Romeo tried to rush towards the door, yet another force prevented him. He was trapped in the middle of the room.
"You're gonna pay for what you've done." Luca's voice echoed in his ears, as he stared down at him from across the room with a smirk on his face.
The more Romeo tried to free himself from the invincible force trapping him, the tighter the bonds became. His mind reeled with panic as his eyes met his Master's sinister ones.
Romeo watched as Luca drew closer. The man was too close. His face grew inches away from him and his hand was raised. He brought it forward slowly, ready to strike him.
"You.. you're a Nuanam? Romeo whispered hoarsely, the fear obvious in his voice. He was able to identify his master as a Nuanam, because from the books he read, only a Nuanam was capable of performing such Magic. For it would require a great deal of strength and the level of one's awakened abilities to do so. A cold laugh escaped Luca's lips as his hands froze in mid air, preventing him from striking the boy.
"You see the reason I must not keep you alive" his master's voice sounded like nails scratching against a chalkboard; loud, clear, and echoing. He lowered his body until their faces were inches apart and said,
.. "You will die."
" Why did you become a Librarian instead of staying in the capital fending off the dark beast? Romeo struggled with the bonds that seemed to get tighter as time passed. It was almost unbearable!
" It's all because of the book that kept you in your current predicament. 'The Book Of Endless". I stole the book with the hopes of getting powers beyond humans' wildest imaginations. So I became a Librarian to hide my sins. But I discovered the book held nothing but empty fallacies about history!" the Nuanam continued before adding with a snarl," Unfortunately, I was caught. The council started suspecting me"
" But you know... " He cautiously trailed his fingers on Romeo's soft skin, causing the latter to whimper at the touch. "I cannot let this be the end of me. They will execute me for what I did. I don't want to die. Not yet. I have many things to accomplish..." Romeo could feel Luca smirking, his breath hitting his cheek as he spoke:
"I knowingly let you get hold of the book. When I was certain you fell for my trap, I sent words to the Council, telling them the stolen book was under your Bosom!" he exclaimed triumphantly.
Luca's hand stopped its journey on Romeo's neck. He lifted his head up, staring into his Crimson red eyes he loathed every single second of his existence.
"Why not take my fall? Isn't it a pleasure to die for your master's sake, Romeo?" A sadistic grin spread across Nuanam's lips as he pulled his right arm back swiftly into his side, pulling a small bottle with blue liquid out of his inner jacket.
"You evil bitch! You can't kill me. I'll expose your deeds to the council and demand justice" He yelled, his whole body now trembling with rage as he tried desperately to break free from the restraints once again.
Luca cocked an eyebrow at his outburst.
"Justice? he scoffed. " Don't worry, I wasn't going to kill you anyway. I can't paint my hands with blood. There's a better way to do it.... " Luca whispered into Romeo's ear. " I'm Nuanam. Am supposed to be a defender of humanity and not a destroyer".
" Don't worry about seeking out justice, since it doesn't exist in our world. Even if it does, this little bottle I am holding is more than capable of extinguishing the last drop of justice left on earth."
Before Romeo knew it, Luca had Uncorked the weapon he believed would help him accomplish what he wanted. He placed the glass bottle onto Romeo's exposed collarbone and the blue liquid spilled down his torso, splattering on the floor. His master let out a cruel laugh as he watched the blue liquid trickle down his apprentice's body.
When Romeo noticed that the bond which was restraining him had weakened, he angrily picked up the wooden chair that stood by the wall and smashed it on Luca's head. The impact caused Luca to stumble backwards and drop to the ground, unconscious.
Romeo felt the pressure leave his body as he stared at his master's wounded figure. He was afraid of why his master did not dodge the attack but allowed him to have his way. At first, he thought he would use his magical abilities or dodge the danger in one swift move. But instead, he was surprised at his actions.
Romeo carefully approached him to examine his injury, when a painful groan came from underneath Luca's sprawled figure.
"You never learn do you? His master's deteriorating voice spoke as he held his bleeding head.
Before Romeo could process what was happening, a loud bang sent his door flying to the other side of the room.
He turned around to see the cause of the noise only for his entire being to freeze.
Standing there was a tall figure wearing a black attire. A sword was strapped to his waist and a golden mask covered his entire face.
His heart dropped when he recognized who the intruder was.
The Templars.
This group of powerful mages were responsible for capturing those whose Hearts were corrupted during their awakening. Those who possessed Dark powers were hunted down by them. They also ensured that those who were gifted with supernatural abilities never abused their powers. They were also called the Control Bureau by Humans. They were like the governing body that ensured security between the awakened and humans.
Apart from the elite mage, ( The Nuanams) those whose awakened Powers were unrivaled, and were seen as the defenders of humanity, the protectors against the Shadowbeast, The Templars also protected the weak humans from any beastly attack.
Despite their wonderful reputation, these groups of mages were also the ones that hunted down the remaining survival of the Aeons, or those who scavenged for the hints of those legendary powers.
Their presence meant no peace for anyone unless they were destroyed.
However, the Templars were not there to destroy anyone. They just received a report a while ago that someone had stolen a sacred book. And they came to investigate the incident as usual.
What if the investigation turned into something Romeo never bargained for?
