Ever since Oath Breaker could remember, he had lacked something.
His life wasn't a particularily sad or peculiar one, at least he had never felt that way.
He had never met any sort of father and had no memory of a mother either, he only knew what he had been told, his mother had left him at an orphanage when he was just barely a year old.
Despite the lack of parental figures in his life as the caregivers couldn't focus too much on a single child, he didn't find himself down the path of sin early, he had ended that way through nothing but luck, a twist of fate.
He had once lost his way in the nearby city and a passerby had noticed him, a lost child, it was then that Oath Breaker understood what it was that he lacked.
He was in a dire need of attention and lost children attracted attention, people were good to them.
This how it started, this is how the story goes.
Ever since then, Oath Breaker pretended to be lost often, taking upon other names that he invented, acting out to be deaf or mute as he found out that it made people even more sympathetic.
A world with such an omnipresent system allowed him to still pass off as a young child even as he grew up.
Though, his days of acting out lost children were halted when he was caught for it, he had done it so often and caused so many uproars during many of them, it had become noticeable that much more missing children supposedly roamed the streets.
To get out of the much more strict orphanage he had been locked into, he devised another plan, he had always been attentive to things around him, knowing that the director of the orphanage had a magic item allowing him to communicate with the nearby authorities, he sneaked in his office at an odd hour.
He called said authorities, using his impersonating and acting skills to mimic the voice of the director, something simple when the device wasn't even so great and modified the voice a fair bit anyways.
He reported that a lost child had been found, describing himself in hope that an actual missing child would fit his own description and there was one.
This time, it was much further than acting out under invented names, he was prepared to act as a real person and he managed to.
Even though the child in question didn't look much like him in the end, his abilities proved useful and by intercepting anything concerning this before anyone else could see it, he managed to get away and live as the son of a noble family for a little while.
His skills weren't almighty however and the members of the family not stupid, it was quickly found out that he wasn't who he said he was.
That is when the other thing he loved turned much more sadistic, Oath Breaker had always loved revealing the truth himself when he was on the verge of being found out.
Seeing the faces of the people contort in confusion and realisation was something he loved, it was mostly harmless when he acted as a person he created from nothing but now that he was in the place of a real person, whose search for had been halted because of him, the faces he saw were much more fulfilling to him.
He didn't let himself be locked up again however and repeated his acts many more times, however, since he had grown up and had been known for a while, he moved to multiple countries for the sole reason to act as missing children even then, even better when he didn't know anything about the language.
He used his real name less and less, he had started to find it unappealing and even despise it, he found it so vile, that he only used it upon revealing the truth, believing that it was even worse to have been tricked by someone of his name.
Alas, all good things have an end and when he started impersonating knights and breaking oaths, it was what marked his end.
Dieuril had been a funny knight to impersonate, his over the top personality allowed Oath Breaker to get away with most things for people dismissed it as being part of Dieuril's dramatic sense.
The oath he broke by taking the knight's place wasn't a small one however and he soon felt the wrath of the ones that had asked for this request, the gods themselves.
Never had he felt so alive as when the armor and his body melted together, in that instant he once again revealed who he really was even if the gods most likely already knew, it was cathartic, to mess with the gods, to break such an important oath.
He had gotten the attention of the gods even if only for a moment.
For an unknown amount of time, his body merged with the armor remained dead, buried under rubbles and dirt, only to be granted life once more as the seven cardinal sins were granted their titles.
In await for what to do, he kept on acting as the knight Dieuril, demonstrating his utter talent as he even managed to trick himself, it was as though Dieuril had been resurrected too.
But it was clear that it was nothing but a trick of Oath Breaker's own, demented and broken mind, still, this personality had been a strong one and had seemingly pulled in some of Dieuril's remnant too, this personality had the strength and resistance of a great knight.
If Oath Breaker managed to consume it completely, he would become much stronger! With the strength of a knight and his ability as a sin, the number of people capable of stopping him would severely decrease!
This fight within his mind was to last a while longer, for now, his body was moving in a random direction and letting out his powers all around him.
He had envied the might of the knights for so long, a might enough to get them the attention of important people, it was within his reach and through tricking his own mind, his own self, he might be able to become so much more!
Indeed, everyone would soon look up to him! He would be the center of their attention! Not by acting or impersonating but by being himself!
'By being- By being-' Oath Breaker realised that the name he despised had vanished from his mind.
'...'
'By being Oath Breaker' he thought instead, he was Oath Breaker, that was his name.
