Chapter 76 - Nothing hurts more like love does.

Under the dreadingly gloomy rays of the dim blue sky, a lonely looking castle somewhere in the capital of the Maple Kingdom and inside the spacious master bedroom, where all sorts of luxury can be found inside. Kendra stood in front of the window, gazing her deep blue eyes melancholically at the silent and empty vicinity of the castle.

Suddenly, the door in the room creaks open, Kendra turns to see the familiar tall straight figure of Cliopatra; her wife. Behind her wife is a group of alpha nobles who are supporting Cliopatra's cause.

The golden blonde woman glances behind her as she raises her hand. "Halt your steps, I'll speak with her alone. Go leave and wait for our arrival at the event hall."

"Understood, your grace." The alpha nobles replied simultaneously, then they took a quick perverted glimpse at Kendra inside the room before receding back their footsteps outside and left.

The alpha woman's long legs sauntered on the red carpet, raising her chin high as she gaze her arrogant emerald eyes condescendingly at Kendra.

But Kendra didn't mind. She had been used to Clioapatra's attitude to her after their marriage. Kendra is just not sure why Cliopatra became like this. After all, before they got married; Cliopatra used to be warm and soft to Kendra, but suddenly, the alpha woman changed. Kendra can only assume that it was probably because Cliopatra lost her father, King Graham, during their marriage.

So Kendra always held great patience for her wife; she believed that as long as she stayed beside Cliopatra; it would make the other party realise that Cliopatra still had her as a family. That Cliopatra isn't alone in this world. That she still has a wife to return to as a home.

[Someday, my wife will return to her usual warm and soft loving nature.] Kendra reasoned in her mind, watching the alpha woman approach her with visible disgusted and disdainful expression.

"The mass is petitioning for your presence to appear in public, come with me and meet our people's expectation," Cliopatra demanded, standing a few feet away from Kendra.

"Whatever you command, my queen," said Kendra, smiling tenderly at her wife.

"Let's go now, before I lose my patience," Cliopatra said, waving her hand dismissively, beckoning for Kendra to follow outside. "Be grateful that I'm even allowing an omega like you to step outside this room. No one else will get the same privilege for someone of your standing. After all, not only are you not of noble birth, but you are even the daughter of that loathsome leader of the rebel army. Fortunately, he's already…dead."

Kendra nodded as the smile on her face faded a little, feeling hurt at how Cliopatra had been treating her as a wife. Still, Kendra plastered a patient warm smile to her wife as she obediently followed Cliopatra. Kendra believes that Cliopatra is only saying this out of spite, because Cliopatra no longer has a family aside from her; the wife.

Anyway, recently, Cliopatra has been requesting Kendra's assistance with a project, and Kendra felt delighted in her heart. After all, it's not often when Cliopatra asks for Kendra's help.

Not to mention that Cliopatra told her; that the project that they're doing is for the great benefit of the kingdom, so Kendra felt elated. Not only for herself but also for her people. In addition, by doing this, Kendra hopes that she could get her wife back; her loving wife back.

So anything that Cliopatra would ask of her, Kendra would do it with no question. If Cliopatra told her that she is just an omega, Kendra would accept it with no question. When Cliopatra told her to keep her distance away from her commoner relatives and friends, Kendra did it without question. Kendra pushed everyone away, so Cliopatra would look at Kendra again with loving eyes. If Cliopatra wants to use Kendra's power for a political friendship, Kendra would gladly do it without question. Kendra even befriended nobles for Cliopatra, because Cliopatra told her so.

Yet, no matter what Kendra did, Cliopatra did not turn to look at Kendra even for once with soft affectionate eyes. And everytime Kendra would see Cliopatra, Kendra would always smell other omega pheromones on Cliopatra's body.

However, it seems today is different. Cliopatra came home today, and Kendra is ecstatic. Because today is also her birthday. Kendra believes that Cliopatra probably came back for her.

Shortly after a long walk. Kendra and Cliopatra arrive at the event hall. Inside are all nobles dressed in their aristocratic outfit.

Cliopatra steps inside with Kendra following behind her. "My beloved compatriots, you are the treasure of this country, and I am delighted to have all of your full support of the project I started."

Applauds resounded from the crowd, raising their wine glasses as they cheered at Cliopatra's starting speech. On the other hand, Kendra only stood in silence behind Cliopatra, watching with brimming tender proudness in her eyes.

After the speech, everyone in the event hall celebrated merrily. Cliopatra left Kendra alone as she went to converse with other omega aristocrats. Meanwhile, the other alpha nobles approach Kendra with a friendly atmosphere, yet the glint of mischief in their eyes couldn't escape Kendra's sharp observation skills. But Kendra chose to ignore these things. After all, Cliopatra would be unhappy if Kendra made a scene during this harmonious atmosphere.

So Kendra has no choice but to let alpha nobles surround her. They made Kendra drink alcohol as entertainment, and she couldn't say no. Because Cliopatra would gaze at her sternly; as if telling Kendra not to refuse those advances from other alphas. As a result, Kendra got drunk.

The next thing Kendra knew, she found herself locked up inside a sealed transparent container. The container is restraining all of Kendra's mana, and it made Kendra become a powerless omega.

Those nobles that Kendra befriended made fun of her. They used their alpha pheromones to make Kendra react to them, but Kendra endured, looking for Cliopatra and waiting for her beloved to come save her again.

However, the one who came is Lory. It was her sister who came to save Kendra.

"We must hurry and leave Kendra, come and escape this forsaken place with me…!" Said Lory in a loud yet quiet whisper.

Kendra shook her head. "No, I need to see Cliopatra. I'm certain that she wouldn't let these things happen to me, Lory. Anyway, you should go and leave before anyone sees you with me," she said, scooting even more inside the transparent container.

Lory glared deadly. "Stop making trouble, don't you know that your oh so great wife just fooled you?"

"No that's not true!" Kendra argued. "Cliopatra is not someone who would do that!"

Lory clicks her tongue. "Your delusional love is filtering that damn woman's viciousness. Open your eyes Kendra! Look around you, what do you see? Can't you even tell that we're still technically inside one of her castles?!"

Kendra's eyes sting with tears as she shakes her head in disbelief, covering her ears; not wanting to listen. "No, that's not true…my wife…she…Cliopatra will not," she swallowed as she kept the words stuck in her throat.

Lory hiss, grabbing Kendra's wrist. "Damn it, Kendra! Just come with me first and you'll understand. Outside the castle, the crowd are all waiting for you, don't you understand that?!"

"Of course they're waiting to see me, I told you in the letter, didn't I? Cliopatra have been requesting for my help with one of her project to improve the well-being of the people in our country, so of cour…"

"Oh god, you didn't know?" Lory interrupted, gasping in utter shock, staring in pity at her Kendra.

Kendra, feeling oblivious of the situation, knitted her brows bewildered by Lory. "Know what?"

"Cliopatra framed you, Kendra," Lory stated, staring helplessly at Kendra. "The crowd outside is indeed waiting to see you…they're waiting for you to be sentenced to death."

Kendra hangs her mouth open, creasing her brows in doubt. "Why would they?"

Lory let out a sigh. "We don't have time, Kendra. First, we must escape this kingdom and…"

Blood suddenly surged from Lory's mouth as she vomited it on the floor; mana suddenly disappeared from her body as her legs went feeble, dropping to the ground. Kendra widens her eyes. Her wife, Cliopatra, struck an arrow at her sister's back.

"I finally captured this cunt," Cliopatra said, walking to the transparent container.

Kendra stared in disbelief. "Clio…what…what's going on?"

Cliopatra rolled her eyes as she closed the entrance of the sealed transparent container. "Stupid slut."

"Clio, what's going on…?" Kendra asked again, speaking each words more slowly.

"Shut your mouth," Cliopatra snarled, squinting her eyes menacingly at Kendra.

Kendra flinched, feeling scared and confused. She gulped as she moved her legs swiftly to Lory.

"I'm sorry, Kendra…" Lory, her sister, smiled helplessly at Kendra.

"Breath of fire, spirit of flames, turn my enemies into ashes!" Cliopatra chanted.

Kendra widened her eyes as the blazing embers of fire engulfed her and her sister. She felt her flesh being cooked, giving the scent of barbecued meat. The pain is so intense that Kendra doesn't know what to do. The pain was more than a thousand times painful when she got scalded by the boiling water in the kettle. Air also started diminishing in her lungs as they scream and weep, resounding loudly in the room. Kendra felt her skin melting from the burning flames, seeping through her flesh and bones, sending an unimaginable pain all over her. The blazing fire made her hysterical; she screamed as she bit by bit lost her reason.

Meanwhile, nobles started to enter inside, laughing boisterously as they watched Kendra and Lory burn alive.

"Set up the surveillance! Let the crowd outside watch these two die," Cliopatra said, gazing condescendingly at Kendra. She stood tall and arrogant, raising her chin as her emerald eyes watched indifferently at Kendra's melting body.

Kendra punched and hit the wall, but she couldn't do anything. Her mana was being restrained. Right now, she is just a powerless omega being burnt to death.

In Kendra's last dying moment, she turns to gaze at Cliopatra one last time, looking for an answer. Looking for the lost love that Kendra has always yearned for.

Yet, Cliopatra only looks at Kendra with disdainful emerald eyes.

As those memories returned back, Kendra felt suffocated and in pain, staring at the burning candle in a trance, feeling her heart is being ripped into pieces.

"*HAAAH!*" Kendra inhaled sharply, feeling out of breath as if being choked to death.

In truth, the betrayal that Kendra experienced is actually more painful than the fire itself. After all, nothing hurts more like love does.

"It's just an illusion," Kendra muttered, panting hard as sweat oozed out on every pores of her skin. "It's nothing but an illusion…"
