Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: A chaotic day

「4th April 」

The class began as usual. However, this time, Chabashira-sensei had a very satisfied look on her face. Is she going to announce it? That I got accepted into the student council?

Yeah, most likely the case. I wonder how Horikita-senpai's sister reacts to this information. In any case, this lesson might be a little bit amusing.

"Ahem. I have a small announcement to make. It's a good one, don't worry. Yesterday in the afternoon, one student in this class got accepted into the student council." Chabashira-sensei said, making the class fully tense.

"Whaaat. Who?" the one who said that was Horikita-senpai's little sister, Horikita Suzune. She was rather left bewildered, upon the sudden revelation that a student from this class is joining the student council.

"You're curious, aren't you? But before I'm revealing that student's identity, I want to praise them first. Being accepted on day three into the student council is something nobody achieved before. Furthermore, the president himself was the one who requested the student's admission to the student council."

"Woaahh, who is it?" Ike asked in a demanding tone.

"Yeah, yeah, Sae-sensei, who is it?" Karuizawa-san asked.

"Is it Hirata-kun?" someone from the girls exclaimed.

"Hirata-kun? No, I think it's more likely to be Kurushima-kun." Mori-san exclaimed in return.

"Woaahh, now that you mention it, that could be the case," she replied.

Horikita-san listened thoroughly to the conversation between the two of them and began to stare at me.

"Chabashira-sensei, please tell us who it is," Horikita said in an inpatient tone.

"Okay, okay, I had my fun. It's Kurushima." She expressed with a proud tone.

"As I thought, Kurushima-kun, you were able to achieve it," Hirata said in a relieved and happy tone.

"Humph, I was right all along. Who else besides Kurushima-kun would be suited in this class for the student council." Mori-san exclaimed.

"You mean who else besides Kurushima-kun and Hirata-kun, don't you, Mori-san?" one of the girls exclaimed.

"Yeah, him too," she replied.

"I'm glad we don't need to debate about this further, Mori-chan," she said in a relieving tone.

"It's y-you? H-how?" Horikita-san demanded for an answer.

"Who knows?" I replied and concentrated on the lesson further.

"Kurushima-kun, uh…congrats." Ayanokoji-kun expressed in a stoic tone.

"Thank you, Ayanokoji-kun." I replied in return.

"Oy, Yamauchi, he steals all the girls from us," Ike said to Yamauchi.

"Ike, you still don't understand. We're giving him just a head start." Yamauchi said to Ike and suddenly announced. "Next week, all of you will see the true might of the Olympian Swimmer, Yamauchi Haruki. Please, make yourself ready, girls, to experience the best moment of your life."

"Woaahh, Haruki, how cool." Ike exclaimed.

"I know, bro. I know." Yamauchi expressed.

"Oh, no. The two idiots began to talk again." Karuizawa-san expressed in a sorrowful tone.

"Yes, sadly we can't mute them," Matsushita-san exclaimed.

"Yeah, sadly," she responded while looking like wanting to tear up.

"Oy, whom do you call idiots? You shouldn't insult Hirata and Kurushima like that." Yamauchi expressed.

"Yeah, what did Hirata and Kurushima do to you?" Ike asked.

"Bro, those are women's. We don't know how they work. Even our ancestors didn't know that, so how should we?" Yamauchi expressed.

"Haruki, you're so wise. Please, teach me your insights." Ike exclaimed in an uproar.

"Ike, Ike, Ike. I know I'm wise, I'm the perfect human after all." Yamauchi exclaimed.

"Woaahh, how cool." Ike expressed.

"Hahaha, I think you're mistaken, trash-kun. If someone like you could ever be classified as the perfect human, the world would be in a sorry state indeed. I, on the other hand, am the epitome of perfection. My intelligence, my charm, they all far surpass anyone else in this room." Koenji replied and continued.

"Now excuse me, I need to admire this god-like reflection staring back at me in this millions of Yen costing mirror," Koenji exclaimed with a self-satisfied grin.

"Hahaha, Koenji always likes to joke, Ike. In truth, Koenji is my bodyguard. But don't tell him that, or else I need to fire him." Yamauchi expressed.

"Woaahh, I knew it. Koenji and you always have this rivalry between you. Now I understand, that Koenji does this as a façade to protect you. Haruki, are you also an heir?" Ike exclaimed in an uproar.

"Ike, Ike, Ike. I'm more than that. I'm prince Yamauchi Haruki, from the imperial family. But don't tell anybody here, or I might steal all the girls from Hirata and Kurushima. I'm giving them a head start."

He exclaimed, and their conversation continued in these directions. From being the sole survivor of a plane crash to killing bears with one punch, to...

If I had listened further, I might have jumped out of the window.

This lesson was…challenging.

As I walked out of the classroom and headed to the rooftop, I felt someone following me. I turned around and saw Horikita Suzune approaching me.

"What can I do for you, Horikita-san?" I asked.

"How did you get into the student council?" she demanded.

"It would be better for you to ask your brother about that, wouldn't you say?" I replied, with a small grin.

She looked surprised. "My brother? You knew about him?"

"It's obvious, based on a few facts. Same surname, your obsession with the student council, and your interest in wanting to get admitted in the student council." I explained.

"How did you figure that out without ever talking to me or getting to know me?" she asked.

"I could say it's intuition, observation, or just a coincidence. You decide," I said with a smirk.

"I'm going with option three, a coincidence," she said with a hint of annoyance in her tone.

"Goodbye," she said and walked away, leaving me standing there alone.

As all of the classes came to an end, I walked out of the classroom and saw someone waiting for me.

"Are you Kurushima Kaoru? I've been sent by the President," the girl with purple hair asked.

"Yes, that's me. And you are…Tachibana-senpai, correct?" I asked.

"Yes. I see the President has already told you about me," Tachibana-senpai said in a shy tone.

"He did mention that his secretary would be briefing me on my responsibilities in the student council," I confirmed.

"Great. Follow me, then," Tachibana-senpai said as she led me to the student council office. "This is where you'll be working with me as a secretary. If you want to move up the ranks, you'll have to impress the President."

"Thank you, Tachibana-senpai. So, what should I do now?" I asked.

"For today, nothing. I'll just explain your daily tasks to you," Tachibana-senpai said.

Just as she was about to continue, the door opened and a tall, blonde-haired guy walked in. "Tachibana, who's this?" he asked.

"This is Kurushima Kaoru, the new student council member appointed by the President," Tachibana-senpai introduced me.

"Ah, I remember now. You're the perfect scorer, right? Kurushima Kaoru, was it?" he said, offering me a handshake.

"Yes, that's me. And you are the Vice President, Nagumo-senpai," I said as I shook his hand.

"Please, just call me Nagumo. It's impressive that you were able to deduce my position, Kurushima. Manabu-senpai has made the right choice in appointing you to the council," Nagumo said with a grin.

"Thank you for the compliment, Nagumo-senpai," I replied.

As he let go of my hand, I noticed he had increased the strength of his grip. I followed suit, matching his strength without flinching.

He looked at me with surprise and then increased his grip even more. I did the same but decided to stop before going too far. I didn't want to offend the future President after all.

"Interesting. I'll remember your name, Kurushima," Nagumo said before walking out of the council office.

"Is everything alright, Kurushima?" Tachibana-senpai asked, looking a bit worried.

"I'm fine, Tachibana-senpai. Thank you for worrying about me," I reassured her with a smile.

Tachibana-senpai blushed and turned away, clearly embarrassed by my comment.

"Alright, let's get back to discussing your tasks for the council," she said, trying to steer the conversation back to explanatory on my tasks.

"Now then, let's get started on your training as a student council secretary. I'll show you around the office and explain your duties. But first, let me introduce you to the rest of the council members," Tachibana-senpai said, leading me around the office and introducing me to the other members.

"This is Kurushima Kaoru, the newly elected member by the student council president," she said, as she introduced me to the other members.

"So, you're the first-year student, the president wanted to recruit," he exclaimed in surprise.

"If Manabu-senpai wanted to recruit you, you must be extraordinary. After all, Manabu-senpai is respected and idolized by all of us for his hard work and dedication to the student council. He sets a high standard for us to follow and is always willing to help and guide us. I am honored to be working under him and I am sure you will feel the same way as you get to know him better."

"Ah, I should perhaps introduce myself beforehand," he said, realizing I didn't know his name. "I'm Ikuto Kiriyama, a student of 2-A," he introduced himself.

"Even though Tachibana-senpai introduced me, I feel like I should do it myself," I exclaimed, with a sense of awkwardness.

"I'm Kurushima Kaoru, a student of 1-D. A pleasure to meet you, Ikuto-senpai," I exclaimed, as I offered him a handshake.

"1-D?" he exclaimed in surprise. "Impossible?" he added. "You are from Class D? Are you sure you're not joking?" I heard him exclaim in surprise, alongside the other student council members, who had similar responses.

"Senpai, is there anything wrong with me being in Class D?" I asked, completely anticipating his following answer.

"No, of course not, Kurushima-kun," he expressed, in an awkward tone, realizing that he is restricted from telling more.

"Pleasure to be working with you, Kurushima-kun," he exclaimed, as he accepted my handshake.

"Senpai, would you mind exchanging phone numbers with me?" I asked. "After all, it would be beneficial if we could contact each other easily in case of any urgent matters or for any questions that may arise." I expressed a valid reason.

"Yes, of course, Kurushima-kun," he responded, as we both exchanged our phone numbers.

Meanwhile, the remaining other student council members introduced them to me while we also exchanged phone numbers.

"Kurushima, I'll explain to you the rest of your tasks," Tachibana-senpai expressed, as we walked through the office while my duties from organizing meetings and handling paperwork were explained.

She also gave me a tour of the office, showing me where everything was and how to use the equipment.

"You'll have to work hard, but I believe you have what it takes to do a great job," Tachibana-senpai said.

"Thank you, Tachibana-senpai. I won't disappoint you." I replied in a determined tone. Although, I wasn't determined for the work, but how I could use my position in the student council to my advantage.

"Here, take my number too," Tachibana-senpai said, handing me her phone in a bit of embarrassment.

"As the secretaries, it's important for us to have each other's contact information."

"Of course, Tachibana-senpai. I understand," I replied, trying to hide my amusement at her embarrassment.

"Good. Now, let's get back to the end of the tour," she said, trying to regain her composure.

I suddenly however couldn't resist the urge of teasing her. "Are you sure there's nothing else you want to clarify, Tachibana-senpai? Like, any false ideas I might get?"

Tachibana-senpai's face turned red as she stammered, "I-I-I-I don't know what you're talking about."

I chuckled in fun. "Relax, Tachibana-senpai. I'm just joking. I know what you meant."

"Please, Kurushima. Try to restrain yourself from teasing me," Tachibana-senpai said, still flustered.

"I'm sorry, Tachibana-senpai. I'll try to be more professional from now on," I said, trying to sound apologetic.

A/N: Midway through writing this chapter I was contemplating whether to discard the fic or not.

But Fate seemed to have other ideas, luckily or not. Coincidentally the moment I opened Netflix today, the immediate recommendation was a revenge series...

Well...and after watching the series, I am once again sprouding full of ideas, which even reach to the Island Exam, and to the Zodiac Exam.

Anyways, I decided to make this Chapter a bit more humorous. How did you find it? Ike´s and Yamauchi´s conversations I mean. Too be honest, I wasn´t sure what I was writing there myself.

And also...

At the end of the Chapter I also just wanted to apologize to one of my favorite character´s Manabu Horikita for doing this.

I feel kinda bad now doing this small development with Tachibana.

Hopefully I am forgiven.

Well that´s everything from my side. But how do you find this humorous and unusual chapter I have written? I would love to hear your opinion. I really do.

And, how do you think the fic will develop? Before I am finishing this, I am curious about something.

What is your initial impression of Kurushima, from the 9 Chapters currently?

Well, that was all.
