Chereads / I BECAME THE VILLAIN OF A NOVEL / Chapter 48 - Building tension.

Chapter 48 - Building tension.

Running footsteps echoed, making students glance at the empty staircase next to the corridor, and slowly, a woman wearing a white robe appeared.

The moment her ocean blue eyes saw who it was; Kendra immediately lost the curiosity in her heart. She already knew who this person was based on her memories from her original timeline.

This woman, Professor Francesca Vonjour, is their assigned professor for their first class which is called the Physiology of the Human Body.

In Kendra's original timeline, this woman will be known as the mother of physiology in the future, however, this woman is only a simple professor right now and has not achieved a great deal of research yet in the world of physiology.

What's more, Kendra knows that this person purposely came late, so tension will start between students while she isn't here. Actually, all professors in the Greenhorn building are all late; they all purposely came late in order to build tension between students.

Why build this tension?

This is in order to build silent competition between students, so these students would willingly compete with each other, maximising each other's potentials in the long run.

The woman's eyes were covered with round thick glasses, appearing like a nerd. While her arms are busy holding a stack of books; she runs up the stairs, stopping in front of the crowd of students.

Peeking her head to the side; the woman grinned showing her teeth covered with braces. "Hello, can anyone help me?" The woman said in an expectant voice.

The light coming from the lamp on the wall made it hard for anyone to look behind the woman's glasses, and instead, those glasses reflected the students like a class picture.

The students look at each other, waiting who will step up to help. However, no one came forward.

The reason behind this hesitation is simple.

Students who came from the nobility class will hesitate because they believe that this is a job that only servants should do. On the other hand, students who came from the commoner's class will hesitate, because they don't want to stand out and make others think they are from a commoner's family.

In her original timeline, Kendra voluntarily stepped up during this situation, and this exact moment was also the starting point where most noble students came to know; that she is from the commoner's class. This is where all Kendra's bullying started from the other students of the nobility class.

It all started when Nasrin started to point out that Kendra is from the commoner's family, and despite not having proof that Kendra is from the commoner's family, other noble students believed the words of the vicious woman.

Well, based on this ridiculous analogy; according to how the logic works behind a noble student's mind; the act of assisting someone is a job that only a servant would do, and this ridiculous mindset is what became the starting point of the harassment in Kendra's original timeline.

Recalling those memories made Kendra narrow her eyes as she remained still in her position. She will not help this time. Not because she is afraid that those despicable things will happen again.

What Kendra needs now are students who will have the opportunity to develop to their maximum potential, and these students will never get their chance; if she repeats what happened before and gets all the opportunities to herself.

Kendra may have been repeatedly harassed and bullied in her time, however, she also met many opportunities. Because Kendra never hesitated to make a decision, even though some decisions led her to be bullied; it also led her to opportunities. These chances are what made her so powerful from the rest of the students in her timeline.

That's why Kendra will only watch like a bystander this time. Anyway, it is not like this instructor needs her help. Kendra knows that this woman is much stronger than how she appears. After all, this woman will not become a professor in this academy if she's not capable.

Meanwhile, most students are all still hesitating to step forward as they gaze at each other, looking left and right to see who will move to help.

Seeing the hesitation on these students, Kendra resisted the urge to roll her eyes at this, feeling disappointed inwardly. Hesitation is not a good habit to develop. Especially if there is a war coming, but no one here knows what will happen in the future, and it's not like Kendra can just blurt this out.

[It's a shame that everyone is hesitating to gain the opportunity with this woman.] Kendra thought.

Students that will have an important role to play in the uprising in the future; Kendra wants nothing but to push them towards the woman, so they could gain the opportunity to grow.

As long as they step forward and help this nerdy woman; they will gain her approval and favour. Yet, no one among these new students knows how important it is to get the approval and favour of a professor in this academy, and Kendra is the only one who knows about it from the rest of these new students.

Kendra feels frustrated about this. She doesn't want this opportunity to fall from the wrong hands, but if she steps up, other students will lose the opportunity to grow.

Despite feeling disappointed in her heart, Kendra remains a polite smile plastered on her face at all times waiting for how things will unfold this time.

Faye, who is silently watching everyone turn to look at Kendra, leaning closer as she curiously whispers, "Kendra, why is everyone so hesitant to help the poor lady?"

Kendra glances at the brunette girl with a raised brow, looking at Faye amusedly. At that, an idea suddenly flashes in Kendra's mind as a sly thought appears in her head.

If it's Faye who would get the first opportunity, Kendra can rest assured because Faye can put it to good use. She is not worried that Faye will get harassed about helping that white robed woman, because this time, Kendra can protect Faye.

With those thoughts in mind, Kendra also leans closer to Faye, whispering, "then why don't you go step forward and help her?"

As if enlighten; Faye widened her eyes as she smiled, looking at Kendra. "You're right," Faye replied, then her green eyes went to look at the woman in white robes as she nodded at herself, and said, "I'll go and help her now, Kendra."

Kendra smiled proudly at Faye. She knew that Faye would come forward as long as she raised this idea.

Faye is really built differently from the rest of these students, and as a friend; Kendra can't help but feel proud.

Her ocean blue eyes stared proudly at Faye's back, walking towards the nerdy woman. Yet, before Faye can even reach the nerdy woman; the scumbag princess blocks the path in front of the brunette girl.

Kendra frowns at this as she hurriedly walks, stopping next to Faye protectively.

"Ladies, let me handle this," Cliopatra said, smiling at Faye in particular.

Cliopatra took a quick glance at Kendra's body, smirking at herself, but it only lasted for a few short seconds that no one noticed, then her green eyes gaze at Faye again.

Green to green met and made eye contact. Cliopatra smiled smugly at this.

Kendra's narrowed eyes deepened, looking at Cliopatra's gloating face. Just seeing that face again is enough to ruin her day.

Still, Kendra remains polite on the surface. "That's unnecessary," Kendra said with a polite smile.

Clioptra glanced at Kendra again, raising her chin as she looked condescendingly at Kendra. "Pardon me, but an omega should not do the task that alphas should do, and more importantly, this is a kind of duty that only servants should do," then she smiled smugly again looking at everyone as she continued, "does everyone agree?"

The students from the commoner class remain silent; they watch the noble students nod their heads, replying:

"Princess is right."

"I agree, omegas should stay on the sidelines and wait for alphas to do this task."

"No, this is a job for a servant."

"Right, right…they should both be a servant and an alpha."

Cliopatra's arrogant smile deepened hearing the response from the students. It's like those responses fueled the ego and narcissism in her heart.

Kendra squinted her eyes, plastering a calm smile on her face. "How do you even know that we're omegas?"

Cliopatra narrowed her eyes back at Kendra, smiling as she raised her chin arrogantly. "I just know based on how weak and frail your bodies look."

Kendra's blood boiled, but she didn't show any single emotion on her face except for the usual amiable polite smile.

At that reaction, Cliopatra then turned to Faye. "No need to trouble yourself, my lady. Let us alphas handle this."

Faye pulled up her brows together, stretching her mouth with a wry smile. "I don…"

"No, it's fine, no need to thank me," Cliopatra interrupted, winking at Faye, then she glanced at Emilia and expectantly said, "as the future alpha queen, I request of you aspiring knight, Emilia Iscariot, to help the poor madam on my behalf."

"Yes, go and help the poor madam on behalf of the princess," one of the students second in motion. "And you're the nearest anyway."

Emilia, who was standing closer to the nerdy woman, stared at that certain student with narrowed eyes.

"Emilia," Cliopatra called again in a warning tone.

"At your command, milady," Emilia replied politely, bowing her head to her waist. After that, she straightened up her back, walking to the white robe woman.

On the other hand, while everyone is busy with their own tension; the nerdy woman only remains smiling, showing her braces as she watches in silence.

Kendra doesn't like how this is all going, but since Emilia is already a member of the rebel army; Kendra can rest assured that the opportunity that Emilia will get from this will also help the rebel army.

At that, she pulled Faye next to her, and the brunette girl seemed to understand, nodding her head at Kendra understandably. The duo watch Emilia sauntered towards the nerdy woman along with the students.

"Miss, let me help you," Emilia said, taking most of the books from the nerdy woman's arm.

The nerdy woman smiled at Emilia and said, "thank you young one, may I know your name?"

Emilia nodded as she smiled back. "Emilia Iscariot, miss, it's my pleasure to be of help."

Afterwards, the nerdy woman opened the door, and as soon as the door opened, the lamps inside also lit up, showing the inside of the lecture hall.

They all entered inside the lecture hall, seeing a mini amphitheatre appear in their sight. Students crowded the room, sitting randomly in the lecture theatre seats.

"Please put the books here, Emilia," said the nerdy woman to Emilia, pointing at the small desk in the middle of the small podium.

Emilia nodded, placing the books on top of the wooden desk, then she turned around, seeing Faye on the first row waving her hand in the air, beckoning for Emilia to sit next to her and Kendra.

Meanwhile, Kendra only smiled lightly as an indication of invitation as well.

Emilia smiled seeing this as she walked towards the two beauty. She met Faye a few days ago and the two had a good start since they both love familiars. Emilia only grew her liking towards Faye more and more; as she came to know the personality of the brunette girl. Not to mention that Faye is good friends with Kendra.

And Kendra is the daughter of Emilia's leader and that's the only reason why she was put here. After all, she is part of the rebel army because of her elder brother, Jabez Iscariot. If it was not because of the rebel army, then the two of them will be nothing now.

Emilia might be an aspiring knight in front of the public's eye, but deep inside, she is a rebel and would always be part of the rebel army.

That's why Emilia will do her best to guard and protect Kendra. This is what the leader of the rebel army wanted Emilia to do, and this is also why she is here. Even though Emilia knows that Kendra probably has no idea of her real identity, she still wants to carry out her duty to the army and for the sake of her leader. And befriending Faye is part of her plan, so Emilia can protect Kendra openly.

Seeing those two waiting for her, Emilia started to walk towards where they were.

However, Cliopatra who sits at the second row behind Faye, knitted her brows seeing this, so she opens her mouth and says, "Emilia, sit next to me."

Hearing the commanding tone of Cliopatra, Emilia has no choice but to nod her head politely as a response.

Faye who saw this slump her shoulders dejectedly.

Emilia smiled helplessly at Faye in return before moving up to sit next to Cliopatra. As soon as Emilia sat next to Cliopatra, the princess leaned her head close to Emilia whispering in a warning tone in her ears.

"Faye is mine," said Cliopatra possessively. "Don't act so friendly towards her again," the princess added, then she sat back again, smiling at Faye who turned to look at them.

Faye turns to look forward again, whispering something to Kendra.

Cliopatra chuckled at this. "She's so cute."

Emilia narrowed her eyes at this. The only reason why she sat here is to investigate Cliopatra.

Her other mission is to investigate if the royal princess can rule the next throne with equality and justice. Yet, seeing Cliopatra's attitude, Emilia concluded that this princess is not qualified.

Emilia decided to report this to her leader as soon as possible after the day ends. She doesn't think that a person like Cliopatra can become a wise ruler for their kingdom.

"I understand why you took a liking to her, but you can't pursue her because Faye is mine, Emilia," Cliopatra said again in a whisper; her jealous green eyes remained focused on Faye's back.

"Pardon me princess, but the two of you are not together yet," Emilia replied, whispering back, then she stood up not waiting for Cliopatra to reply, leaving the taken aback princess.

At that, Emilia went to the front row sitting next to Faye. The moment Emilia sat next to Faye, Kendra nodded her head at Emilia like a polite greeting, and this made Faye turn her head to the side curiously.

When Faye saw Emilia beside her, her green eyes lit up as she smiled dazzlingly.

"I thought you're going to sit next to the princess?" Faye said in a delighted tone and surprise, looking at Emilia sitting next to her.

Emilia smiled, seeing Faye's bright face, spreading her lips to respond, "well, I changed my mind because I…"

"Because I said to her that it's more fun to sit in the front row," Cliopatra interrupted, sitting on the other side of Emilia.

In the front row are Kendra, Faye, Emilia, and Cliopatra in respective order.

While the other students in the back are all finding their seats, and the nerdy woman is busy setting up her desk; the four in the first row gaze at each other's eyes with some tension surrounding them.
