Chapter 1 - Destruction

"No!" Igor cried out as he grabbed William by the wrist. William dangled off the side of a cliff and held on for dear life. Igor's hands were sweaty, causing William to slowly slip away from him. Eventually, his entire hand slipped away from William's wrist and William fell to his death.

"No! William!" The burning of the village got louder as he heard bandits approaching. Igor got up and ran away, crying.

That was 10 years ago. Igor is now 15, and attending the Great Ductus Magic Academy, or GDMA for short. This would be his first year at the GDMA. For the past 8 years, he had been training with his mentor, Rias Helminth. Now that he was a sophomore, he had more opportunities and paths he could pursue because he was finally getting a proper education.

It was the first day of school. Igor woke up and looked in his mirror. He had wavy black hair, purple eyes, and fairly light skin. He was also pretty built for his stature, standing only at about 156 centimeters which is about 5'1 in the imperial system. He brushes his teeth and showers. He then puts on the school's uniform which is a white collard shirt. A navy blue tie, a navy blue blazer with the school's insignia on the left chest which is a serpent wrapping around a vertical staff. Navy blue trousers and black shoes.

As he is heading to class, he bumps into another student.

"Oh shit- my bad bro." Igor apologized.

"Oh, no problem, it's okay. Actually, aren't you the number one ranked in the school for wrestling?" The dude asked. He had long, scruffy white hair which was tied back. His skin was a bit dark and his eyes were bright red. He was also much taller than Igor. The guy was probably about 6 foot tall.

"In my weight class, yeah." Igor tells him.

"I was actually looking for you!" The guy said happily.

"Really? Why?"

"Because I saw you before school started and you always looked so lonely and thought that I'd be the first person to actually try and talk to you." The guy told him.

"Oh...Well, my name is Igor." He introduced himself.

"My name is Kyrie, it's so nice to finally talk to you!"

"Kyrie? Wait, weren't you dubbed to have the most potential last year?" Igor asked.

"Yes, I was!" Kyrie answered.

"Sheesh... must've been a difficult title to obtain, huh?" Igor commented.

"Yeah, but years of studying has gotten me this far."

"Nice, nice...Welp, I gotta get to class." Igor told him.

"Okay, can we meet up at the north bridge after school? I need to talk to you about something." Kyrie asked.

"Of course, I'll go there right after school." Igor answers while walking to class.

"Alright, cya then!" Kyrie says while walking to his class.

"Cya bro!"

After school, Igor walked to the north bridge and sat under the bridge, waiting for Kyrie. A few minutes later, Kyrie showed up and sat down next to him.

"Bro cannot fit." Igor said with a chuckle as Kyrie struggled to stay comfortable under the bridge due to his size.

"Shut up..." Kyrie compromised by lying down instead of sitting. "Aight, so..."

"Uh huh?" Igor waited intently.

"Uhh...We had a family friend that would always come and visit to tell us how amazing his adventures were and how wonderful his life was right?" Kyrie told him.

"Uh huh..."

"His name was Nearl, but do you want to know the one thing he treasured most?"

"No? What is it?" Igor asked.

"His son." Kyrie told him.

"Uh huh? Go on..."

"Nearl was just his alias though." Kyrie says.

"Really? What was his real name?" Igor asked.

"Ivan Orlov." Kyrie answered. Suddenly, Igor jumped up but his head hit the brick bridge.

"Ah! Fuck!" Igor cursed painfully.

"Ahahaha!" Kyrie laughed at him.

"Bro, shut up...Okay, so his name was Ivan Orlov?"

"Yeah...ahehe..." Kyrie answered.

"Bro...That's my dad's name..." Igor told him.

"What? But Ivan died 15 years ago." Kyrie said.

"Yeah...He died before I was born..." Igor said while looking down solemnly.

"Oh...I- I'm sorry for your loss..." Kyrie apologizes empathetically.

"It's alright...If that's all you had to say then I guess I'll get going." Igor said while standing up.

"Yeah... Goodnight bro." Kyrie stands up and daps Igor up.

"You too G." The two of them head home and go about their day.

For the next few weeks, Kyrie and Igor would spend more and more time together, becoming very close. Soon enough, Kyrie introduces Igor to Lexia and Lumine, 2 of the top ranking female students. The four of them became great friends and hung around each other all the time. The four of them were inseparable. Until, one day during winter break, a hoard of monsters attacked the city. There were no alarms sounded, no warning of what could've caused this, it just happened. Hundreds of not thousands of people died, with a plentiful amount more injured severely.

Igor awoke to the sound of screams and roaring. He quickly gathered his legal documents and ran outside with a duffle bag of important papers. He ran about the city, dodging falling debris and monster attacks. All of these monsters were way more powerful than he could've ever imagined. They were at least A rank monsters. They flattened 60 percent of the city and the surrounding areas.

Suddenly, a bloodhound jumped onto Igor and began to wrestle him. Igor received deep gashes and wounds while trying to protect his documents. Soon, Igor grabbed the hound's paws and headbutted the thing. The bloodhound was desensitized and stumbled a bit. Igor grabbed a sharp piece of rebar and stabbed it right in the head. Igor was covered in his own blood, bleeding from every possible limb and appendage. He dragged himself away from the city because he was one of the many who were trapped inside. He didn't care if what he was doing was selfish, he had fought so hard to get so far, he couldn't die now. He escaped into the wilderness and wasn't seen for a long time.
