The middle aged man was about 200 meters away from Basilius also spotted him, making the man immediately shout "hey", and begin walking in his direction.
Basilius happy he had found someone else was just about to shout some greetings back when he suddenly spotted something that made him stiffen up and put a lump in his throat.
The man confused why the boy didn't respond and stopped walking, suddenly heard a noise behind him and turned around.
Behind the man less than a meter apart stood a tall 2.20 meter tall humanoid creature, its body was completely grey and looked extremely skinny.
It had a small strange misshapen head on its incredibly long neck, and had four long arms, two on each side one under the other.
The man stumbled in fear, falling on his back, the creature intensely staring at the man came closer with its head until the space between their faces was only 10 centimeters.
With it's large unblinking emotionless black pupils it stared, although emotionless it seemed to look with a vague hint of resemblance at the man
Freaking out, the man frantically reached out for a piece of destroyed concrete next to him and hit the creature with it against its head.
It was now the creature turn to fall back as it screamed in a strangely high pitch as it seemed to be hurt, the man having let go of the brick quickly began running in Basilius's direction, making the hairs on his neck rise up.
The creature bleeding from the earlier hit, did not roll in agony for long at it quickly got up and ran after the man in an animalistic manner, using its four hands and feet making it significantly faster catching up to the man just when it was about halfway to Basilius.
The creature pounced on the man making him stumble and fall again, after that it used it arms to hold the man down while viciously using it's other free arms and mouth to tear into the man causing deep lacerations and sometimes ripping chunks of flesh away, as the man began desperately calling out for help.
Meanwhile Basilius frozen in terror was already hidden behind some large pieces of concrete so the creature could not see him.
"HELP, HElp me, Augh help please"
The man's cries for help were becoming weaker and weaker until it was barely audible.
Basilius hearing this got pain in heart, however his body sweating and shaking profusely refused to move, terrified off the creature in front of him.
Eventually Basilius no longer heard the man, thinking it was over and the creature had maybe left the man alone Basilius poked his head over the rubble to see what was going on, there he saw the creature feasting on the body of the man.
The man's lifeless eyes were facing Basilius haunting him, telling him it was his fault, scaring Basilius even more.
Tears streamed out of his eyes as he felt an extreme sense of guilt wash over his body, although he didn't know the man why didn't he do anything to help, together they could perhaps have defeated it?
Unable to take the sight anymore Basilius went back down hiding himself under the rubble shaking back and forth with only two words constantly repeating in the back of his mind "I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry".
Eventually the creature was finished feasting upon the man. Hearing the slight sound of something moving the creature went to investigate it, seeing a small mound of rubble the creature poked its head over, only to be met by the sight of a human with fresh tears over its cheeks staring at it with impossibly wide eyes.
Basilius, caught up in his guilt, did not hear the creature walk towards him until it was extremely close and poked its head above the rubble he was hiding at.
At that moment when Basilius was directly staring into the creature's eyes he suddenly stopped crying, his eyes grew extremely wide and something snapped inside of him.
Grabbing a broken metal pipe next to him, Basilius swiftly stood up and with the sharp end of it, before the creature even had time to process what was happening stabbed the creature its eye.
The monstrosity screamed while clutching the pipe in its profusely bleeding pierced eye although any movement of the pipe only caused it further pain, however Basilius wasn't done as he immediately jumped on the creature making it fall down as he ripped out the metal pipe in the creatures and continuously stabbed the creature all the while screaming like a madman, "DIE! DIE! DIE!"
The creature tried to get Basilius off him, however before it could it could got stabbed in the throat and was already dying leaving only sporadic movements with its arms that left small cuts on Basilius's body, after thirty seconds the creature was dead however Basilius continued to stab it for 5 more minutes.
After five minutes Basilius seemed to have calmed down, he looked expressionlessly at the mangled corpse of the creature in front of him, he let go of the metal pipe that kept standing straight in the creature's flesh and stood up to walk towards the now man body.
Standing next to the deceased man with clouded eye's Basilius fell on his knees and said in a barely audible voice "I'm sorry".
Basilius then proceeded to close the man's eyes, although the image of the man's haunting gaze didn't seem to leave Basilius.
For the next hour he began clearing out wreckage in order to make a two meter deep hole, in where he placed the body of the man whose name was still unknown to him.
After the grave was completed in silence, Basilius went over and got the metal pipe he used to defeat the creature and stuck it in the place the man was buried as a sort of gravestone.
Having calmed down a bit and thinking more rationally Basilius proceeded to once more go back to the creature to inspect its body, and maybe figure out what it actually was, as right now Basilius only knew three things for sure " The world has being destroyed, at least as far as I can see, there are monsters now, and there are human survivors so I am not alone at least", that was the only positive thing Basilius took out from this experience and that the monsters were killable.
Basilius was now standing in front of the creature and was inspecting its body with a puzzled expression, when Basilius had gotten closer to the creature he felt a strange sense was drawing him to a place on the creature.
Basilius had never felt such a sensation before however the feeling he got was as if something important was in front of him, unable to stop his curiosity Basilius went to the spot he was feeling the sensation coming from which led him to the left chest of the creature.
Feeling the sensation being inside the creature's left chest and still not thinking entirely straight, Basilius was overcome by this urge.
Basilius then proceeded to cut open the chest of the creature with another piece of sharp metal he saw laying around, although disgusted by the smell and sight of what he was seeing for some reason his gut feeling was stronger, Basilius then took out the heart of the creature and cut it in halve where he found a small dark purple orb.
Covered in the blood of the creature, his gut was telling him this was something very important.
Wanting to pick it up, he touched the purple orb, making the orb instantly dissolve into smoke and enter Basilius's body.
An Immediately pain assaulted him, as he felt like his muscles and bones were moving around trying to escape his body, unable to endure it he began screaming out loud.
Basilius desperately held onto his consciousness in fear that if he didn't he would never wake up again. After what seemed like an eternity Basilius finally felt the pain slowly go away as his slipped into unconsciousness.
