After helping Amelia with her history lesson from my world, I got up.
"Leaving already?" She asked.
"I have to meet some guy named Luke from combat classes."
"Oh? I'll accompany you." She cleaned up the table and without questioning her, I just followed her out of the office.
"Don't you have more important things to do?" I asked.
"Patrolling is important. Think of it as such." She said with a soft smile.
No matter how much I wanted to twist this negatively, I can't find a fault in this so-called friendship of ours. She knows nothing about me and I know nothing about her lineage. I don't think she even cares and so, you can say our friendship is real. She even took my side over Elena's. Considering her family is more important than me for this kingdom, I think questioning her is disrespectful.
We have met each other twice and the first time was literally yesterday and yet, we kicked off really well. Talking to her was refreshing and interesting. I learned quite a lot from her about this world and she learned a lot from me too. Not only do I think we are compatible as friends, I like her as a person too. I've heard nothing but good about her from others too. I want to respect her feelings and so, from here on, I'll try to trust her. Even if it's illogical and even if I can't fully convince myself, I'll trust her.
But in all honesty, I'm quite useless. I have no magic and I don't even belong to any powerful family. I might as well label myself a liability to her. If I mess up, it might fall on her and I could end up becoming a burden. There are now two ways to go about it. Either, I'll stop interacting with her altogether so, my problems don't fall on her or become a better person who avoids confrontations. In this world, I don't exactly have the protection I did back in my world. My biggest issue was my parents but I often used my parent's wealth and power to get around things. Now, I have none of that. You win some you lose some, I guess.
Earning money is the only way for me. I can't become a knight either so I can't acquire land.
"Thinking of something?" Amelia asked and I shook my head.
"Just... stuff. Don't worry."
"Ah, right! Should we go to my home on weekend? I really want to try food of your w- nation." She almost slipped up there.
"Sure." I answered. I do have some ideas on what to cook. Maybe an Italian cuisine. It's easy on palette compared to Asian food.
I could notice students looking in our direction which I guess, it is to be expected considering Amelia is a big deal in this academy.
"Here we are- Oh? They're having extra classes, I guess." She sighed and stood next to the door to the classroom.
"Extra classes?"
"Because Scofinia was invaded and then taken over by monsters, other nations are strengthening their militaries too. That includes extra classes for students in military course." She answered.
"Oh? Then, I'll go. You do your student council things." I said and was about to walk away but she stopped me.
"If you're going to meet Layla, can you ask her to stop by my office?"
"Sure." I answered and walked away going to the library. Layla and Amelia seem really important given everyone's reaction. I guess Luke and Charlotte would be just as big of a deal.
While on the way, I was stopped again by Elena. I sighed and rolled my eyes. Why can't she leave me alone...?
"Are you in romantic relationship with Ame-" Before she could finish that sentence I covered her mouth and dragged her to a more secluded area.
"Dumbass, you would've caused a scene if you had finished that sentence!"
"So? Are you?"
"No. And leave me alone. I'm not even of this nation. You're setting a bad example of how nobles of this nation acts."
"Whatever nation you are of, I don't care. A commoner is a commoner."
"Okay then what do you want? And no, I can't stop being friends with Layla and Amelia."
"Fight me!" She said enthusiastically.
"I don't have magic. I can't fight. I think that was made clear by just about every magic gauge."
"Fine. A sword fight with no magic would do." She said with a prideful smile.
Her persistence wasn't annoying to me. I hate saying this but it was interesting to say the least.
"A sword fight? Are you dumb? I'm a commoner, right? How would I know how to fight? Okay.. y'know what. Fine. I'll fight you once you make it clear why you want to fight me."
"Well, I heard you came here with Keshi and Historia and that you even saved their lives and so, you have intrigued the interest of her majesty and I want to show everyone that you're actually a liar!"
"So... that would mean... Keshi lied to your queen too because I never said anything about me being a savior. It was all her."
"I-..." She probably never expected that as she was taken aback by this newfound revelation. "T-There is surely no way that you're trustworthy. It could be true that you were in on it. You were part of the group of those criminals."
"I killed one of them. Why would I kill my own team mate? Not only that but I also hurt others REALLY badly. I wonder if some died from infection later on."
"You did wha- Uh... Ummm..." She started thinking about any excuse to fight me but couldn't come up with one.
"I guess your intentions might not be evil but I have to go. I have appointment with Layla." I said before walking away.
...
Nothing eventful happened with Layla. She was quite a quiet girl. She barely even spoke for the two hours we were together. I wonder if this would become a norm for me. This was somewhat comforting too.
I wonder if I should go out into the city and enjoy myself but then again... I don't have the money to enjoy myself. I should take on some kind of job once I have caught up with the syllabus.
"Oh, by the way, Amelia asked you to come to her office." I said before I stood up from chair ready to leave.
"Miss Amelia? Seems like you've gotten close with her to say her name without honorifics." She pointed out before packing her stuff up. "I don't think you should get too involved with nobility. You never know when you tick someone off." She said before leaving.
Her monotone was quite ominous but I know all too well how elites work. That's exactly why I have been avoiding making friends except when asked to.
Now that two hours had passed, I think I can go over a meet Luke.
...
Luke had blue eyes and ginger hair. He was easy to point out in the crowd since he was also slightly taller than the rest.
"Hey, I'm Kara." I introduced myself to him as he left the class.
"Kara? OH! Professor told me about you. Nice to meet you. I'm Luke Von Delhevia."
"So... need help with anything? I don't have magic, so, I don't know why Professor Frieda send me to you."
"Hm? Who cares." He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and carried me to cafeteria. He was too friendly compared to others I had met so far. He sat at the table and ordered some onion soup with toasted bread.
"I don't think that can sustain a body meant to battle." I said.
"Really? What do you suggest?" He asked.
"A proper but quick meal would do. Something you can take anywhere. A burrito would work perfectly fine."
"What's that?"
"So umm... basically you have a flat bread and you put stuff in it and wrap it. Usually it has beans, meat, rice and some vegetables and a sauce."
"Oh? Can you make some?" He asked and I nodded.
"I would show you some other time. It's getting quite late today so I will head back. I have some syllabus to catch up on."
"Ah! No worries. Study hard. That's all you got. A lot of jobs are out of question because your lack of magic. I would suggest looking into bureaucratic jobs."
"Thanks for suggestion." I left the cafeteria.
He was something. Too energetic despite extra classes.
...
In my dorm, I was sitting at the table reading textbook about this world's history. Professor Frieda made a quick mention of this group called 'The Grand Order'. It was only a brief mention but it piqued my interest.
So, roughly 3,200 years ago, a war broke out between all of humanity over dominion and five humans came victorious and claimed the five thrones on this world. So far, The Grand Order had it's members changed a few times and current members are not known.
Krodh, Moh, Ahankar, Kam and Lobh are the titles of the grand order and their names were Shiroyu, Kaze, Raha, Varuna and Ipos respectively. These rulers were considered the epitome of power yet they were mortals and died of one reason or the other and were succeeded by a few over the centuries.
I wonder if I'd ever get to meet any of them. Getting on their good side would set me up for life.
I spent a few more hours reading about the war that was titled 'The Great Divine war'. The stories were interesting and I wanted to read more. Few hours turned into an entire night and the next day I had classes. I managed to get no sleep but even then I hope I don't mess up today.
