Chapter 20 - Snake

Finding that the descriptions on the skill seemed scrambled, and much different than Ava would usually do. It seemed like whenever he looked at the characters they would shift and change. Deciding that this was something that he probably didn't want to learn about, and decided to be happy with knowing that his negative effects get removed.

Deciding to close the book, he heard Ava's voice again, [Just letting you know, now that I am in my book form, you will actually have to carry me sadly. Even though I will still be connected to you, and I am indestructible, If you lose the book you will lose your ability to use the system. You will be able to use your link to locate me, but it the distance is far enough away I won't be able to help you.]

Curious with what Ava actually did for him he decided to push for more information, "What do you actually do? Since I haven't seen you do things besides give me tasks."

The voice of Ava rang out slightly worried [Currently, I have limited uses because something is blocking my main powers, but I am making sure you survive. If a fate chain that would see your death, I am able to slightly block it if it is further into the future… Even though it doesn't look like much, you did find this cave empty right? When you got to this world, I found that this place was going to be a huge disaster for you, so I pushed fate to take care of that creature…]

Surprised by the power of his new little book, he asked "Is it true that you cleared the area? Are you actually useful instead of just teasing me?"

Happy with his new tone, Ava followed up with, [So you finally realize how great I am, Thankfully as a malevolent system as I will now tell you that you might want to do your [Survival] quest, It is important to do. If you don't complete it, you will very much face a bad fate. Now, put me in your backpack and head out! On your grand adventure]

Finding Ava's comment amusing he chuckled, he stowed his new little journal inside of his backpack, which was getting a little bit weary down after all of his forest adventure, and headed out.

After he exited the cave and looked toward the coming night, he realized that he should probably get his cave fixed up before venturing out in the morning as unlike the forest with its fog that illuminates it at all hours. There was no fog here, and with the sun setting in the distance, and there trees casting their shadows, creating a wondrous scene.

Then Lucras spent the next about hour talking to Ava about life and how life was. While he was out he also collecting some leaves and branches to make some rudimentary bedding, before going back to his cave.

Settling down, he tried to sleep, and decided to write in his [Story Notes] before, with the help of Ava, went to sleep.

Waking up again from what seemed like a long sleep, due to him artificially going to sleep. After getting out of his warm leaf blanket and quickly ate some of the few remaining berries he had. Standing up, he exited the cave at morning sunrise, and to his surprise there the grass had morning dew on it, which was strange because he didn't think it was that cold.

Today he decided to fight a monster, he had 97 more to finish in about 21 days to finish it. Venturing into the forest in between the mountains with his sword out. Stepping through the forest brush, he searched though for something interesting. But his enthusiasm died down after searching. And searching. And searching. To non avail because no matter how much he searched, everything seemed to have vanished.

After a long while he finally found his first monster in this new environment. That monster was a blood red snake which was thicker than a soccer ball, but it seemed to be stuck with a tree on top of its tail. The snake saw him and was surprised by the fact that something new had appeared before the snake. But immediately afterward, its stomach finally made its presence known as the red snake went into a hunger filled rage.

Lucras, frightened, moved away from the angry snake since he had seen magic powers from both the bear and the lizard. And thankfully he did, since its body light up, and a fiery vine extended out of its mouth towards him. Hiding behind the giant trees of this forest, Lucras successfully blocked the fiery magic of the crimson snake.

But before he could even make a plan, he felt heat close to his back, and instinctively jumped to the side and noticed that it was the fire string that was after him. It seemed to be able to track him as it quickly turned and lunged towards him. While deciding what to do, a bored voice rang out from his bag, [The ghost is awake, and he can help you with seeing the mana that spell has, and what spell it is now…. Also try hitting it with something, that will probably end the spell]

Happy that Ava helped he quietly thanked her before he continued dodging. Eventually he found a nice stone and when the fire string came close enough, he threw it at this annoying spell. The immediate reaction to being hit with a rock was a huge magical explosion, that would have burned him if he was any closer.

Lucras then quickly looked and inspected the snake monster.

Surprised by the fact that this snake has so much up its sleeve, Lucras decided to air caution and quickly ran through the trees until he arrived behind the snake. Some might not be able to appreciate the size of this broken tree, but Lucras could comfortably hide behind it. Preparing himself for another close combat experience with another monster, he tried to repeat his strategy with the lizard. Grabbing some stones in his left hand, he climbed over the broken tree only to find the snake looking directly at him.

The slight surprise didn't stop him from at least trying his plan, so before the snake could light up again, he dashed forward while dropping the stones. It was the snake's turn to be surprised since it thought its little prey would run away after seeing it already looking in its direction. But Lucras was different, as he dashed along the log until he reached the head. Jumping off the log, Lucras struck the head, but unfortunately for him the snake's instinct moved in and it moved its head out of the way of the blade. Seeing his plan fail, as the shock value had faded, Lucras tried to come up with a new plan before he landed on the ground.

Sadly the snake had other plans, as Lucras had passed it, it bit at his dominant arm again and took off a chunk of flesh with its serrated teeth. Immediately the thought of 'why does the snake have serrated teeth' came into Lucras's mind before immediately followed with 'Why do they always go for the good arm'.

Landing with a twist, as pain filled his arm he quickly switched hands again and dashed forward as he could see the snake lighting up again. Rushing forward the pain in his arm seemed to die down slightly as he used his left hand to slash at the creature's body.

His sword seemed to glide smoothly into the monster's body which quickly brought out a lot of blood and caused the snake to lost its concentration on its spell. So Lucras decided to follow up with more slashes, which the snake would have usually dodge but since the snake was held down by the tree, it had limited its movement.

*** GORE WARNING, the only thing important to the plot is that last sentence***

Quickly blood poured out everywhere becoming stick, and even before the snake could fire its spell, Lucras had split it in half. Organs began to spill out of the head half as it wiggled in pain, you could see its desperate fight for survival. Then the blood around the snake seemed to try and cover up the wounded area to stop more damage, and how could Lucras let that happen.

Moving his sword into the split section, he stabbed and stabbed into the organs of the snake. If one looked at his travel notebook now, they would have noticed that it was now glowing in a golden light. Something important was happening right now, as Lucras ruthlessly stabbed the dying snake. Something that would shake the world in the future.
