Chapter 98 - EPISODE 93: JOKI PART I: BASICS

Josec, Harry, Buern, Estelle and Jason stood before the three Elders of the Phoenix Clan. The six Students and three Elders stood in the arena where Josec, Harry and Buern had dueled William Fenix.

"Today, you'll be undergoing a special set of lessons under the three of us. These lessons are meant to sharpen your comprehension of joki" William Fenix explained.

"Understanding joki will help you widen your knowledge of its applications" Lucas Bane explained.

"This is especially necessary since you six have reached a level where you are able to fuse joki to generate a Fusion Psychorage" Victor Vern explained.

"I will begin my explanation of joki now" William Fenix said.

The Students nodded.

"Joki is the energy utilized by Jo-lan Martial Artists. It is a kind of life force energy every human inherits at birth. It is to an extent hereditary in that, the composition of joki for each individual can be inherited from parents or ancestors. The composition of joki for each individual is unique. As such, there can never be two humans who possess exactly the same joki composition. This uniqueness extends to the beginning of time and will extend to the end of time. However, joki is not completely determined by hereditary factors. It can also be shaped by experience. Joki usually lies dormant within an individual until a person encounters Jo-lan within the Book Of Jo-lan, bonds with a Psychorage and inherits a Jo-lan Class. Once a human inherits a Jo-lan Class, their awareness of joki is sharpened and they begin to learn and hone skills focused around the abilities and strengths of their Jo-lan Class" William Fenix explained.

"I see" Fleur said.

"My dad explained the basics to me during our many training sessions" Harry noted.

"My dad did too" Buern noted.

"I also underwent tutorship back in Avalon" Estelle noted.

"This is the first time I've heard this though I kinda understand thanks to my Mom's lecture on Wavelengths" Josec admitted.

"Fleur and I are kinda new to this" Jason admitted.

Fleur laughed.

"Actually, Yggdrasil taught me quite a bit" Fleur admitted.

"Once a Jo-lan Warrior begins to hone the skills nurtured by their Class, they gradually come to a comprehension of their individual strengths and weaknesses. These strengths and weaknesses are mostly determined by experience. To deal with their weaknesses and sharpen their strengths, Jo-lan Warriors predominantly focus on expanding their range of experiences. The vaster one's experience is, the more versatile one's joki becomes and the greater ability one has for adjusting one's joki to suit each unique situation" Lucas Bane explained.

"Among many things, joki determines one's raw elemental affinities. Elemental Affinities refer to how well a person can utilize a particular element. A person with an affinity for fire for instance is well versed in the utilization of fiery techniques. A person with an affinity for wind on the other hand excels at utilizing wind techniques. Then we have Elemental Affinities with regards to the elements themselves. This has to do with an element's ability to amplify the effects of another element. That was why you had to undertake lessons on the Elemental Balance. Finally, this brings us to Wavelengths. Wavelengths have to do with the uniqueness, nature and quality of a person's joki. For instance multiple fire users have the ability to generate flame, however, the temperature and intensity of their techniques vary" Victor Vern explained. "These variations with regards to joki and Elemental Affinities of the same type are what we refer to as Wavelengths".

"I see. This is certainly a more thorough explanation of joki than I've ever been given" Buern admitted. "Could you explain the Psychorage Improvisation as well?" she asked.

William Fenix smiled.

"The Psychorage Improvisation is a Jo-lan Art Jo-lan Warriors of the past came up with to overcome the limitations imposed on them by their raw elemental affinities. It is an art rooted in the study of nature and the interaction amongst the elements. Jo-lan Warriors of the past studied and came to the realization that it was possible for one element to generate or transform into a new element. By replicating this process, they gradually learnt to utilize elements they did not naturally have an affinity for. Utilizing the Psychorage Improvisation predominantly involves three steps; Generation, Assimilation and Equipping. Generation involves the ability to generate or create the element you wish to utilize; Assimilation involves absorbing that element into your body via your joki and Equipping involves fusing the element with your joki and releasing it. During this process, your joki undergoes alteration to match the assimilated element" William Fenix explained.
