood began seeping from the envelope. He didn't care. If anything, he welcomed any kind of pain that came along with this. As long as he could rid himself of these awful thoughts, all was well in the world. He couldn't help feeling angry towards those who had forced everyone to live under their cruel rule for decades now.
"Mother?" Romeo whispered in awe and surprise, his mind still reeling from the news he just received. Now the whole puzzle now made sense.
"What if this letter was the cause of his mother's disappearance? And why did he keep getting rejected anytime he applied for college?. The most painful reality was the scholarship which he won, was painfully ripped away from him and given to another.
A tear fell down Romeo's cheek. It wasn't fair. No matter what they told him and how many times he read those words over and over again, they remained stubbornly true. How dare some filthy creatures come up with such horrible ideas when everything good in the universe has already passed through their hands?
Clenching the already fumbled letter to his chest, he was determined to Uncover their Misdeeds. Since he was constantly getting rejected, he applied to be a Library apprentice. At least, this was the only way he could make a living while searching for answers. He became obsessed with the word "Aeon''. And with the help of the book his mother had mentioned in the letter, " The book of Endless", he was hellbent on achieving his goal, If only the Templars never crossed his part.
Romeo Was accepted to work in the Library in their district. Their town was situated on an island. One hidden magically behind a waterfall. With Aurora being the capital City, each town that made up their city was subdivided into districts with the high council that presided over each of the district's.
Standing at the front of the library, his silver hair blew softly in the wind, showing off the feature which he inherited from his mother. His eyes gleamed underneath the rays of the sun, showing off his sharp, yet gentle features. A soft sigh left his lips as he looked up at the imposing structure before him.
Despite the building having numerous rooms filled with books, none of them held the young lad's interest. He had spent a lifetime reading virtually everything he came across in search of clues. Some books he found gave little or no hint at all, while some held completely different information. He would have tossed those books aside, but he never did. He read them all, believing that no Knowledge is a waste.
Today was different. After years of unrelenting search, he discovered that the Library, his very place of work, was still the same place he found The Book of Endless. He still remembered the fateful event that led to the discovery.
It was a faithful afternoon, when his Master, the Librarian, who was a man in his mid thirties named Luca, gave him the keys to his office to get a journal he was to deliver to the council. Romeo found it Confusing and strange for the first time. For he was only permitted to enter his office When needed and it was really a rare occurrence. And most times, His master was always around to monitor his every move. His office, which was located at the east end of the building, held important documents, books and journals that were not meant to be read by outsiders.. And now, he was sending him on an errand to get a journal all by himself?
Romeo collected the keys and made his way toward the destination.
As he stepped inside the odd room and searched for the journal his master had requested. Locating the journal at the top of his desk, Romeo picked it up and in the process, a bronze key fell off the journal.
Crouching down to retrieve the item, he noticed that the key had the inscription of "Beware". Taking the key, Romeo eyes meet the drawer that his master kept his journals in, and decides to investigate further.
The room was surprisingly spacious compared to the rest of the library. There were rows upon rows of shelves, each with a specific shelf design, and a single wooden chair sat right in the middle of the room with his Master's desk, placed next to it.
Slotting the key slowly into the drawer, he gave the key a little twist and the drawer clicked. Romeo opened the drawer and pulled out a book. He closed the drawer and set the book on the table, opening it up he read the title.
"The Book of Endless." He repeated the title once more, trying to comprehend if he had read wrong. He was astounded as to how this book was in his master's keep. It was the one thing his master didn't want anyone to see, even him. The only reason why it was here in this section was to hide the existence of the book. But why? Did the book contain the answers he so desperately wished for?
Prying the book open, he skimmed the contents of it. The book was about an ancient race called the Chosen Ones, known as the "Aeons".
He immediately closed the book as the Words fell off his lips. This was what he longed for. Closing the drawer back, he placed the key on the desk while he tucked the book in his undergarment before exiting the office.
After delivering the journal to his Master, he lied that he needed to go home to take his medications. His master, having seen his serious and faltering expression, granted his request.
Romeo quickly collected his bag and tossed the book inside and fled home in excitement. He couldn't wait to fully read the content of the journal!
Upon arrival at his house, he rushed straight to his bedroom without taking off his outerwear. Opening his bag, he took the leather notebook and sat on his bed, staring at it with wonder. He couldn't wait to find out the truth behind everything.
The Book of Endless is said to have been written millions of years ago. The Aeons who wrote it used it to keep records of the true events that had happened in history. But after the Great War, the book suddenly disappeared and was sought after for years by those who wanted to know more about Aeon's Lore. This would be his first time actually reading about the Aeons.
His curiosity grew as the pages turned rapidly. The writing, although archaic looking, was still legible. The words flowed smoothly in the form of beautiful flowing cursive. In his hands laid the entire history of The Aeons, as far back as they had appeared on Earth. From the beginning of the Universe itself up to today. Every detail which they had recorded in their great works were carefully recorded by the author. They were extremely detailed and meticulously written.
Romeo couldn't believe his ears. The words written on those pages were real, they truly existed. And he was shocked at the painful Revelation he discovered.
"This was the reason why they lied from the very beginning" he muttered silently as his eyes traced across each page of the book.
Meanwhile, at the farthest end of his room were a pair of eyes that watched him silently from the darkness.
