Cabins in the Valley varied in different sizes, with the evergreen's deep green covered with soft puffs of snow. Chimneys that were set high above their roofs spewed gentle smoke from these pillars.
Workers were leaving their homes with layers of coats made from animal pelts stuffed with wool to keep their warmth from the serene and harsh season. Some go bake bread to greet the people in the morning to wake up and start their days with their chores or to tend to their hearths.
The children would make snow forts, throwing balls of pressed snow at their friends, and playing war in a peaceful Valley. As though there was almost no evidence always a conflict between their neighbors and beyond the mountains' difficult terrain.
"Mama, why are there people throwing things at each other?" asked the young dhampir.
Cloette's face was a mess from the food she just consumed. Annette sighed and wiped her daughter's mouth. When her face was clean from its mess, she squirmed and wiggled around to make sure that she was helping her mom get every bit of her face clean.
Annette kneeled to Cloette and brushed a part of her hair behind her ear. Seeing as though there was always a chance to ensure the safety of her daughter, despite her mortality.
So much to learn about the real world that was taken from her for the safety for
"Mi hija, they are just playing. Sometimes it's fun to do that, but if others don't like it. Ask and you must learn to give them respect. Even if it hurts you, you are not them and they are not you," explained Annette in a soothing voice.
Hanna looked over at the two of them embracing each other, thinking about how to ensure their safety to escape from the human world. But she sensed another being in the room, inside the child.
The child's eyes expressed fear, anguish, and terror, which was described as being part of a war. A war that may arrive sooner than most, Hanna's curiosity overwhelmed her with using her special ability of Foresight.
Foresight has the potential to see the intentions of the soul. But also, it could foresee the future and it was empty, void, and breathtakingly isolating.
It sent a shiver up the giantess's spine and gave her the biggest case of goosebumps that she hadn't felt since the Hunters murdered her family. The giantess stood up, cleared the tables, and brought the boy up who was still in the pile of flowers.
She approached Cloette cautiously but smiled at her. A young boy approached beside Hanna,
"Here is my son, Odin, he usually doesn't have a leg. But he still helps out after the fae finishes treating him. Such a rascal." chuckled Hanna, as she noogied the top of her son's head.
The light in the room's source of warmth and sight was from the giant hearth in the center of the building. With a stone-brick tube with windows to protect it from catching fire.
It caught Cloette's eye how humongous the structure was built. She finally felt the warmth to the point she had to take off her cloak and let it dry on her chair.
She saw the embers dancing inside the tube, slow, elegant, almost like spirits were having a party at their venue. She reached her hand out to feel the warmth, but her mind's eye opened.
Streams of green, red, and blue were exiting from the child's hand. Hanna quickly noticed the magic from the other side of the inn and warned Annette of her kid's actions.
"Annette! Your kid!" yelled Hanna in a panic.
Magic eventually touched the flames. Mixtures of both elements and magic became a stream, an aurora of colors.
Animals took shape from the wispy streams, and it was revealed all over the North. Waves of colors represented emotions that were brought to the masses and were seen by figures, both human and magic.
But the magic was interrupted by a sleep dart that struck Cloette's back. She winced in pain but ended up sleeping facedown.
The inn's onlookers witnessed Cloette's ability with shock and awe. Annette looked at Hanna in fear and mercy, she tried to explain herself.
"I-I'm so sorry amiga, she just gets like this often. It... It has been difficult since Samuel was gone. We were running for a while now, they found us almost everywhere we escaped. Please tell me that usually, this is the time the lights of the Valkyrie were usually around this time?" said Annette.
Hanna quickly scooped up both of them, brought them up to the second floor, and put them into a room. Then people in the inn went back to their business without much worry.
Cloette could not understand the situation, but she did her best to read the room. In a literal room, and the metaphorical room would be her mother's face. Annette looked upset and worried about the incident that had occurred earlier.
"Mama, I'm sorry for doing something bad," Cloette said with pain in her voice as she shrunk into a ball, as a way to hide herself.
The black blood came out as an aura from her body, viscous and malleable, it encompassed Cloette into a black egg. The black egg became a defense mechanism so that Cloette could think about the actions she had taken.
But it also acted as a prison, for her to dwell in her shame. She began whimpering and sniffling when her mom hugged the egg close.
Annette kissed the eggshell gently on the surface for reassurance. The pseudo-shell trembled and melted away to reveal a calm Cloette, being safe with her mother alongside her.
Hanna looked over as she exited the door, "Please, my friend, she must be hidden from now on. It may hurt her, but she needs to be contained to prevent bloodshed."
As Hannah closed the door, a silver glow was seen from the cracks of the room, emitted with a presence of intensity. Which was followed by screeches, creaking wood, and flashes of colors.
