Chapter 2 - It's Him!

"Mind explaining to me the reasons why you're late Carmel after I assigned you one of the most important jobs." The head of the department, Morgan asked as she walked towards Carmel with her shoes ticking loudly.

"I'm so sorry Morgan. It wasn't my fault." Carmel chuckled slightly as she played with her nails with nervousness.

She forgot that Morgan asked her to gather all the designs they'd done the past months together to present to the boss when he arrived.

"So it was my fault then, right?" Morgan asked in annoyance. "Can't you be trusted with a task again? Those designs must be sorted out before he arrives or else you would be fired."

Morgan hit her fist on the nearby table and Carmel nodded nervously as she watched Morgan turn and walk away.

A sigh escaped her lips as she watched Morgan walk away proudly. Someone pulled Carmel's arms towards her table and she saw it was her colleague Alexa.

"What happened? Why were you that late? Don't tell me something happened to the car?" Alexa looked at her with raised brows.

"Well technically, the battery died and I've called the car repair to help me check on it. Don't worry, your car will be given back in perfect condition." Carmel chuckled slightly as she dropped her bag and opened her drawer to pick up her laptop and the pencil.

"It's fine. Well, whatever. Have you heard about the new boss? I've heard lots of rumors about him." Alexa whispered and Carmel hummed as she started to sort out all the millions of designs that had been sent to her.

She detached the keyboard of the laptop and made it into an iPad so it would be easier for her to sort everything comfortably.

"His name is Nathan. He is the son of Chairman Sloan and apparently, he just returned from overseas. His net worth is in billions and apparently, he is one of the big shots in the city," Alexa said.

"Gosh." Alexa gaped. "Such an attractive man. No wonder there are a lot of women hoping to be his."

"But, I heard he is very strict," Alexa ended in an exaggerated tone but only that she wasn't exaggerating.

Carmel, who was busy with what she was doing, just hummed. Although she was clumsy earlier, when it came to her work, she was usually focused.

And having the gift of focusing on two things also helped her whenever her friend was busy bringing gossip and she was busy working.

Alexa usually worked very fast and tasks assigned to her were usually done quickly and would be passed on to Carmel to cross-check and add some additional things.

By the time Carmel finished cross-checking a particular work, she would be done with about ten already which in the end would leave Carmel with a lot of work.

"So the boss is a very ruthless and arrogant person as I've heard."Alexa chattered. "Senior Liv too told me that he doesn't accept mistakes. Everything he sees must be perfect because he is oh-so-perfect. That's the reason why Morgan keeps yapping at us so that he doesn't have to pinpoint a single mistake."

"Oh, I see," Carmel replied as she scribbled something on the design she was examining.

"Why aren't you surprised? Everyone who hears this is surprised. You're the only different one." Alexa frowned.

"Oh. Am I not? And besides, I don't even know what he looks like or anything. I only know his name because you told me a few minutes ago." Carmel flashed her a smile, showing her perfect set of white teeth but her eyes were still on the screen on the table before her.

"Seriously?" Alexa almost screamed in shock but she covered her mouth quickly. "You shouldn't say that in any corner of this company or else you will be a laughing stock."

"Like I care." Carmel rolled her eyes as she rested her chin on the knuckles of her free hands.

"But seriously Carmel. Everyone in this company knows about the boss. Even the recruits know about him. But well, whatever."

"All I'm trying to tell you is that in case of future events, you should be careful when it comes to the boss. He can kill you or kick you out of the company and you know how hard we worked to be here today." Alexa warned with a frown.

But Carmel didn't say a word making Alexa sit quietly looking at her friend who looked up at her when she kept mute for ten minutes and she wasn't doing anything else but staring at her.

"Nothing more to say, hmm?" Carmel asked as she started to print out all the designs she had checked.

She stretched her arms as Alexa stood up to take the papers coming out of the printer.

"Nothing." Alexa harrumphed, making Carmel sigh a sigh of relief.

"I heard that."

Thirty minutes after Carmel arrived, she was almost done with all the designs when Morgan rushed in looking as though she had seen a ghost.

"Everyone, you have five minutes to round up and arrange everything. Boss is on his way to our department right now." Morgan thundered.

Everyone started preparing in a hurry but only Carmel was sitting peacefully, taking her time to complete what she was doing.

"Ashton, are you done with the design checking?" Morgan asked.

"Yes. This is the last one." Carmel replied, still sitting down and not even acting like someone important was coming.

Alexa could only sigh as she watched her best friend act nonchalantly.

Immediately Carmel dropped her pen, the doors to the department opened and some men walked in.

"Welcome to the design department boss." Morgan smiled at the front man.

But he didn't even spare her a glance. His gaze just raked through the whole hall filled with workers.

He had a tall figure and was putting on a black custom-made suit jacket. To match it, he wore a pair of black pants and a pair of limited-edition suede shoes. He seemed very refined and handsome.

He started moving forward to walk down the aisle and take a glance at everything. Carmel who hadn't lifted her head since he walked in because she was arranging the files well, finally looked up and a scream almost escaped her lips as she looked at the man who was their "boss"

"Oh no," Carmel whispered distinctly and Alexa heard it.

.

"What happened?" Alexa asked.

"I might get fired today."
