Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Whining

*Sigh*

"Maybe I expected too much for a baby. I should have known that the mind of a child is too undeveloped to process the information down." Garth lamented.

"You think?" Alice mocked as she was busy doing chores for the druid.

Garth realize that it may not be as easy as he would had thought. Even if the child held a brilliant mind, it couldn't compare to experiences that were accumulated throughout one's life. Despite that, he wasn't deterred from trying to provide the baby curiosity about their history. He could see the glow in Reginald's eye when he continue to attentively listen his story. He might had gotten carried away with the lecture, as it became a full course of the overview of the timeline.

As Garth was about to grab another book from the desk, Elfeng came inside the hut. He was wearing a different coat, which suggest that he went off elsewhere to get a better jacket. In the frigid wasteland, no one is spared from it's wrath.

"Garth, it's time to have the young boy to return to the chief. The sun is almost setting. The misses is worried if you hold him any longer, she'll march over to raze the little house to cinders."

Garth frowned. He wanted to spend more time showing Reginald all his collection he inherited from his mentor and his mentor before him.

"Very well. Reginald, remember what I taught you. There will be a time when these stories would be useful to you."

Garth handed Elfeng Reginald after swaddle his blanket. As they head out, Garth called out before they left.

"Make sure that he comes during the afternoon. I had to do fix someone's mangled arm for the time being."

"I'll rely it to the chief."

Elfeng was walking off to the chieftain halls. With the guard beside him, he didn't feel as though anything would be too auspicious to harm the group. After all, they're in the middle of the village. Once the a conflict brewed, there would be nearby warriors, either on or off duty, to rush to their side. Regardless, carrying Reginald was putting a strain on his arms. It must really the heaviest baby he ever lifted.

"Do you think this little one would become like the chief?" Elfeng asked.

The guard simple chuckled as he replied.

"Living in a household where his father stores all the creatures he hunted, I'm sure he'll fatten up."

"Humph, he's suppose to be a special baby. I gotten an earful from that druid's preaching. If I recall, the gods had favored him a lot."

"Isn't it a rumor? I thought they were messing around."

"Idiot, didn't you remember? Your brother kept blabbering that he saw the gods descend from the heaven to bless this child. Since then, he's been visiting the druid for sometime now."

The guard just shrugged as they continued walking to the halls.

Upon their return, Hera had been waiting for her baby boy.

She been worried that the escort might run into trouble, so she waited after finishing butchering the carcasses of the beast.

She ran towards them as she hugged Reginald, ripping him off from Elfeng's hands.

"Oooooooh, my baby boy, did you miss mommy?" She barraged Reginald with kisses.

Reginald tried to resist her affection, but to no avail. The amount of blood she had on her hands was the sole reason why Reginald tried to avoid her.

'Dam, these guys are too primitive to understand the concept of germs! I need to grow quickly otherwise I'll be afflicted with diseases.'

Even Reginald understood the

Elfeng and the guard stood by as they witness a motherly love for her children.

'Huh, I guess they're just a normal family.' Elfeng thought.

Both of the guards bowed a little as they moved off to their post.

Hera took Reginald inside. For a while now, she been craving to put Reginald in her newly knitted clothing. It is every mother's duty to witness their child achievements, no matter how little.

Within a few moments she entered Reginald's room, he was dressed up like a raccoon.

The striped tail gave off an impression that he was more similar to a monkey, given that she removed all the flesh from it.

Despite his little costume, Reginald felt rather comfortable in the outfit she given.

As she was in awe, Bjorn shout at the front door.

"Let me go! I want to go hunting with father!" Bjorn shrieked as she try to struggle their grip. The guards had to drag him back to his home because he tried to sneak back to the gate.

Hera carried Reginald downstairs, looking at the three.

She approached them with a concerning voice.

"What happened? Why is Bjorn upset?"

"Forgive us my lady, Chief Halger order us to send Bjorn back to the house. He tried to join the hunting party but the chief wouldn't allow it."

There were no age restrictions regarding job requirements. In the medieval fantasy, where an adult isn't expected to retire, there are children who became orphans from unfortunate circumstances.

"Mom, tell these guys to let me go! I want to join father's hunt!" Bjorn yelled as he continue to punch and kick them.

"Bjorn…"

He continues his tantrum.

"Bjorn?" She replied again.

It was getting nowhere.

"Stop right now this instant!" She commanded.

The guards let go of Bjorn as he stumbled to the ground. He looked at his mother confused as to why she yelled at her child.

Bjorn, ever since he was born, was never scolded.

Every time he broken something, his mother and father never lectured him.

Whenever he lazed from his class, they simply turned a blind eye.

And whenever he bully other kids, they cover him by apologizing to their parents.

Although these tendencies had diminished as he grew older, he never felt that it he was at fault.

But now, before his own mother, she stepped her foot down.

"Bjorn, your father is busy trying to feed our village by leading the hunting parties. He has no time to play with you." She sighed.

"How about you help mommy with your little brother? You haven't spend time with him for a while, so you should join us."

Bjorn looked at Reginald. The very thing that's changing his life. The feeling of hatred swelled in his veins as he tried to sneer at the baby.

Reginald was looking at Bjorn's attitude.

'Guess my older brother doesn't like me. Fair enough, kids want to hog all the parents love so that they may feel happy or something like that. Well don't worry Bjorn, as soon as I start walking, I'll be too busy playing house.'

Reginald looked away dismissively.

Bjorn notice his little brother's reaction. At first, he tried to scare him by showing his hostilities. If that happened, Hera would be too busy to calm Reginald down, giving him leeway out of her attention. But the sight of his little brother not acknowledging him insulted him deeply.

Although Reginald didn't show any emotions, Bjorn will remember it very well.

Whether or not both of their perspective will affect their actions, remains to be seen.
