Chapter 41 - Retribution I

The war between ethernals and wanderers kept going frenzy. The battlefield, a solar system thousands of times bigger than the usual ones, hosted a conflict that could be seen within all of its planets, and its aftereffects could be felt across the entirety of it.

But something greater would soon come to happen. And it so did.

Walkure, leading the horde of ethernals, kept triumphantly banishing and destroying all voyagers and spaceships that tried to approach her. It was impossible to fight back against her banishment, and her space-time fractures would seize all of them equally. If they happened to reach her before she performed those, they were simply outsmarted in the art of the sword and beaten in nanoseconds.

Everything was all going well for her...until they appeared.

At first, Walkure didn't seem to bother much, but she noticed an unusual and dark spaceship approaching the horde of ethernals. The spaceship stopped, and then, seconds later, it exploded.

This explosion alone destroyed and killed all ethernals that were close to it. More specifically, it vaporized all ethernals within a range of 10000 kilometers. Thousands died instantly, despite their immortalities.

Walkure noticed this, but she didn't think it was that big of a deal. However, what she didn't notice, and that which was in fact a very big deal, was what was hidden within said spaceship, which was released after the explosion.

First, it was something that approached her at speeds faster than she could properly perceive.

Second, it hit her right in her abdomen. The impact was strong enough to throw her far away into the horizon. If she didn't regain composure, she would have been tossed outside the solar system, but fortunately, she maintained her balance quickly.

What the hell happened?

Walkure was confused. She did not see the attack coming, and thus she had no idea what she was confronting. Walkure has very acute senses, being capable of detecting even the smallest quark moving within a range of 300 meters. Yet, she did not see or detect anything.

Then, it happened again. This time, she was hit on her left leg. However, this time, she could briefly see a figure moving to her sides and doing an attack that she could not perceive. Nevertheless, she couldn't counterattack this time either. After the impact, her body was left spinning, but she quickly maintained balance.

"Show yourself, coward."

Then, it did as it was requested.

"Hey!"

A figure started talking behind her. This fact alone left Walkure puzzled. Not only the thing was too fast for her eyes to see, but she could also not sense its presence even when it was right behind her. Was this the last card upon the Wanderers' sleeves?

Walkure turned around and looked at the creature. Though, in her mind, she wasn't sure if it could be called a creature. Its body was very similar to a human, but it also contained fangs, yellow eyes, blonde hair with two twin tails, and its physiology resembled that of a male child. He wore a sleeveless white shirt and white pants that went all the way to his feet."My name is Rephidim, the main assaulter of the accursed ones. We have orders to end you, so we must, sorry. Well, not like telling you this matters since you are going to die anyway.

"The wanderer said with a smug smile on his face.

Rephidim then took a martial art stance and built up an aura around himself. Walkure could notice his power was increasing. He was going to attack.

"I don't have time for your tricks."

Walkure said this as she waved her hand. Her banishment technique would deal with whatever opponent that was far too troublesome to engage directly, and this seemed the perfect opportunity in her eyes.However...nothing happened.

What?

Walkure thought to herself, unable to discern why her technique wasn't working.

"Oh, some kind of teleportation technique. Sorry, but that's not going to work."

Indeed. The accursed ones were entities that were artificially created by the Supreme Council to fight whatever impossibility. And for that to happen, the entities themselves would have to be impossibly strong.

The existence of an accursed one within space-time could not be influenced. That is, nothing that would ever hinder or manipulate their nature would be able to succeed, as their very presence emanated a space-time anomaly that denied any such change based on that premise. Controlling fate and causality was worthless. Teleportation and banishment were ignored. Trying to toss them into portals didn't work, and even the erasure of their being was ineffective. They were creatures whose nature within reality could not be indirectly influenced. The only way to properly damage them would be through direct attacks, such as punches, slashes, explosions, and so on.

She had to take them head-on. No easy tricks.

"Humph. No matter, In the end, you are all going to be properly penalized, in one way or another. I give you my word."

"Is that so? Unfortunately, I'm afraid to say you won't be capable of fulfilling that promise of yours. The difference between us and your kind is as much as the distance between the heavens and earth. Here, allows me to demonstrate."

Then, just like before, Rephidim jumped from the vacuum of space he was standing on and kicked Walkure in her chest. The impact tossed her away. Before she would even maintain her balance, Rephidim was already behind her and performed another kick, this time at her head. Then, after being tossed into yet another direction, Walkure slashed away in Rephidim's direction, sending waves that tore space and time asunder. Rephidim saw this but he didn't bother, as his body went through those completely unaffected. His existence within space-time could not be changed, after all, so any attack technique that relied on the control of space-time was naturally useless.

Following this, he approached Walkure at quick speeds and grabbed her head with his right hand. This event was too fast for Walure to even counterattack. However, she could briefly hear what he said at that moment.

"How about we go on a trip?"

Then, as he said that, with his hand holding Walkure's face, he jumped onto a faraway planet at impossible speeds and shoved the ethernal's face into the rock-solid ground of it, causing an immense crater that dwarfed moons in size. Next, while still holding her head, he traveled across said planet seventy-two times in moments, all while burying her face into the ground. Afterward, he threw her body into the other side of the planet, causing an impact that shook the entire celestial object up to its core. Despite all of this, Walkure's body had yet to suffer actual physical harm.

"So, how is the taste of rock? Not many people would survive this attack you see, hence why I'm asking. I also really hope you are not done yet. That would be a waste. Do you have any idea how boring it is on that planet? They shut us in containment rooms, where we do nothing unless we are called. We were created as very circumstantial weapons, you see."

Within the underground, Walkure, who was deeply buried by an immense amount of detritus, suddenly elevates all of the octodecillion kilograms of debris upwards with a single movement. Her face was serious. Anyone who looked at her could tell she wasn't in a good mood right now."

Ohhh, so you can still continue. Yes! That's how it should b..."

But before Rephidim could finish his sentence, the ground below him has torn apart on space-time level, leaving nothing but an empty crater where anyone who jumped in would suffer a free fall all the way into the planet's core.

"What the...!?"

But he was an accursed one. He could very much just kick the air and get out of this situation. Not just the air, but any kind of substance, including the vacuum of space. However, much to his surprise, he could not do it. This was because there was nothing he could jump from, literally, which Walkure made sure of doing, with nothing but her will. Not even space remained. However, given the nature of Rephidim, he would just ignore this effect upon himself...but Walkure knew this, and that's why she only did it toward everything but him, resulting in his body essentially suffering from the free fall.

And thus, Rephidim helplessly fell into the core.
