Chapter 9 - Kro Murren: Home Of The " Dwarven Giants"

A group of big burly men, with braided beards with metal rings, and hair with colors of crimson, gold, and silver on their faces. Brandished with axes and armor-plated like the scales of a dragon, with feet wider than Cloette's arm.

Shields that looked like a studded discus with iron bolts surrounding the wooden interior as a shell to withstand forces that would make a person's bones break with one hit when it's used as a close-ranged weapon. They were wide and tall, like mountains of hair that made a stop at their heads.

One of them lowered themselves to and waved at them both, guiding them inside to be sat by the hearth. Another person was that of a burly woman with golden curly hair that would engrossed with a wreath like a tiara on her head.

She also has a beard that's embellished with flowers that were of white and purple petals. The odor in the establishment smelled of sweat, fire, meals, and stale ale.

The woman rushed over with blankets and talked to Annette in a distinct language. Annette was ecstatic to see the woman and hugged her close.

"It has been too long mi amiga!" she said with a squeal.

The woman hugged Annette and lifted her off the floor slightly and then let go. She laughed wholeheartedly and patted on her small friend's back.

Annette took a breather and chuckled at the warm welcome from her old companion. Annette gathered her composure and shook the giant stout woman's hand.

She said, "Thank you, Hanna, for accepting us into your inn. We have recently been on the run since they found us out. I had to ensure mi hija was safe and sound. Only you came to mind since Samuel's disappearance."

Cloette noticed the other giants were looking at both of them. She had barely spoken a word since they arrived at this inn.

It still wrapped her head in bandages when a young boy approached her. He looked no older than a small child, with an ill-fitted shirt that became so baggy that it would've been mistaken as a short dress.

A leather belt encompassed the child's stomach with knickknacks such as a satchel, a scabbard for a knife, and a glass bottle filled with dried flowers. The boy was taller than Cloette, but she didn't interact with him.

His movement was sluggish movements it seemed like he was learning how to stand up straight for the first time. Cloette was still in about the changes in her new surroundings.

The young girl started retreating backward and bumped into a pair of huge standing logs with two outward thick branches that almost looked like footholds. Looking up at the standing logs, they were massive in her perspective.

A child her size was easily climbable. She looked up and saw that the top of these branches were padding held together by fabric and leather to protect the outer layer.

He looked down at Cloette and gave a grin with gaps between his teeth. He pointed at the logs and attempted to go forward with a slight hop.

In between the hops, Cloette looked down to the floor and saw only one leg of pant tied up into a knot like it was a tied-up like the end of a sausage ready to be cured. She accidentally poked the boy's injured leg, and the boy winced in discomfort.

Stumbling, the giant child had lost his balance and fell onto the ground. But Annette quickly noticed and summoned a pile of leaves that cushioned his fall.

The boy laughed when he fell onto the pile underneath him safely. Cloette ended up being so nervous and anxious that she jumped on top of his stomach.

Cloette yelled in response to her action, "Plep plep!!" and grinned while the boy was laughing.

Hanna laughed and continued to bring the food to the duo. She placed some dishes in smaller portions, but they were well enough for both of the smaller beings in her inn.

A slice of bread that looked like an amount of two medium loads of bread. And two smaller plates filled to the brim with meats and veggies in a stew.

The mother's and daughter's stomachs growled from the smell of the delicious food. They longed for this food for a while.

It felt like days when they were starving, especially for Cloette. The blood her mother brought froze and then lost to the gloriously intimidating mountainous tundra that they traveled from.

Cloette smelled the stew with so much glee that she was drooling from the amount of flavor that emitted from her bowl. Scents that came from the various herbs, spices, and root vegetables enveloped her senses.

When she ate the first spoonful of the stew, a rush of warmth and richness from the meat made her smile so much that she squealed. After the one bite, she hurriedly stuffed her face with enough food that her face would look like a chipmunk that filled its cheeks with walnuts.

Cloette turned her attention to the giantess and yelled, "Dis is so gut!! Dank you!! Dis is da most dewishus ding ever!"

Bits of food sprayed across the table as Cloette spoke, which made Annette smile as she grabbed her spoon and smacked the back of Cloette's hand. Cloette stopped talking and continued eating her food in silence.

"Que yo dice Cloette. No eating with your mouth open. It's rude even if it is good!" said Annette sternly.

Cloette quickly retracted and continued eating her food slowly. Enjoying every savory spoonful of broth with chunks of vegetables.

The giantess's name was Hanna, a dwarven in a stout stature that has been around the area of Murren for the last 300 years. From the country of Switzerland, where the winter months were almost consistent throughout the years, with the people living amongst the giants in coexistence.

Dwarven folk could do so by helping with clearing out avalanches and being able to build houses in between them. The giants would live in the mountains, while the humans live in the Valley of Murren.
